  1. Colby Rasmus has a negative UZR/150 in CF this year.
  2. You would hope Cain gets the start tonight against a LHP.
  3. I was talking more about 2012 and beyond actually but I agree. We would have still had Hart next year anyway. I am more opposed to his 2012 and 2013 where 2 guys at $5-6m would give us $3-5m in savings.
  4. I would feel bad for the fans of Cray-Z's team if he was on any team other than the Cubs.
  5. You don't need a player as good as Hart either. You can sign 2 platoon guys. If Hart played better defense then it would be tougher to get a platoon to replace him.
  6. Whether or not it's intentional is open for interpretation. Bottom line in my opinion is that unless you are going to help pay your teammates wages for their suspension, you either need to protect yourself or get your union to do it. The union is preventing MLB from really cracking down on hitting players. MLB suspends a player and they get to appeal which leads to a reduced or dropped suspension. Basically a slap on the wrist. Even retaliating has questionable results in preventing further HBP.
  7. No condescension necessary. Simply put, the people in Madison who would have drank Zima in 1993 now drink Spotted Cow.... generally the type that only have a beer or two, poured in a glass of course- so they can stick their pinky in the air while they drink it. Spotted Cow is definitely the trendy brew in Madison, and it is favored by the Yuppie set and served at every 'Mover and Shaker' function. You may think that it's a decent beer, and that's your opinion. Personally, I think it tastes like watered-down Grain Belt, and that's my opinion. In my opinion, it's definitely not worthy of the hype or worthy of the price tag. Going further, it may be locally produced, but there are several local microbreweries that actually brew a more 'authentic' beer. Whatever beer you drink is your preference. There is no reason to stereotype people who drink any one kind of beer. Comments like these are what makes people call beer enthusiasts beer snobs. There is zero need to look down on people because of their beer preference.
  8. If he charged the mound he would get fined and suspended. Of course having your teammates retaliate gets them suspended, and they don't get paid when they are suspended. Fielder is getting hit at twice his normal rate but if you take out Weeks we are right in the middle of the pack on HBP.
  9. Weeks gets hit a lot. He is getting hit at a normal rate. Fielder is getting hit a little more than normal and the rest of the guys are almost never getting hit. This whole thing is way overblown.
  10. If you look at this line right now and his season line in 2008, his BA and OBP are remarkably similar, it's the slugging that is 90 points lower that is different. Braun's LHP splits are way out of line with his career or even a normal right handed hitter vs LHP. His RHP slits are all pretty similar to the rest of his career. I think it is safe to say that he hasn't hit LHP well this year for some reason or another and that is dragging his stat line down. Should we expect it to continue next year? I doubt it. He obviously will not hit LHP as well as in his rookie year but I really doubt anybody expected him to.
  11. I think Farris is doubtful. Anybody not on the 40-man roster is doubtful.
  12. Actually that's a pretty good idea. Make your union work for you.
  13. Of course there was going to be some regression but he shouldn't be hitting worse against LHP than RHP. Especially not 190 points of OPS worse.
  14. I would have put that under this thread.
  15. Gamel, Cain and Lawire are all internal RF options at a fraction of the money we will pay Hart. Also as previously mentioned, we could sign 2 players to platoon in RF. If Hart was a good defender I think the argument for keeping him would be pretty good. As it is, he is below average and we have internal options that can probably play defense as well as Hart.
  16. Corner outfielders on one year contracts are cheap and easy to find. It isn't like Hart is a special player and he is playing a position where we could easily go out and either get a bat or slide a prospect to. Let's say we keep Fielder for next year. We could have easily moved Gamel to RF next year but now Hart is already there. I really don't think we will have as much payroll flexibility as people think. I saw the same flexibility argument being made in regards to the Suppan contract.
  17. I'm sorry I don't get the connection. What does the playoffs have to do with your players getting hit in the head? Did it help the teams win more games.
  18. Innings don't have to be an issue. If one of those guys can stick as the #5 pitcher, he willl get plenty of days off. We hear that a lot but it never happens. Managers and our pitching coach in particular like to give the guys an extra day off instead of skipping guys in the rotation.
  19. Jeff Sackman had a nice summary of the Hart signing over at BCB.
  20. For me McGehee would have to show at least a couple more years of production before I would be comfortable handing him a contract of any significance. You would be wrong to give McGehee a contract. He will be 32 in his first season of free agency. We should go year to year with him. At no point should we extend him. This deal with Hart does limit our ability to upgrade our future rotations, and makes a Prince deal very important. Giving Fielder a deal would be a very bad idea. I know people think we will have a bunch of cheap players and it wouldn't hamstring our club but I was reading an old thread about Braun last night and people were saying the same thing about the Suppan deal.
  21. I think it is more of a case where fans will be more vocal when a player plays like they thought he would. The people who didn't like Hart were more vocal in the offseason and quieter now. The fans who do like Hart are more vocal now and were quieter in the offseason. I have one foot firmly planted in each camp on this one. I really like Hart but I am not happy to know we are locked into bad corner outfield defense for 3 more years.
  22. And having a kid who has thrown a season's worth of innings pitch a meaningless game in the last month seems pointless. Asking for injury. I was thinking something along similar lines. Most of our MiLB pitchers have not built up enough innings to be pitching after their MiLB season is done.
  23. Maybe he should get a day off to rest now and then. Just a thought. It isn't like he has been completely healthy over the last couple years between being hit on the elbow this year and his oblique last year.
  24. He is a bad hitter and until he proves otherwise he belongs in the bottom of the lineup. I am not shocked he struggled at all. Just like with Gomez, I don't care what his potential is. I care what he can do now.
