  1. Burn it to the ground and move.
  2. Not sure why they waited this long.
  3. So five pages later and the best idea is what we usually land on with these pace of play threads. Enforce the rules already in place.
  4. On the flip side you might get more for a guy if he pans out at the MLB level.
  5. Now they have payroll room. As the prospects mature they will cost more. Much like things went with our last round of talent. As the talent aged it got more expensive. $2m here, $3m there adds up fast.
  6. I thought teams that built new stadiums were the ones that benefited.
  7. Is the pitcher pushing the time in that case or is the network pushing a commercial and the pitcher waiting?
  8. Where is the issue with any of that? The pace of the game changes when guys are on base. Making any changes could severely hamper things for the defense. Edit: Unless you want to make it so no one can steal bases. Actually let's go with that. If pitchers don't have to go into the stretch or worry about guys stealing then that would speed up the pace of play.
  9. You have to understand that Briggs does not really believe in the rebuild. He wants to win every year so his point of view will be to give up the long term health of the franchise for short term gains even if they are minimal.
  10. One would hope so but we have had this information for a while and still nothing.
  11. I would start by talking to your internet company. There may be problems with the line. If you want a modem recommendation you would have to specify if you have cable or DSL internet. You could also just have Ethernet ports to your wall which means you wouldn't need a modem, just a router.
  12. Maybe. Pitchers flame out a an extremely high rate so I guess it is good to have a lot.
  13. Something like a 4 -0 series sweep where they lose every game by double digit runs?
  14. Yeah a Cubs loss is all that matters.
  15. There are fair strike zones and unfair strike zones. The worst part is the unfair strike ones seem to be with the really touchy umps like Joe West who is a total douche.
  16. Walk off series winning balk.
  17. ummm, how is that different than the Brewers? We are not lovable losers.
  18. If it was football the records would range from 10 - 6 and 6 - 10. In a normal year it would range from 9 - 7 to 7 - 9.
  19. Where does Arcia play?
  20. I care more about every fan getting a bobble than I do about making a secondary market for them.
  21. The advantage would come from being able to keep our own players for a couple more years here and there. You can't build through free agency even in the NFL.
  22. Yeah a hard cap is not a good idea unless you are going to share all tv revenue equally. All a hard cap would do is screw the players out of money. These negotiations always come down to large vs small market teams.
  23. I don't see getting Casey Gillaspie as a win now move. Considering he is 23 and has no major league experience, he's a prospect on the cusp of beginning his major league career. I don't know much about him as a prospect/player, but if he is someone Stearn likes, he's a perfect candidate to get (i.e. Villar last year). Become a solid contributor at 1B for the next ~6 years, possibly break out and be a star, or settle in as a cheap solid contributor until we are ready to move him or replace him. We could also stick him in the minors for another year as he has only been in AAA for half a season and bring him up mid-season or next year with our first big wave of prospects. Now what would it take to get him? No idea but if all we have to give up is a Cy Sneed equivalent (Yamamoto), fallen prospect (Coulter/Taylor) or a redundant major league piece (Torres/Anderson), I'm all for that. Honestly I posted without even bothering to read the post. I took a chance and figured anything Briggs posted would be trading high upside guys to win now. If we could get him for free I would be ok with it but I would think we might have to give up something of value.
  24. I don't think that trade would be a good idea. We can't give up young guys to try and compete now. The goal is to build a winning team long term and not ransom the franchise for short term gains like we have done in the past.
  25. I think the hood is what makes it look casual.
