  1. Hopefully not another one of Braun's yearly oblique/back injuries.
  2. Team is obviously depressed about losing Gamel for the year.
  3. I am not as concerned with missed calls quite as much as overaggressive umpires. Bad calls will happen but there is no need to compound the problem by being a dick about it. I have to think the union is strong if a guy like Joe West is still employed. Having an extra guy in the booth looking over things would help tremendously and I doubt would slow the game much if at all.
  4. I just wanted to reassert that I really really don't like Mark Kotsay.
  5. It is no longer "early on" for Gomez. He has over 1700 Major league PA and has shown no sustained improvement since he got to the majors. Nothing more than a good week here or there which every player has.
  6. I doubt Gamel "figuring it out" really had anything to do with picking up McGehee. He was picked up after the 2008 season to be a backup infielder. Gamel had just finished a full season of AA. Unless you expected Gamel to move up as fast as Braun did there is no reason to expect him at 3B until the middle of 2009. The organization overestimated what they had in McGehee.
  7. Yeah kind of destroying AAA pitching. .353/.415/.661/1.076 Baseball Reference is my go to for MiLB stats. They don't have splits though. Splits for minor league stats are hard to come by.
  8. The Brewers have given up quite a few runs. You see all kinds of goofy stuff even a month into the season.
  9. Almost completely ignore it for pitchers. Look at wOBA then WAR for position players. While looking at WAR consider PA(since WAR is a counting stat) and look at just the defensive portion of WAR compared to other years to gauge how confident I would be that their defense is properly reflected in their WAR. I think it does a pretty good job of measuring a player's contribution in previous years but needs a lot of tweaking if you are trying to guess at WAR for consequent years.
  10. I don't think it is a big leap at all. He said that Gamel told him he was fine and he was sure that he was fine. He didn't start him because he had a couple bad days.
  11. So anytime Gamel has a bad couple days at the plate Ishikawa will start?
  12. Still looks as dumb as it did when the lineups were posted. At the very least DPR could have put him towards the bottom of the order.
  13. Even if starting Gomez against a RHP is a good idea, and it isn't, he should be hitting way at the bottom of the order. He is not a good hitter. Yes, Morgan is that much better at hitting RHP that it more than makes up for the difference in defense. Morgan is a better than average defender.
  14. I would say that Gomez shouldn't face pitching unless the other CF is almost as bad at hitting as Gomez or below average in CF.
  15. McGehee wasn't necessarily due for a bounce back. He only had a little over one and a half good years in the majors. His AAA stats while not poor but definitely did not point to him hitting as well as he did. They pointed more towards a low to mid .700 OPS guy not a .800+ OPS guy. He has a MLB career line of .328/.421/.749 line against LHP. I would rather have Hairston/Green+Veras then either McGehee/Green or Ramirez+Veras.
  16. but sadly par for him. He played Kotsay plenty with better options behind him. He kept McGehee almost all of last year when he could have gone to Doug and said, "Hey, Casey is stinking up the joint, how about we give that Green kid who is raking in AAA a shot at 3B."
  17. Problem is we already have a few left handed bats off the bench. Izturis is pretty bad and should never really PH but it isn't like there are decent options for SS in AAA either. Conrad for Ishikawa would make for a better bench. If Izturis couldn't play SS he would be completely useless. Yeah the pen has looked pretty bad lately bad but Veras, K-Rod and Axford are all pretty decent relievers. Not really a fan of Dillard but bringing up Peralta to start and moving Estrada back to the pen would give us 4 decent relievers with Parra as a LOOGY and Loe used so he doesn't face really good left handed bats and we would have a really good pen.
  18. Same reason he should never have been kept in the first place. 2 games is a horrible way to judge a player. He is still the same guy he was at the start of the season.
  19. Poor roster construction rears its head again today as Izturis see a PH opportunity yet again. seriously, cut Ishikawa and bring back Conrad.
  20. I doubt it. The brewers were pretty enamored with McGehee.
  21. I think that's going a little far. I can't imagine Gamel NOT being sore after a collision like that. I haven't seen anywhere that Gamel said he should've/could've played. He's giving a guy that's a little banged up a day or two off to heal up. Simple as that. He probably could have played. This is one of those things that could go either way depending on what you think of the manager. I believe if Gamel was a star or the manager liked Ishikawa a little less, I believe Gamel would have played. No strong reason to start Gamel but really little reason not to start him. "It's just soreness," said Gamel, who is out of the lineup tonight to rest the shoulder. "It's nothing big."
  22. I dislike the manager as much as the next guy, probably more. I think he has used Ishikawa properly for the most part. The only blemish being the time he was brought in in the middle of a game for Gamel. Luckily that was an aberration not the norm. That said I don't think he is useful or should be on the roster. He isn't a power bat and only backs up 3 of the 5 guys who will probably be in the lineup almost every single day. Braun isn't coming out of a game baring injury. Hart might come out late in games for a defensive replacement but we already have 2 good defensive replacements. I guess we could pull Gamel for him against tough LHP, except he is also left handed. It would be much more useful to have another backup catcher and use Kottaras more often as a bat off the bench.
  23. It makes a ton of sense if you have the capitol and don't like contract brewing.
