  1. it was just last year, I believe. Yes, but I'm talking about his slump post all star break this year.
  2. Wow, let's take a step back for a moment. I'm shocked that more than one person here has no problem with a MLB player publicly flipping the bird during a game. Do you REALLY feel that way, seriously? (I'm not saying Morgan did that last night, I'm just responding to those who are saying they don't care if he did, or would do that in the future.)
  3. Corey Hart seems to be in a slump since the All-Star break, and I don't remember seeing him in the HR derby. I just don't believe there's any correlation whatsoever between participating in the All Star game/ HR derby and poor performance afterwards. Lots of players have been hot afterwards, lots have struggled. That's baseball. Keep in mind, players have a HR derby every day during batting practice.
  4. We could see the Brewers, either by plan or by circumstances, move more towards better defense and higher OBP vs higher slugging. They'll still have pop with Braun, Weeks, and to some degree with Hart and Gamel. But if guys like Green, Gindl, Komatsu, Davis, etc. end up on the roster, they will have a little different look to them. Not good or bad necessarily, just different.
  5. The truth is somewhere in the middle. We're simply seeing him get back to his career norm, which isn't great but definitely an improvement over the first half of the year. If he hits close to this the rest of the year, I'll be fine with it. He is far from the worst starting position player in MLB, just look at the starting line-up for virtually every team the brewers play, and there's one or two guys with horrific numbers. Look no further than Yuni's counterpart in this series. Better defensive SS, sure, but Yuni is a better hitter hands down. When he's the 8th best hitter in the line-up, they're fine. Problem is, he's the 7th best hitter. McGehee is a much bigger problem.
  6. You don't use him in every situation he is available because then at some point in time he isn't going to be available. Like I said. I don't think its a terrible situation to use him in. I just think you let Shaun start the inning and if anyone gets on base you bring him in. No need to burn him with Marcum cruising when who knows when we are going to need him next. We don't know what the long term plan is. They may ride the k-rod/axford duo for a couple of weeks. Rest everyone else until August. At that point maybe he starts letting the starters go deeper. Like I said if they keep pitching like this it is hard not to save everyone else at the expense of two guys. It is a good problem to have to say the least because it means they are all pitching well. Two factors that make me believe Marcum should have been pulled, while I felt strongly Narvy should have been kept in: 1) KRod/Ax didn't pitch yesterday and have Monday off. So they should be fresh over the next few days. 2) Narvy was cruising more than Marcum, who was giving up a lot of fly balls the last couple innings, including a HR and near HR.
  7. Let's get one more....6-5 trip would be outstanding after an 0-2 start.
  8. Very satisfying win, didn't expect a win at all tonight!
  9. Joined late, but I see a bit of debate about pulling Marcum? I can't defend this, other than my feel for the games but i would have pulled Marcum too, but kept Narvy in the other night.
  10. Reverse jinx attempt... Ax is due to blow a save.
  11. There's pressure just standing at the plate facing a pitcher. Whether it's Little League, AAA, or MLB. But some guys thrive under pressure, and you will never know until you try. Plus, the longer you wait there WILL be more pressure as the pennant race heats up. That's why this should be done now (a month ago really.) Let him get a bunch of starts under his belt before things really heat up in September.
  12. Or, worst case is you just bring Casey back...and you're back to where you started.
  13. I think the far sections Terrace Reserve are a tough sell for any opponent in the middle of the week. Even in the middle of summer.
  14. That sucked. It's 2011 and they can't have a web site that works? Edit. No offense Yuku
  15. I don't see any signs of Casey turning it around. So he has a few hits up the middle? Why? Pitchers are willing to groove a fastball if they get behind in the count. Even at that, he's still missing a ton of them. I just see a lot of guessing and uncertainty up there. How many times has he taken a called 3rd strike just because he's hoping it's a ball? If they sent him down a month ago, he may have straightened himself out by now. No way to ever prove/disprove it, but who knows?
  16. Not sure how these trades work in theory or in "the real world" but couldn't DM pull back Green even if he was on the list? I don't think the list is any kind of official document or anything, but I could be wrong. But yea, if Green is part of the KRod deal, then that changes my opinion of the deal. At this point it really is a mockery. Not in blue, would Green not even be considered as an option if he was OPSing 1.000? I understand he wasn't in their plans whatsoever to start the year. I doubt he was in any of our plans either. But things change. Like having a 3B who's "hot streak" consists of 9/32...ALL SINGLES. And Green's stock went up. He always has been one of those guys who had the potential to be a MLB starter, and now he's putting it all together. Just seems like we're seeing a case of what I call paralysis by analysis.
  17. I would say "possibly" = "let's see hom Carroll does." Which is the right way to play this. Much like the 3B situation, why trade away talent when you may have the answer in house?
  18. This is the part of the opposing argument that makes no sense to me. How could Narveson "blow up" in the 8th? You don't even give him the chance. If he lets a runner get on, you can always pull him. Especially with a LH hitter leading of the 8th, if anything is a no-brainer it's letting Narvy at least start the 8th. Again, this is lazy managing in my opinion. If you were watching, you could see Narvy cruising. All his pitches were working. He dominated the 7th. Oh...he "might" blow up because he has before. Well, KRod has blown up before too. No matter how good the reliever is, you have a known quantity (Narvy dominating) vs. and unknown quantiry (any reliever on any given night.) And lets not pretend KRod is lights out. That's not fair to him, and his numbers say otherwise. He is good. He is a nimprovent over Loe in the 8th, and probably better than Saito. But he's not lights out. If ever there was a night to stretch a starter further, last night was it. Otherwise we'll never have a starter going past 6-7 innings, and that's not a good thing. It helps to have a SP go 8 or 9 occasionally to save wear and tear on the back end of the bullpen. Finally, I don't think it's fair to many of us here to say we find things to pick on after something goes wrong. I'm on record in the game day thread questioning the move as soon as they came back from commerical break to show KRod on the mound.
  19. Taking Narveson out after 7 was classic RR. To be fair to him, it's a move most MLB managers would have made, but that doesn't make it right. In a "normal" Narvy start it would have been the right move. But in this game, Narvy was cruising and coming off perhaps his best inning all night. A good manager realizes when something outside the norm is happening, and you adjust your typical approach. At the very least, you let Narvy pitch to the LH hitter starting off the inning. I'm not sure how that's even debatable the way he was pitching. Then you can bring in KRod. Personally, I would have had him warming up and try to get Narvy throught the 8th. Heck, if he had another strong inning and pitch count was around 100, I would give hima shot to finish the game. All we ever hear is how starting pitchers need to go deeper into games. Well that won't happen if they're never given a chance to extend their outings. I just fear that RR is going to overuse his new toy (KRod.) While he's an improvement over Loe, it's not like he's so dominant you have to find ways to get him on the mound.
  20. At least Gomez went out in style, that one catch was huge in helping to win another game. Hoping he can come back for the playoff roster. Even if he's not 100%, his legs should be. And having him on the playoff roster soley for pinch running would help. As far as Carroll goes, I don't know the plan. If the platoon continues though I fear he'll be put in the #2 spot. If he does start vs LHP, Lucroy better be elevated to the #2 spot in the lineup.
  21. Its that kind of analysis you just cant get anywhere, other than bf.net
  22. hahaha there's the license plate. Nice work. 4-3 roady and back in first.
