  1. I have a whole novel I would like to write soon, but don't have the time at the moment. So, as breifly as possible I would do this for 2013: Rotation: Gallardo Fiers Rogers Peralta Burgos Pen: Estrada Axford Henderson Sanchez Kintzler Stetter Pena (Would not spend money on Marcum, Loe, etc. Thornburg will be first option to join the roatation, but still needs some fine-tuning. Moreso than Rogers, Peralta, and Burgos at least) Aoki (RF/CF) Lucroy © Braun (LF) Ramirez (3B) Although I would try to move him in the off-season Hart (1B) Would try to trade him if I can't trade ARam Weeks (2B) Segura (SS) Maybe not on opening day, too early to tell Gomez (CF) Bench: Gamel (1B,3B,RF) Maldonado © Khris Davis, Schaefer, or Gindl (OF) Open competition in Spring Training. Backup SS 5th guy on bench, open
  2. Put me down in the group that says none of us has any idea if Kranitz is a good pitching coach or not. The only evidence is individual pitcher's results this season vs past seasons. And that analysis is so incredibly flawed. How do you calculate what percentage of effect a pitching coach has on performance for each individual pitcher? You can't, so I won't spend the time. I will throw this out there though. The Brewers are about to popualte the rotation and bullpen with guys that have been in the system. If there is a manager, pitching coach, roving pitching instructor...anyone these young pitchers really respect and say they learned from, wouldn't that person (if he exists) make sense to be the pitching coach moving forward?
  3. I don't mind it. McClendon's last stand. He's had a couple chances. Let's take a longer look, either he's good or he's not. Just one more guy to take a look at and see if he could fit in next year. I want to see a parade of guys coming through these last two months, this is just one more trial by fire.
  4. I do think it begs the question "Why have a bullpen coach?" Seems nobody knows for sure what this person does. May or may not review scouting reports? Seems like that's wat the pitching coach, bench coach, even RR would be involved with that for the entire pitching staff. Not sure why the bullpen would be separated from the starters for those discussions. If I remember right, there never was such a thing as a bullpen coach. Now we have one "just because?" Anyone can answer the phone, you don't need a "coach" to do that. A bit OT, but I have also noticed a lot of fatballs down the midle on 0-2 counts. Sure, sometimes it may be a case of a pitcher missing a spot. But most of the time, it looks like they're trying. Maybe the old "sneal one by them" I don't know. Why even throw a fastball 0-2? And this isn't limited to relievers, Estrada has done it a lot as a starter.
  5. I'll reserve my full wrath until 8/1. Maybe Melvin is trying to trade them, as slim as those chances are right now. If Krod and Veras are still on the roster Wed, let the rants begin. Kyles getting fired is symbolic. Want to send a message? DFA Veras and KRod, and send Axford to Nashville. Not only is that sending a message, it's best for the team. Ax needs to work on his curve, or come up with a slider or change-up. His straight fastball isn't enough.
  6. Really warming to that idea. Yo is the only guy who wouldnt be taking a big jump im innings this yr, incl Estrada, if they stay with the current rotation. Go to 6, in some sort of combo paco lists above.
  7. Lucroy at 2B??? Whoa. I'm not saying Lucroy couldn't ever be moved to 1B or corner OF, but it would be item #873 on my list of things to consider for 2013-2014.
  8. Who do you think comes up? Stetter? Kintzler?
  9. Any reason Brzun cant be moved to RF? He has a good arm. Heck Aoki is playing RF this year, and possibly next. He doesnt exactly have a cannon.
  10. Rickie Weeks with less power and better contact. Does that include Ricky Weeks-esque defense too?
  11. I think those were my exact words last time I went to the Old Country Buffet. Hey...we may be on to something. If Melvin does a deal like that, he will forever be called Doug "Golden Corral" Melvin.
  12. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-heyman/19670353/white-sox-trying-hard-for-greinke-they-can-do-a-deal----if-theyll-give-up-big-leaguer I hate you Jon Heyman. Makes so much sense, it's terrifying. Melvin seems hell-bent on getting "MLB ready pitching" in return. For the life of me, I don't know why he would rather have another mediocre pitcher instead of a true top prospect at any position.
  13. If it's going to be one only one more rookie, I rather see Burgos than Rogers or Peralta. I don't know what the plan is for Rogers this year, but I don't imagine he has a lot of innings left. Peralta has been up and down, and may benefit from jsut staying clear of MLB until Spring Training.
  14. Loe will be around $3MM, so no thanks. Veras has never been that good, so I don't understand what we're really expecting out of him. Ditto for Parra. Yes, they both have electirc stuff every once in a while, just neveranywhere close to be consistent enough to be effective.
  15. I like the 6 man rotation idea. Marcum tired at the end of last season, now coming back from injury this season. Keeping innings off Gallardo's arm in a meaningless seson makes sense. Plus Fiers will throw a ton of innings this year at this pace. So how about: Gallardo Marcum Fiers Estrada Burgos/Peralta (August) Rogers/Thornburg (September) This way, the four young goung guys know they'll pitch for one month. They don't have to get bothered by one guy getting a shot, and they don't. Or wonder why they're sent down after 4 starts. Set it in stone in advance, so all 4 guys know what the plan is. All four get a strong look. Any problem you can foresee with this approach? I see it as a chance to get 4-5 starts from each of these 4 guys.
  16. Yea, what they didn't like is that Henderson wasn't in the master plan. Doug and RR have a hard time adjusting when a player at the MLB or MiLB level is severaly underforming or overperforming.
  17. Meh, who needs a guy out of the pen who can paint the corners with a 95-97 MPH fastball. I can see why Melvin stuck with KRod, Veras, and all the other assorted trash. Hard to dump guys and have to eat the salary. I get that. But there's no resaon Henderson couldn't have been brought up a couple months ago. And moving forward, there's no excuse not to bring up Stetter, Sanchez, and Kintzler. Or anyone else not named Loe, Veras, or Krod.
  18. That plan for Gamel sounds about right. Then with injuries, poor performance, etc. it may take care of itself and he'll work his way into being a full time player at one of those positions. As for Green, no way he gets 2 or 3 starts a week at 2B with Weeks there.
  19. well, we are losing the worst team in the division, so its not going to be AS terrible as it has in the past... This year's Reds are last year's Brewers I don't think so. I can't imagine Chapman falling off like Axford did. Votto/Bruce won't be broken up like Fielder/Braun was. They have young starting pitching, for the most part, not 4 guys who have expiring contracts. Obviously they can get hit with a rash of injuries like anyone else, but barring that they should be tough to deal with for the next few years.
  20. You haven't seen Gamel's name because I think we all realize he doesn't have any trade value at this time, and there's really no reason to cut him since he has a minimal salary. I think his fate has a lot to do with what happens to Hart/ARam between now and Spring Training, and who they get back out of the Greinke trade. He may need to find his 3B glove again, or even his OF glove. Any way you slice it, he won't be given a starting job like he was this year. Frankly, I would like to see Hunter Morris get a long look at 1B in Spring Training. So Gamel would have to compete with Hart (maybe) and Morris there. At 3B he competes with Green and ARam (maybe.) In RF he has Aoki. So it will be interesting to watch. But I still believe he can be a very good hitter, he just may not have the chance to prove it.
  21. Agreed Monty, but they could keep Hart next year and deal him at the trade deadline. IMHO, that's the best of both worlds. Now if they happen to get a great offer for him in the next couple days, fine deal him. Even in a rebuilding year, it scares me to take both ARam and Hart out of an already mediocre line-up.
  22. Ok. Still sounds like semantics to me. Blow up the bullpen. Blow up the rotation. Blow up the bench. Willing to blow up any combination of Weeks/Hart/ARam. I don't diagree with any of that by the way, just don't be afraid to call it that- it's ok. Just like ripping a band-aid off.
  23. I'll reserve judgement on Bianchi until 8/1. Maybe Izturis or Ransom get traded. Other teams like gritty veterans too, backups for the stretch run. After the deadline, no reason NOT to bring Bianchi back up and DFA Izturis. For that matter, I wouldn't mind DFAing Ransom and bringing Farris or Maysonet back up. Frankly, I would rather have any of those guys as Utility IF next year over Ransom anyhow.
  24. Gotcha. Well, I'm sure you could get a reliever for him in the off-season. Not a great one, but a good one. Personally, I still think he's more valuable over the next several years than a reliever who may or may not give you a decent year or two. Plenty of ways to build the bulpen for next year without having to trade Maldonado. I'm not opposed to trading anyone, including Maldy, I just don't think the return would be worth giving up a minimal salary guy prtected for the next 6 years. In fact, we need a lot more of those.
