  1. Glad to see Hammond do well tonight, 1 ER in 6 IP. I really enjoyed watching his rise thru the system last year. Hopefully he has a great 2nd half and works his way to Nashville next year.
  2. Good calls Hauser. I don't which I'm more tired of reading: Mench can't play - he can, and has 4+ decent years in the bigs to show he can - or that Rottino can play - who has barely given a little indication he can.
  3. Wow what a throw by Bocachica. Theriot was out by 10 feet.
  4. Not. DP keeps the no hitter intact.
  5. I agree with kilgore. We have a solid staff for the grind of 162 games, but other than Sheets, there is no one that just makes you think we can go in and win a playoff game. Suppan has shown to be tougher than nails when the lights turn up in intensity, but another above average arm would be important for going after a series win. It would cost you Mench and Bush plus a nugget like Parra, but that's what you do when you have a deep system and a shot for going for the grapes.
  6. Interesting. You don't think Gillespie qualifies as a "nugget" that some other GM might want to mine?
  7. Brae Wright touched for 4 in the 1st and the Power doesn't even blink, now 4-3. That Brewer is really starting to be a hitter.
  8. That's OK for Mercedes. He's only 20, and the time in WV, while not impressive stat-wise, has to help in his personal growth. He had a passable 18 walks in 40 innings, but he did not miss alot of bats(opponents hit .313). If he's even average at Helena it should be encouraging, but I suspect he's going to do quite well.
  9. Nice. He shows the promise that a #1 pick should. Now if we will allow him to grow at his pace, not our(impatient) pace, he should be fine.
  10. NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Braddock leaves the game injured in the bottom of the 3rd. Not good. No news yet as to what it is.
  11. John Alonso with a jack jackety jack. Steve Chapman with a spectacular diving catch, Braddock dealing............business as usual for the Power. It's the uniforms - superman suits.
  12. I agree with pogokat. The reason Caufield was drafted as a 4th year college senior and in a late round to boot, was his strikeout rate. Whether it was plate discipline or a hole in his swing it doesn't really matter. So comparing him to Brewer is apples and oranges. 2 players at completely different stages in development. That being said, give Caufield a lot of credit. He seems to be putting in the work to improve his game. This guy will be earning (the hard way) everything he attains. I know I'm rooting for the guy.
  13. Good for Caleb Gindl. That's a pretty nice compliment to start at Helena.
  14. Also note that there are teams in the league with Helena that still just send their HS kids there. That's one of the reasons Helena seems to contend every year and many of us don't get overly excited when we have a college kid come in and tears things up a bit.
  15. Job Jumping use to be a stigma, now it's almost expected. That company will not be loyal to you in less time it takes to draw a single breath. Don't worry about it at all. Loyalty to a company cost me big time.
  16. What league are they in?
  17. What's up with Fermaint and Ford? They trade spots, but the spot they assume remains the same. Fermaint can't make an out and Ford can't buy a hit....... It's the Power uniform......... Jeffress with another fine outing. Way cool.
  18. Wendte may be older for this league, but he had 2 scoreless innings in the midst of all the carnage tonight. Results like this have to count towards something.
  19. Thanks for the scouting report Kat. Green is still only 20, so plenty of time for polish. 2 Jacks for Bouchie, including a grand Slam. 40 hits total already in tonights game, now going to the 9th. Hickory has scored 10 runs and is only down by 14. They're going to really need those rally caps in the 9th.
  20. I agree. Same as Vargas or Bush. Plus this guy is 30 years old, 5th yr in the bigs. I just don't see this guy bringing back a solid closer or 8th inning type guy.
  21. Welcome back Charlie Fermaint. I don't know what planet you've been on these past couple of months, but reaching base 5 times in the first 5 innings tonight (4 hits) means you've decided to join us back on Planet Earth once again. Get it squared away and go back to being the rising young star we all think you can be.
  22. Taylor Green I believe was a DFE in 2005 who played SS at a JUCO. He was drafted as a 2b and played 2b last year in Helena. This may be the first time he played 3B as a regular, so those 8 errors on minor league surfaces should not really worry us at all, in fact it's almost encouraging.
  23. I was listening to XM the other day and they had the Tiger's MLB corrspondent on. He was stating that Mike Maroth would be dealt as early as this week for a solid relief pitcher like Gagne. Please help me out here. This sounds like a typical blog rumor..... You know - hey - we'll trade you some guy who we don't need anymore for one of your good guys - OK? His reasoning was Texas really needs starters and because they don't win much they shouldn't need a closer so it must be a good deal. Is Maroth better than I'm giving him credit for? Or is he just at best a # 4 or #5 starter? Is this writer out to lunch, or does some of this make sense?
  24. I started the theory other night. It's the uniforms. Anybody can put on a Power uniform and instantly be transformed into Superman. That box score is just sick. 'Tees with a tenuous lead late.
  25. I'll be in Kansas City Tuesday and I think I'm headed to the Truman library just a minute or 4 east of KC. It's either that or the negro leauges museum is right in that area too.
