  1. I got my April 6th tickets that I ordered when they went on sale, but have yet to receive my 9 game pack/parking passes.
  2. yeah, I was able to call my rep directly and he was able to get me one thankfully, but that's still pretty shocking.
  3. I just called them and was told that there are no more parking pre sale passes for opening day. This kind of upsets me considering my ticket rep told me i'd probably be OK calling a week or 2 after they went on sale.
  4. I'll be at opening day, April 29/30, May 1, September 16/17. Can't wait!
  5. speaking of Capellan and Hendrickson, does anyone know what those two are up to these days?
  6. you know what else can make a bump in payroll possible? a playoff run. While it'd be nice to be able to have Prince DH and toss LaPorta at 1B, I sure as heck will take our playoff chances in the NL Central vs the AL Central. Plus, I love the Cubs rivalry.
  7. Given Benny's well documented issues staying off the DL, is he going to merely be a type B free agent? I read a lot of things saying we should just let him play the year out and bid him farewell for high draft picks, but is it even a lock that we're going to get anything more than a sandwich pick? If that's the case and Parra is performing well in AAA, might we just be better off trading him at the deadline for more?
  8. if Bush is traded and Vargas is on this roster, we better have gotten one heck of a legit prospect for Bush. I'm an advocate of trading Vargas for peanuts and putting Parra in AAA to monitor his innings with an eye towards 2009 or in case one of our starting 5 goes down. After that, I think everything will work itself out. I just can't envision a scenario where nobody gets hurt in ST and Vargas is on this team on opening day.
  9. I guess I didn't quite type out my thoughts as clearly as they sounded in my head! I love Villy as a starter, but my concern is that they're going to use him in the pen, where he was over worked last year, which led to his bad second half. this is pretty much what I wanted to say. If Yost can avoid that with Villy this year and Cappy proves that he can overcome last year and pitch well in ST, then I think Cappy should be in the rotation to give us a lefty and to perhaps boost his trade value. A pitcher like Villanueva would be great to have as the long man/swing man, but I agree that he's among our best 5 pitchers and i'd love to see him start. I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a 2nd lefty in the pen, even if he is relatively expensive.
  10. I saw Melvin's comments about Bush having a spot in the rotation. I'm a big Dave Bush fan, but i'm kind of torn on if I want Cappy or Villanueva in the 5 spot. I think Villanueva is a better pitcher at this point, but I also think Cappy can bounce back and he'd give us a lefty in the rotation. I just don't want to get to a point where Villanueva is getting shelled again in the second half because he was over worked early on.
  11. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3237189 after what has seemed like an eternity, this deal is finally official. Good deal for both teams, especially the Orioles.
  12. the problem is, they already have decent pitching depth, and none of our remaining guys are appreciably better than what they already have.
  13. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/tom_verducci/02/05/verducci.YAE/index.html Tom Verducci also thinks that Yo is at a risk for breaking down. The name he brings up in comparisson is not one I wanted to see: Fransisco Liriano.
  14. I think some of that could probably be attributed to wearing down in the second half, but that's still great to see. I think he'll be a big time asset to guys like Suppan, Bush and Cappy.
  15. haha, I live a few blocks south of Wrigley, so i have a huge emotional investment in what these fools think. I think I just need to take a deep breath and relax and realize that we're in good shape here.
  16. Naturally, I think the Chicago media would be a little biased, but I don't think you'd see the Journal Sentinel putting out a piece like this. I agree that this still doesn't make the Mets the favorite to win anything. Even with Johan, their rotation is very shaky and their lineup has some holes in it. I think all 3 divisions are going to be very competitive this year, which should be great.
  17. That is, until the Mets got Johan. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/couch/769492,013108couchweb.article I saw some article somewhere else too that was discussing the impact the Santana trade had on the Cubs, and the general feeling was that they were impacted big time because it was a foregone conclusion that they were the team to beat in the NL. It amazes me how so many people forget that the Cubs weren't that great last year. They won, what, 85-86 games? They barely held onto the division and practically tried to give it away in the last couple of weeks and then got embarassed by Arizona in the NLDS. I'd say with the improvements we've made and with the improvements the Reds have made that they're far from a lock to win their division, let alone the NL pennant. The Brewers may as well not play the season because the NL is a two team race. Unless of course the Cubs get Bedard, then everyone may as well take their ball and go home. Sometimes the media makes me want to freak out! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  18. I don't think anyone is going to be mistaking TGJ for the 5-tool player that Gomez projects to be.
  19. would have really liked to see him stay in the AL. should make the NL East a lot more competitive though, although I still like the Phillies balance.
  20. I'm not really big on Pie, but if the Cubs get rid of him and Gallagher for 2 years of a player that is only marginally better than DeRosa, then i'm on board. I'll also echo the joy of keeping Bedard in the AL. I got really worried with the Cincy/Cubs rumors floating around. Now if we can just keep Johan in the AL, we'll be set!
  21. ^^^ be that as it may, don't you think it'd be a better idea to just go with your 5 best pitchers from the outset of the season? I'd hate to see us throw away some games in a tight division simply to boost Cappy's trade value.
  22. I love Dave Bush, but he better have an awesome spring (and Cappy too) if they're going to put Villanueva in the pen. What does he have to do to get a rotation spot???
  23. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/roll.gif If I can figure out how to do a signature, can I use this? That is hilarious! Anyways, it's good to see that DM is at least trying to do something to shore up a very suspect pen.
  24. well I can't say that i'm entirely surprised that the Rockies are getting knocked around, just the way things have been going lately. hopefully the Astros will do us a favor and go cold too!
  25. would it be completely ridiculous to put Parra into the rotation this year? He's looked very, very good in his limited action and he seems to do what a lot of our other pitchers can't: attack the strike zone. He's got to at least be in consideration for a spot next year, right?
