  1. I think the trade looks better in hindsight than it did at the time and only because we made the playoffs. I didn't like the trade at the time it was made and I still don't like the trade. You might see a post from TheCrew07 telling you how they should have used Lawrie to trade for a younger, cost controlled arm instead. I would agree with him.
  2. St. Louis isn't a much bigger market than the Brewers or spending a ton more. It just seems like they are.
  3. I don't think they have been reckless with money. They have been reckless with prospects. The Garza deal doesn't hurt them. The Lohse deal did and still does.
  4. But he didn't go to Mark. Mark went to him.
  5. This bugs me a lot. I hate how involved Mark A. is with the team. I don't see that changing either. On the other hand, Melvin didn't even inquire about Garza or was this a case where he didn't really think we needed starting pitching?
  6. Please quote your source. You don't think perhaps you're being a little bit intellectually dishonest here? Not really. Where did you see people talking about a payroll under $90m? I think you are thinking about the 2012 offseason. Timing is everything. If you had said the same thing this offseason you might be right.
  7. Wow, those are some smart 11 year olds. Already in college at that age. Hope is doesn't wreck their emotional development.
  8. I am not sure if he is slot worthy unless Wang can perform when it's cold. I have heard Wang loses some mojo when it's cold.
  9. I thought I heard Garza was 4 because DPR wanted a veteran starting the first game against the Sox. Put all our starters in any order. I think a strong case could be made for any of them anywhere. Put Gallardo 5th. He isn't markedly better and uses a lot of pitches to get through innings.
  10. I believe Gamel tore up his knee again.
  11. Sort of like they did last year by signing Lohse.
  12. That's only true if every draft is the same, which they aren't. This 2014 draft is shaping up to be pretty extraordinary from a pitching standpoint like 2011 was. The compensation picks are also after the first round if I remember correctly.
  13. Trout hit way better than Morris has in the minors so I am not sure how you think that is a good comparison. If Morris had hit like Trout in the minors I am sure he would have had a good shot at being the starting 1B this year.
  14. Does Wang have a curve?
  15. I think we should slot Wang in.
  16. So you think Gallardo will be looking at 4/$60m? I wouldn't hold you to that with expected inflation of player salaries.
  17. If he pitches like he did in 2008-2012 why would he sign for only $13m per. Let's assume Yo pitches like he did from 2008 - 2012 in 2014 & 2015. He would have a similar line to 2008-2012: 3.63 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 9.3 K/9 & 112 ERA+ Garza's previous 4 seasons before signing his 4 year $52 million ($13AAV) at 30 : 3.71 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 7.9 K/9 & 107 ERA+ Yo also becomes a FA at 30. Add the QO to Yo and I have to imagine Yo may go through what Jimenez and Santana went through which may open him to an extension at ~$13 million AAV. I don't see the problem with extending him if he shows he is still the pitcher he was prior to the first half of 2013 in 2014. Assuming no injuries in the next couple years for Gallardo is Garza a good comp? Garza has missed a good chunk of time the last couple years which I think drove his price down.
  18. If he pitches like he did in 2008-2012 why would he sign for only $13m per.
  19. Talk about a small sample size - that was 98 PA. 46 of those PA were after his ankle injury in Sept/Oct. The fact you cited that timeframe is astounding. Briggs has been pretty vocal in his dislike for Weeks and is good at cherry picking stats that back that up. Not a terrible OPS for a 2B either. Especially with a .346 OBP. Briggs really loves guys with a good batting average.
  20. Why not just make the rule so the catcher can't block the plate. We know that players can be injured on slides. If I was a player I would rather run into the catcher than slide into him.
  21. If I'm Cruz I accept arbitration next year.
  22. That's Mr. Toads Wild Ride. Haven't you seen Mallrats.
  23. Yup, neither.
  24. Should have grilled Monday like I did.
