  1. I just assume there are many many players still using. Most are just smart enough not to get caught. I think it is foolish to think the game is "cleaned up." There is just to much money to be made by cheating.
  2. $15m isn't going to look like much in a few years. It will hurt but not much. We don't have much talent that will demand much money by 2020. The Brewers have shown they will spend money within reason if needed.
  3. Braun always had nagging core injuries. Not sure why we would expect that to improve with age. Add in his second contract covers typical decline years and it was a bad idea the day it was signed.
  4. Braun's deal isn't hurting the Brewers. Sure it sucks and we knew it would when he signed it. The Brewers are never going to be able to buy enough players to win so money isn't holding us back from competing.
  5. Parra is a one year commitment we wouldn't have to give up anything for.
  6. It wasn't just giving up that pick. It was not trading any other players in addition to signing Lohse. It was the whole direction from that point on. I really didn't mind the Garza signing. All we used was money.
  7. In baseball you are looking at probably at least 6 years before you see any real money. 3 years in the minors and 3 in the majors. If you are really good. Baseball isn't as easy of a game to pick up as football or basketball. It is much more difficult to practice with just a couple people.
  8. The manager is paid for this year and next year. Firing him won't help much. Get rid of him at the end of the season. It might appease some fans but I don't believe in doing things just to appease fans. Now is the time to start looking for a new GM but I doubt most teams are looking to trade much yet so we can wait on him for a month or two. Besides, most GM candidates we would want are probably attached to another franchise right now so we would have to wait till the offseason to hire one, and the drafting and moves of late have been good. Not as many moves as I would have liked but they were moves in the right direction. Edit: To expand on what I said. The draft last year was awesome. We brought in a good amount of high upside talent. We signed one of the best international players in Lara. We traded Gallardo for some young prospects. We traded a pitcher who we really had no use for and were frustrated with in Estrada for a 1B who has been one of the best hitters in the league against RHP over the last few years. I would have liked to see more moves like the Gallardo trade but the last year was a step in the right direction. All the bad stuff this year is an accumulation of all the bad crap that has been going on since 2011. If the franchise kept running things like they have in the very recent past, I think we would be moving in the right direction.
  9. Really? None of us knew that. But when you have one it's perfectly logical to go for it and all these things were ripping the for doing was made thinking you would have a 320/380 35 hr 110rbi guy as a center piece. Things are way different if he was still that player. Heck you could be arguing that we didn't go for it hard enough in those years instead. Going with Yuni at ss, ignoring1b the last few years etc. Yes these next years could be rough and the 06ish type era of optimism was better than this. But would you just want to be in that state at all times without ever going for it. Think kc fans are still complaining about Myers/shields right now? This attitude would have led to trading Prince before 2011 for the future, possibly by the time those guys are ready you would have traded Braun. By the time those guys are ready you'd have to trade some others. At some point you have to go for it and in the smallest market with the smallest tv deal your window will be small, if you don't like it you might as well quit following MLB because it's not changing. That or be dodgers, cubs, Yankees, or cardinals fan. Draft/develop better the last 9 years and they're not in this bad of a spot. Good post Patrick. Just because you have one good player doesn't mean you should kill the near future of a franchise. They didn't draft and develop good players so they shouldn't have gone for it at any point after 2012. The moves they made would have been the right ones if they had drafted and developed talent. As it is the moves they made spread our talent over all the levels of the majors and minors instead of creating a bubble of talent.
  10. You need more than just one Hall of Famer on your team to make it competitive.
  11. I can't really blame him for riding it out at this point. Changes do need to be made but we really can't do much until closer to midseason.
  12. The Sabathia trade wasn't horrible. We still looked good for the future at that point. Bad drafting and the Greinke/Marcum trades gutted us.
  13. I see what you are going for there. You don't want the Brewers to ever win again.
  14. http://38.media.tumblr.com/7b31dd273547dd994315d4fb7675765a/tumblr_mglfqla8RA1qzwh1uo1_500.gif Yup, this. LaRussa is a jackass.
  15. The Brewers started to lose me around the time they traded for Marcum. I didn't like the trade at the time, but it turned out ok after they traded for Greinke. The problem was they never did anything after that to improve the future. One small trade of Greinke who was never going to stay anyway. Then they brought back Yuni and gave up a pick to sign Lohse. Those were both horrible deals especially when the continued to trot Yuni out day after day. The Gallardo trade brought back some small goodwill from me but they still have a long way to go. I am not really upset about how they have fared this year so far.
  16. I am still not sold on Gomez being a sure thing. He had 2 good years.
  17. I am not sure where the Rockies were expected to be but even at the peak expectations for the Brewers we were probably not as good as either the Pirates or Cardinals and about even with the Reds. This first month has sucked but we played some really tough teams all month so far. A losing record wouldn't have been shocking. A realistic expectation would have been a few more wins so we are not to far off. Maybe 2 or 3 more wins. 5-7 vs 2-10.
  18. The only Brewer I ever booed was Fatty Helms. I don't think you should boo and my kids won't either.
  19. When did that happen? Must have been in some bizzaro world where the gold glove infield included Braun at 3B and Yuni at SS.
  20. Holy wall of text Batman. I am sure you had some good things to say but this is very difficult to read.
  21. All that money we are paying Parra is a waste.
  22. Yes you do have to pile up talent. You need it all within a short time frame not spread out over several levels of the majors and minors like we have now.
  23. If they trade Gomez and Lucroy now they should be able to get enough talent back to be good again in 3 years. the names of the players don't matter. Winning is all that matters.
  24. No they didn't. They could have just stuck with the original contract and Braun would be gone after this year. We had him through his age 31 season. The back end of his prime. Add in he had abdominal problems practically every year at that point and it was a pretty terrible idea. That is close to the back end of the prime years. It was heart of prime 10 years ago. We are just not seeing players who play as long as we did a decade ago.
