  1. In Progress: Arizona Brewers 3, Arizona Mariners 1, through 7.. Great pitching by Luis Ramirez and strong hitting performances from Andrew Lefave and Brent Brewer, who has been coming on strong lately. It is of course, way to early to write off a second round pick like Brewer. We all know he is raw, but he projects to have power, and he has decent plate discipline already with 11 walks in 125 ab's...not to mention 8 sb's against 0 CS...exciting stuff

  3. In Progress: Nashville 3, Sacramento (A's) 0 Laynce Nix has raised his average to .292. Absolutely unbelievable. Brewers fans can complain about the loss of Nelson Cruz, but Nashville fans probably haven't noticed a difference between Nelson and Laynce. Dana basically unhittable today. i really hop he succeeds in his next chance with the Brewers. Dana is still very young.
  4. Final: Huntsville 3, Mobile (Padres) 2 Huntsville Site Game Summary: Link, text follows -- www.huntsvillestars.com/n...newsId=954 Stars Bounce Back and Beat BayBears Brad Nelson?s two-run single highlighted a three-run fourth inning rally and Tim Dillard was superb in a long relief stint, as Huntsville hung on to down Mobile 3-2 Monday night in the fourth game of a five-game set at Hank Aaron Stadium. The Stars stopped a two-game slide, improved to 21-22 in the second half and leapt over West Tenn into third place in the North Division, three and a half games behind first-place Tennessee, which fell at home to Birmingham 5-3. Mobile dropped to 22-22 in the second half and to 6-8 against the Stars. Milwaukee relief pitcher Jose Capellan, nursing a strained shoulder, made a rehab start for the Stars and retired the BayBears in order in the first inning, striking out two and recording a ground ball out on 14 pitches. He was replaced by Dillard, making his fourth relief appearance of the season, to start the second inning. The right-hander set down the first hitter he faced before Luis Cruz belted a home run to give Mobile a 1-0 lead. The BayBears have hit a long ball in all four games of the series and have totaled six in four games. Jose Oyervidez blanked the Stars on one hit through three innings before walking Callix Crabbe and Drew Anderson and giving up a single to Ryan Braun to load the bases with one out in the fourth. Nelson, who had knocked in only four runs over 55 at-bats, singled to right field on a 1-1 offering to knock in Crabbe and Anderson to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. Ron Acuna singled to reload the bases, and push his hitting streak to a season-high eight games, before Lou Palmisano bounced into a force out at second base to score Braun to extend the lead to 3-1. Vincent Sinisi led off the fourth inning with a home run, his second of the series, to slice the Stars advantage to 3-2. The Mobile first baseman had been hitless in 11 at-bats since going deep in his first trip to the plate in the series on Friday night, while Dillard has allowed five long balls in his last three outings. The Huntsville right-hander gave up a base hit to Stephen Smitherman after the home run and then retired 14 in a row before a two-out single by Dustin Delucchi in the eighth. Sinisi struck out on three pitches to open the ninth and Smitherman followed with a line drive double to right-center field and was replaced by Brett Dowdy as a pinch-runner. Cruz lined out to right field and Dillard was taken out and replaced by Travis Phelps, who had thrown three scoreless innings to grab the win in relief Friday night. Pinch-hitter Colt Morton took a pitch at 2-2 that could have been called a strike but wasn?t, fouled off the next pitch and then went down swinging for the final out of the game. Dillard picked up his eighth win of the year and Phelps earned his second save. Jose Oyervidez fell to 4-10 after allowing three runs on five hits and five walks over six frames. He fanned seven and worked around a one-out triple by Acuna in the sixth. Geoff Jones took over in the seventh and got out of trouble after the first two hitters reached and wound up leaving the bases loaded. Paul Abraham stranded Ozzie Chavez at third with one out in the eighth, as Huntsville left 11 men on board from the fourth through eighth innings. The series concludes Tuesday night with left-hander Manny Parra making the start for the Stars against Mobile right-hander Dirk Hayhurst. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. Final: West Virginia 4, Rome (Braves) 0 West Virginia Site Game Summary: INMAN IMPRESSES IN TWO HIT SHUTOUT Will Inman tossed eight scoreless innings of two hit ball and struck out nine against the Rome Braves on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park, giving him a victory in each of his last five starts as the Power beat the Braves 4-0. Tony Festa ripped a two out RBI double in the bottom of the first inning to put the Power on top. Kenny Holmberg ripped a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it 2-0 Power. The homer was his third of the home stand and his seventh of the season. Mike Bell chipped in with a solo homerun in the sixth inning, it was his second of the home stand and his tenth of the year. The shutout was the sixth of the year for West Virginia. Inman?s eight inning performance marks the longest outing of the season for any Power pitcher. West Virginia has now won sixty games on the year, matching their win total in the 2005 season. Will Inman (9-1) got the win, and Adam Stanley (1-6) obtained the loss. The Power are 60-52 overall and 21-22 in the second half after the win while the Braves fell to 61-52 overall and 19-24 in the second half after the loss. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. West Virginia Box Score and Game Log Link: Mike Bell and Kenny Holmberg both have quite a bit of power for middle infielders. Ignore the .238 batting average---Kenny holmberg has great plate discipline with a 30/37 bb/kk rate in 165 ab's. You have to wonder where Holmberg will end up playing though, he's definitely behing Hernan, and at 23, the Brewers probably need to find a way to challenge him at a higher level...Inman, of course, dominant.. www.minorleaguebaseball.c..._wvaafx_1

  8. Final: Nashville 9, Sacramento (A's) 5 Nashville Site Game Summary: Link , text follows -- www.nashvillesounds.com/n...ewsId=2096 Sounds Defeat River Cats For 4th Straight Win WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Nashville Sounds sent 11 batters to the plate during a five-run seventh inning en route to posting a 9-5 victory over the host Sacramento River Cats on Sunday evening at Raley Field in the opener of a four-game series. With the triumph, Nashville (63-53) notched its fourth straight victory and fifth win in the club's last six contests to pull 10 games over .500 for the first time since July 27. The Sounds' lead in the PCL American Conference Northern Division remains at 3 ½ games over Iowa. The Nashville offense cranked out a double-digit hit total for the third straight evening. Brent Abernathy led all Sounds batters with a 3-for-5 evening that included two RBIs and two runs scored. Andrew Beattie, who was released by the River Cats at the end of July, drove in a team-best three runs on the night. Four ex-Sacramento players were in the Nashville starting lineup (Beattie, Jermaine Clark, Graham Koonce, and Mark Johnson) and the quartet stung their former club by combining for six hits in 14 at-bats on the evening. The Sounds jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning against River Cats starter Brad Ziegler. The River Cats cut the Nashville lead to 2-1 by scoring a run on catcher John Baker's two-out bases-loaded walk off Sounds starter Carlos Villanueva that capped off a nine-pitch at-bat. Sacramento tied it in the bottom of the fourth with another two-out run, making it a 2-2 game when Mike Rouse scored from first on Keith Ginter's RBI double down the left field line. The Sounds jumped back in front by two in the next half-inning with a two-out rally of their own. After the first two batters were retired, Koonce and Abernathy both singled then scored on Beattie's two-run single down the first-base line to give the visitors a 4-2 advantage. River Cats first baseman Dan Johnson (3-for-4, 3 RBI) cut the Nashville lead to one in the bottom of the fifth when he deposited Villanueva's first pitch of the inning onto the berm beyond the right field fence for his seventh home run of the season. Villanueva exited after loading the bases with one out in the sixth, turning things over to Mike Meyers. The right-hander struck out Hiram Bocachica for the second out before Johnson delivered his second big knock of the evening, a go-ahead two-run single to left that brought in Rouse and Doug Clark for a 5-4 River Cats lead. Nashville took its third lead of the contest by sending 11 men to the plate during a five-run outburst in the top of the seventh. With one out, the Sounds loaded the bases against reliever Mark Watson by sandwiching a pair of walks around a Laynce Nix single. The Sounds then greeted new pitcher Jay Witasick with three consecutive base hits, capped off by a two-run Dave Krynzel double into the right field corner that gave the visitors an 8-5 lead. Following a Mark Johnson walk, Jermaine Clark laced an RBI single to right off Witasick that wrapped up the frame's scoring. Meyers (4-5) picked up a back-door victory after blowing the save for Nashville. He allowed two of his three inherited runners to score but ultimately tossed 0.2 innings of scoreless ball, striking out a pair of batters. Watson (1-2) took the loss after being charged with three runs in just one-third of an inning of work. He allowed one hit and walked two batters. Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision. Ziegler left the contest in line for his first River Cats win but ultimately took a no-decision after allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits while striking out four batters over six innings. Villanueva, who issued a season-high five walks, drew a no-decision after giving up five runs on nine hits over his 5 1/3 frames. The teams continue their series with a 9:05 p.m. CT meeting on Monday night. Left-hander Dana Eveland (3-3, 2.08) will man the bump for the Sounds and face Sacramento southpaw Adam Pettyjohn (2-1, 4.39). 9. Final: Mobile (Padres) 4, Huntsville 3, in 11 innings Huntsville Site Game Summary: Link, text follows -- www.huntsvillestars.com/n...newsId=953 Stars Suffer Stinging Defeat in 11 Pinch-hitter Matt Lauderdale walked with the bases loaded to force in the winning run in the bottom of the eleventh inning to push Mobile to a 4-3 comeback win over Huntsville Sunday night in the third game of a five-game set at Hank Aaron Stadium. The BayBears have won the last two games to improve to 22-21 in the second half, while the Stars dropped to 20-22 in the second half and 2-10 in extra innings games. Huntsville remains four and a half games behind North Division leading Tennessee, which fell 2-1 at home to Birmingham. Chris Mabeus opened the bottom of the 11th on the hill for Huntsville and walked Luis Cruz to open the frame. Cruz stole second base and moved to third base on a throwing error by catcher JC Boscan and stayed there when Colt Morton walked and Drew Macias flied out to shallow left field. Julius Matos was intentionally walked to load the bases and Lauderdale then walked on five pitches to bring in the winning run and beat the Stars for a second time in extra innings. He hit a walk-off, pinch-hit home run off of Brett Evert in the tenth inning on June 22 to give the BayBears an 8-7 win. Matt Yeatman worked a scoreless seventh inning in relief but was lifted in favor of Joe Valentine after walking Dustin Delucchi and Juan Ciriaco to open the eighth. Valentine got Vincent Sinisi to bounce into a force out at second base and then uncorked a wild pitch to move Sinisi to second base before striking out Stephen Smitherman for the second out. Cruz then launched a 2-2 pitch high in the air, tight to the line that cleared the wall in left field for his tenth home run of the year to tie the game at three. Macias led off the home ninth with a double, moved to third on a Matos sacrifice bunt but could not score, as Valentine struck out pinch-hitter Jeremy Cleveland and got Delucchi to fly out. Ryan Braun smacked a line drive on a 1-2 Sean Thompson pitch that cleared the wall in left field for his seventh home run to stake the visitors to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The first inning has featured a home run in each of the first three games of the series. Drew Anderson reached on a fielding error by shortstop Ciriaco with one out in the second inning, moved to third on an Ozzie Chavez single and scored on a base hit by Boscan, who knocked in his 12th run. Chavez advanced to third on the single and scored when Stars' starter Yovani Gallardo grounded out to second base to knock in his second run. Thompson lasted six innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on four hits. He matched a season-high with nine strikeouts and walked two in his third start of the season against Huntsville and his sixth since the start of the second half of the 2005 campaign. Gallardo issued a pair of walks in the third inning but worked out of trouble by striking out Ciriaco and Sinisi to end the frame and did not allow another runner past first base. He permitted a single to Cruz in the fourth and a single by Thompson in the fifth and has allowed only four extra-base hits in 49 1/3 innings. Gallardo fanned five and left with a 3-0 lead but was not involved in the decision for a third time in four starts in which he has thrown shutout baseball. The series continues Monday night with right-hander Jose Capellan making a 25-pitch rehab start for the Stars, who will then have regular scheduled starter Tim Dillard take the hill in relief. Mobile will send right-hander Jose Oyervidez to the mound. Coverage of the game begins at 5:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. Final: Nashville 4, Fresno (Giants) 1 Nashville Game site Summary Link, Text to follow (includes action shot of Ben Hendrickson: www.nashvillesounds.com/news/news.asp?newsId=2092 9th-Inning Nix Blast Wins It For Sounds FRESNO, Calif. ? Laynce Nix belted a three-run home run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to propel the Nashville Sounds to a dramatic 4-1 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies on Thursday evening at Grizzlies Stadium. The victory was the tenth last at-bat win for Nashville (60-53), which increased its division lead back to 2 ½ games over Iowa. Nix?s game-winning blast came on a 3-2 offering from Fresno reliever Erick Threets and traveled nearly 400 feet to left-center. Chris Barnwell and Kennard Bibbs, who had each walked with two outs, scored on the roundtripper, Nix?s 12th of the year and second with the Sounds. The late homer made a winner out of Sounds starter Ben Hendrickson (9-5), who turned in an outstanding effort. The right-hander worked his longest outing of the year with eight innings pitched and held Fresno to just one run on six hits while striking out five to earn his team-leading ninth win. Nix (3-for-5) extended his season-best hitting streak to 14 games with a first-inning single off Fresno starter Nick Pereira. Nix has recorded 10 hits in his initial 18 at-bats for the Sounds (.556). Barnwell stole his 10th base of the season in the ninth, becoming the seventh Nashville player to amass a double-digit theft total in 2006. The Sounds grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on Bibbs? two-out RBI single to right that plated recent addition Andrew Beattie, who had opened the frame with a walk. The Grizzlies tied the contest in the home half of the frame on a run-scoring groundout off the bat of Clay Timpner, who had the unique distinction of being thrown out attempting to steal three different times in the game by Sounds catcher Chad Moeller. Nashville missed an opportunity to move back in front in the fourth, failing to score after putting runners on the corners with no outs. Pereira induced a popout from Moeller for the first out then escaped the jam when Hendrickson bunted a ball in the air back to the pitcher that turned into an inning-ending double play. Hendrickson was on cruise control in the middle frames, retiring eight straight batters from the fifth through seventh and facing the minimum number of batters from the fifth through the eighth. Fresno placed only one runner into scoring position after the second inning. Allan Simpson came on in relief of Hendrickson in the ninth and worked a scoreless frame to notch his ninth save of the year. Grizzlies reliever Carlos Hines (1-3) took the loss after walking Barnwell and Bibbs to put the ducks on the pond prior to Nix?s game-winner. The teams continue their series with another 9:05 p.m. CT matchup on Friday evening. Knuckleballer Jared Fernandez (6-4, 2.70) will toe the rubber for Nashville and face Fresno southpaw Jared Misch (0-1, 4.70). Gamel came a homerun away from the cycle, and he plated five of the ten runs in the inning. Travis Denker hit a solo shot to kickoff the eighth inning for Columbus. Jason Mooneyham walked with the bases loaded, Travis Denker and Russ Mitchell both provided run scoring singles but the rally came to an end when David Sutherland ended the game grounding into a 4-6-3 double play. Shawn Ferguson (1-1) earned the victory, which is the first of his professional career while Mario Alvarez (5-6, 6.03) obtained the loss. Boscan singled home the game-winning run in the bottom half of the ninth inning to lift Huntsville to a dramatic 9-8 over Chattanooga Wednesday night in the final game of a five-game series at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars won a second straight, wild 9-8 game to improve to 19-20 in the second half but could gain no ground on victorious first place Tennessee in the North Division, while Chattanooga fell to 22-18 and one game behind the Smokies. The Stars won three of five to hand the Lookouts just their fifth series defeat in 22 series to this point in the season. Eddy Valdez, who was throwing a bullpen session in between starts when the ninth inning started, was called to take over in the bottom of the inning after the Lookouts scored five times in the top of the frame to tie the game. Jeff Eure opened the ninth with a line drive single to left field, moved to second base on an Ozzie Chavez sacrifice bunt and scored when Boscan singled into right field. It was the second run batted in of the night for the Stars' catcher, who had not driven in a run at home since May 1. Joe Valentine opened the top half of the ninth on the hill for Huntsville and gave up singles to Javier Colina, Rick Asadoorian and Miguel Perez to load the bases before Chris Dickerson and Anderson Machado delivered back-to-back two-run doubles to trim the Huntsville lead to 8-7. Drew Anderson[ moved Machado to third base with a ground out and Jeff Bannon, just sent down from triple-A Louisville earlier in the day, singled into center field to tie the game and knock in his first run with the Lookouts in 36 at-bats. Gerrit Simpson replaced Valentine and got Joey Votto to ground into an inning-ending double play. Eure's two-run home run in the fourth gave the home team a 2-1 lead that was pushed to 6-1 with four runs in the sixth, highlighted by a Travis Ezi three-run blast that knocked starter Camilo Vazquez out of the game. Dickerson's two-run long ball in the seventh, his third of the series, cut the Huntsville lead to 6-3. Ozzie Chavez stole home and Drew Anderson scored on a Steve Moss single in the eighth to push the Stars' advantage to 8-3. Manny Parra worked five innings in his first double-A start of the year for the Stars, yielding one run on three hits and striking out three. Moss finished with three hits, while Eure, Chavez, Boscan and Ron Acuna all had a pair of hits in the Stars' 14-hit attack. 24. Final: Huntsville 9, Chattanooga (Reds) 8 Huntsville Site Game Summary: Link, text follows -- www.huntsvillestars.com/news/news.asp?newsId=948 Stars Win Drama Filled Game in Ninth Ozzie Chavez singled home the game-winning run in the bottom half of the ninth inning to cap off a wild, back and forth affair that Huntsville came back to win 9-8 over Chattanooga Tuesday night in the fourth game of a five-game series at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars snapped a two-game slide, improved to 18-20 in the second half and moved to within three and a half games of co-North Division leaders Tennessee and Chattanooga, who fell to 22-17. Brad Nelson opened the ninth inning with a four pitch walk, moved to second base when Ron Acuna was hit by Jon Coutlangus on an 0-2 offering and advanced to third base when catcher Miguel Perez fielded Drew Anderson?s bunt attempt and threw late to third. Lou Palmisano struck out swinging for the first out before Chavez chopped a single over the mound, into center field through a drawn-in infield for the decisive hit and his fourth run batted in of the night. Chavez finished with four hits and became the fourth Stars batter to collect four hits in a game. Joe Valentine took over on the hill for the Stars in the ninth protecting an 8-6 lead and walked Anderson Machado to start the inning. Drew Anderson, the batter that followed, fouled off two pitches at 3-2 and then slammed the next one over the wall in right field for a home run to tie the game. Joey Votto?s two-run home run in the seventh inning snapped a 3-3 tie and Chris Dickerson?s lead off long ball in the eighth, on the first pitch thrown by Gerrit Simpson, pushed the visitor?s lead to 6-3. Calvin Medlock threw two scoreless innings in relief of starter Homer Bailey and was replaced in the eighth inning by Jim Abbott, who gave up a single to Nelson to start the frame. Ron Acuna and Palmisano walked to load the bases with one out before Chavez doubled to center field past the reach of Dickerson to drive in two to cut the lead to 6-5 and push Palmisano to third. Jeff Eure then delivered a two-run, pinch-hit single to center to put the Stars back on top at 7-6. Coutlangus was brought in to turn Callix Crabbe into a right-handed hitter and the Huntsville second sacker spoiled the strategy by singling into center to plate Eure to make it 8-6 Stars. Bailey, the top rated prospect in the Cincinnati organization, was charged with three runs on eight hits over five innings after allowing only three runs in 36 innings in his first six double-A starts. The three runs and the eight hits were the most he has allowed in any turn with Chattanooga. The series concludes Wednesday night with southpaw Manny Parra making his first start for Huntsville against Lookouts? left-hander Camilo Vazquez. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. 25. Final: Nashville 9 , Salt Lake (Angels) 5, 7 innings Nashville Site Game Summary: Link, Text to follow (includes pic' o Carlos Villanueva: www.nashvillesounds.com/news/news.asp?newsId=2090 Sounds Close Homestand With Twinbill Split NASHVILLE, Tenn. ? The Nashville Sounds split a doubleheader with the visiting Salt Lake Bees on Tuesday night at Greer Stadium but finished the evening on a high note, snapping their five-game losing streak with a 9-5 victory. Nashville (59-52) avoided a sweep with the win and finished the homestand with a 3-5 mark. The Sounds hold at least a 2 ½ game lead over Iowa in the PCL American Conference Northern Division. The nine runs scored by Nashville were the club?s most in 67 games, dating back to a 10-1 victory over Tacoma on May 21. After Salt Lake grabbed a 1-0 lead in the nightcap with a run in the top of the second inning, the Sounds plated three in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 advantage. Graham Koonce walked and Brent Abernathy (3-for-4) singled against Bees starter Steven Shell before Vinny Rottino reached when Shell failed to handle his sacrifice bunt. After Dave Krynzel popped out for the first out of the inning, catcher Chad Moeller laced a two-run single to right to put Nashville in front, 2-1. With two down in the inning, Kennard Bibbs ripped a single to right to plate Rottino for a two-run lead. The teams traded runs again in the fourth. Casey Smith led off the frame with a triple for Salt Lake and scored on a Erick Aybar groundout. The Sounds responded in the bottom of the frame when Zach Sorensen laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to plate Rottino, who had led off with a single and moved to third on a Moeller single. Salt Lake pulled within a run again in the top of the fifth when Mathis scored on Darren Blakely?s one-out single off Nashville starter Carlos Villanueva to make the score, 4-3, but the Sounds again immediately responded to the rally with runs of their own, scoring four in the bottom of the frame while batting around. Laynce Nix got things started when he led off with a triple to left to extend his hitting streak to 12 games then scored on a Shell balk. After Koonce was hit by a pitch and Matt Wilhite came on in relief for the Bees, the Sounds strung together three straight singles, the last of which by Krynzel scored Koonce for a 6-3 lead. Moeller added a sacrifice fly and Sorensen contributed an RBI single to wrap up the inning?s scoring. The Bees did not go away quietly. Kendry Morales continued his hot series with a two-run homer off Villanueva in the top of the sixth to bring the visitors within 8-5. The blast was the first baseman?s eighth of the season overall and third in the last two days against the Sounds. Again, Nashville had an answer for the Salt Lake scoring. Koonce slugged his 11th homer of the year and second of the series in the bottom of the frame, a two-out solo shot to right-center off Bees reliever Jeff Heaverlo. Villanueva (4-0) earned his fourth win in six trips to the hill for Nashville. He allowed five runs on seven hits and matched a season high with eight strikeouts while working all seven innings for his first career Triple-A complete game. Shell (3-7) absorbed the loss after surrendering six runs (five earned) on seven hits over four frames of work for Salt Lake. Bees center fielder Tommy Murphy belted two longballs in the opener to lead Salt Lake to a come-from-behind 7-6 victory over the Sounds in eight innings. The loss was Nashville?s fifth in a row, matching the club?s longest losing streak of the season. For the third consecutive game against the Bees in the series, Nashville failed to protect a lead after the midpoint of the contest and suffered a loss. Salt Lake third baseman Mike Eylward put the visitors on the board in the opener with a two-run double into right-center in the top of the first inning against Sounds starter Dana Eveland. The Sounds bounced right back, plating a run in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Nix hit his first home run as a Sound over the left-field fence, making it a 2-1 game. The roundtripper, which came off Salt Lake starter Kasey Olenberger, was Nix?s 11th of the season and extended his hitting streak to a season-high 11 games. Nashville, which hit the least amount of home runs in the PCL during the month of July with 14 longballs, took a one-run lead in the home half of the second on the team?s second roundtripper of the game. With Rottino on first, Krynzel hit a 2-2 Olenberger offering over the center field wall to push the Sounds ahead of the Bees by one run, 3-2. Krynzel?s tater was his third of the season and snapped his 12 at-bat hitless streak. The Sounds offense gave Eveland some breathing room with a three-run fourth inning to stretch the lead to 6-2. After the first run scored on a Krynzel groundout, catcher Mark Johnson plated Krynzel on a double to left-center. Johnson scored on the following at-bat on a Jermaine Clark RBI single to center. All the runs came against Olenbeger. Salt Lake slowly climbed back into the game, recording runs in each of the final four innings of play. With Dennis Sarfate on the hill in his second relief outing of the season after being moved out of the rotation, Salt Lake rallied for two runs to knot the score in the top of the seventh. With one out and runners at first and second, Eylward singled to score Erick Aybar from second. On the next at-bat, catcher Jeff Mathis singled to load the bases with one out. Adam Pavkovich followed and drew a game-tying walk from Sarfate to knot the score at 6-6. With the bases still juiced and only one out, the right-hander recovered to strike out the next two batters to escape the jam without further damage. The blown save, which came in Sarfate?s first opportunity of the year, cost Eveland his first victory since May 4th. The right-hander allowed three runs on five hits while striking out seven in his five innings of work. With the game tied in the eighth, Murphy smacked his second home run of the game for the Bees to give them a one-run lead. Murphy?s home run, which came off Sounds reliever Allan Simpson, brought the score to its final 7-6. Bees reliever Marcus Gwyn (3-1) held the Sounds scoreless in the bottom of the eighth and earned his third win of the season. Simpson (1-4) took the loss after allowing the game-deciding run in his two-thirds of an inning before being ejected while arguing a balk call. The Sounds head out on their longest road trip of the season tomorrow, a 13-day, 12-game jaunt that includes stops in Fresno, Sacramento, and Albuquerque. Right-hander Justin Lehr (3-4, 3.33) takes the hill for Nashville in Wednesday?s 9:05 p.m. CT series opener to face Fresno right-hander Matt Palmer (3-1, 3.28) . Nashville Box Score and Game Log Vinny Rotino is moving in on .300--Laynce Nix seems incredibly raw for a guy who used to be a top prospect...nonetheless, i still hold out hope for this guy...i dunno why, but i think he will be an impact player.
