i think jones' injuries were related to him being rushed...there was a concern that he was pressing and throwing too many innings at a young age... of course, jones walked alot more people than inman does, which also made it questionable to promote him.. Inman will start in Brevard (or whereever high a is next year), but i'm sure they wont be shy to promote him, like yo this year.. -

Final: Huntsville 11, Carolina (Marlins) 2 Huntsville Site Game Review link, then text www.huntsvillestars.com/news/news.asp?newsId=971 Gallardo Dominant in Stars' Victory Yovani Gallardo worked 5 1/3 perfect innings and Ryan Braun capped a five-run third inning rally with a monstrous home run in Huntsville?s 11-2 pasting of Carolina Thursday night in the middle game of a five-game series at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars have taken the first three games of the set, won four straight overall and improved to 29-23 in the second half but remain two and a half games behind first place Tennessee, which knocked off Mississippi at home 11-3. The Mudcats fell to 22-31 in the second half and for an eighteenth time in their last 21 road games. The Stars have won five in a row at home to match their longest win streak of the year at the Joe. Mudcats? starter Paul Mildren retired the first six hitters he faced before JC Boscan and Travis Ezi opened the third inning with singles, advanced on a Gallardo sacrifice bunt and scored on a Steve Moss single to make it 2-0 Huntsville. Callix Crabbe singled and Braun unloaded on the first pitch he saw, smashing a ball off the middle of the scoreboard in left-center field for his ninth home run of the year to make it 5-0. Crabbe led off the home fifth with a double, stayed at second base when Kevin Randel booted Braun?s ground ball and moved to third when Brad Nelson walked to load the bases and chase Mildren from the game after his shortest outing of the season. Ron Acuna knocked in a run with a ground out, Boscan brought home another with a sacrifice fly and Gallardo finished the rally with a two-run single. Huntsville pounded out 13 hits in the win and has outscored Carolina 25-6 in the series and collected 34 hits to the Mudcats 12. The Huntsville right-hander struck out seven of the first 16 hitters he faced before Brian Cleveland singled to left field to spoil his bid for a no-hitter and perfect game. Rex Rundgren singled home Cleveland with two outs to break the shutout and a Boscan throwing error trying to nail him advancing to second base allowed Jose Campusano to score from third. Gallardo was lifted after six innings and 97 pitches and picked up his fourth win of the season. He finished with nine strikeouts, no walks and yielded three singles. The series continues Friday night with right-hander Tim Dillard taking the hill for Huntsville against Mudcats? right-hander Jose Garcia. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. Huntsville Box Score and Game Log Ho-Hum...Yo flirts with perfection, while k'ing 9 while Ryan Braun hits another bomb. Final: Nashville 5, New Orleans (Nats) 3 Nashville Site Game Review link, (including pic of Carlos Villenueva then text www.nashvillesounds.com/news/news.asp?newsId=2113 Sounds Power Way Past Zephyrs, 5-3 NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Carlos Villanueva?s sixth win of the season was over shadowed by the Nashville offense as the Sounds scored all their runs with the longball in the club?s 5-3 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Thursday night in front of 5,317 fans at Greer Stadium. The victory, the Sounds? fourth in their last six games, plus an Iowa loss resulted in a four-game lead in the PCL American Conference Northern Division for Nashville (67-59). Villanueva (6-0) put together another solid outing at Greer Stadium, allowing three runs on six hits over 7 1/3 innings of work as he recorded his sixth win of the season. In Villanueva?s four starts at Greer Stadium, he has not had an outing less then six innings and his 7 1/3 frames on Thursday marked his longest Triple-A start of the season. Third baseman Jermaine Clark (2-for-3) paced the Sounds? five-hit night with his 16th multiple-hit game of the year. The other three hits came in the form of home runs off the bats of Laynce Nix, Chad Moeller, and Graham Koonce. Both Moeller?s and Koonce?s roundtrippers were their second in as many nights against the Z?s. The Sounds pelted three longballs for the second night in a row. In August, Nashville has slugged 20 home runs in the past 17 games. Coming into August, the team had hit only 29 home runs over a 55-game span in June and July. Former Sound Nelson Figueroa (2-4) started the game for the Zephyrs and gave up five runs on only five hits, including all three Nashville homers, en route to picking up his fourth loss of the year. The Sounds jumped on top early, plating a run in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Nix hit a mammoth fly ball over the right field fence that landed on Chestnut Street to give the Sounds a one-run lead. The four-bagger was Nix?s 16th home run of the season and his sixth since he joined the Sounds on July 30th. The Zephyrs answered right back with a home run of their own in the top of the second. George Lombard smacked an 0-1 offering over the left field fence off Villanueva to tie the contest at 1-1. Lombard?s longball was his seventh of the year. The Sounds reclaimed the lead for good in the bottom of the second by plating three runners to give the home team a 4-1 lead. With one out, Dave Krynzel reached first on a walk and then advanced to second on a Clark single. Both runners advanced a base on a Figueroa wild pitch. With one out and two runners in scoring position, Moeller battled back from an 0-2 count during a 10-pitch at-bat that culminated in a three-run home run over the left field fence. Moeller?s second roundtripper of the season brought the score to 4-1. The home team gave Villanueva some more breathing room in the bottom of the sixth inning. Koonce led off with his 15th home run of the season to give the Sounds a comfortable four-run lead. New Orleans plated two runs in the eighth as they attempted to climb back into the game. With runners on first and second, Marlon Byrd hit an RBI double to left field allowing Tyrell Godwin to score from second. Byrd?s double chased Villanueva from the game and brought in reliever Mitch Stetter. The lefty specialist came into the game and struck out the left-handed hitting Lombard for the second out of the inning. Sounds manager Frank Kremblas then brought in closer Alec Zumwalt to finish the game. With runners on second and third, Zumwalt threw a ball in the dirt that skipped past Moeller and allowed Henry Mateo to score from third, bringing the score to its final 5-3. Zumwalt then struck out pinch-hitter Larry Broadway to get out of the jam without further damage. Zumwalt hurled 1 1/3 innings of shutout baseball as he picked up his team-leading 14th save of the season. Zumwalt?s 14th save ties him for the fifth-most saves in the PCL. The two teams play the finale of the four-game series on Friday night at 7 p.m. The Sounds will give the starting nod to southpaw Dana Eveland (3-3, 1.90) and the Z?s will send right-hander Steve Watkins (6-5, 3.87) to the bump. Nashville Box Score and Game Log: Carlos V with a good start and Laynce Nix with another bomb. TGJ slumping a little since his demotion---truly amazing how often this happens www.minorleaguebaseball.c..._nasa

Final: West Virginia 7, Hickory (Pirates)1 West Virginia Site Game Review: GARRISON HOLDS HICKORY DOWN After allowing a two out RBI single in the top of the first inning, Power lefty Steve Garrison settled down and did not allow another run the rest of the game and the Power offense took care of the rest, scoring seven runs, five in their last two innings as they beat the Hickory Crawdads 7-1 on Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park. Steve Lerud provided Hickory?s only run of the game on a two out RBI single in the top of the first. Darren Ford tied the game in the third inning on a solo homerun, his fifth of the year. West Virginia took the lead in the fourth inning on Brad Willcutt?s Sacrifice Fly which brought in Mike Bell. Ryan Barba and Lorenzo Cain pitched in with two out RBI singles in the seventh inning to add to the Power lead. In the eighth inning Tony Festa hit a two run homer, his fifth of the year and his second in as many nights. Three batters later, Nate Yoho tripled off the wall in right center field, and scored on an errant relay throw from Hickory shortstop Cameron Blair. Lorenzo Cain went 1 for 4, to give him 145 hits on the year, five hits shy of the franchise record. Michael Brantley doubled in the seventh inning, and he has now reached base in his last 22 games. Steve Garrison (6-5) was fantastic through six and two thirds and got the win. He allowed a run on six hits with two strikeouts and induced three double play balls while Patrick Ryan (1) pitched two and a third scoreless innings out of the bullpen to get the save and Dustin Craig (1-1) got the loss. The Power are 65-56 on the year and 26-26 in the second half after the win while the Crawdads fell to 60-62 overall and 27-26 in the second half after the loss. The Power will finish the four game series against the Hickory Crawdads at Appalachian Power Park on Friday night. Right hander Todd Redmond (9-6, 2.92) will make the start for Hickory and the Power will counter with right hander Will Inman (9-1, 1.48 ). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. West Virginia Box Score and Game log Late game heroics let the Power pull it off. I wonder how much more power Darren Ford could develop. You'll aslo note that Ford has gone from not taking walks at all at the beginning of the season, to walking at the 1bb/10ab's rate that management looks for in minor leaguers. Darren is definitely a sleeper prospect. www.minorleaguebaseball.c..._wvaa

Final: West Virginia 7, Hickory (Pirates) 6 WV Power Site Game Review POWER WALK TO VICTORY The lead changed hands four times in Tuesday night?s game between the West Virginia Power and Hickory Crawdads at Appalachian Power Park before the game ended with Mike Bell drawing a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning, as the Power went on to win 7-6 to take the first game of the series. The Hickory Crawdads went up 2-0 in the top of the first inning on an RBI triple from Brad Corley and a run scoring single from Jason Delaney. The Power cut the lead in half on Angel Salome?s RBI single. The RBI for Salome was his 85th, he singled three times on the night but left the game in the seventh inning after injuring his left ankle sliding into second base. The extent of his injury has yet to be determined. West Virginia plated three runs in the top of the second inning to take their first lead. Kenny Holmberg and Ryan Barba ripped back to back RBI singles and Holmberg scored later in the inning on Michael Brantley?s groundout. Cameron Blair tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the fourth inning on a two run homer, his fourth of the year. Hickory took their second lead of the game in the fifth inning after Tony Mansolino scored on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the fifth inning Mat Gamel doubled in Lorenzo Cain to tie the game and Gamel scored later in the inning on Tony Festa?s groundout to give the Power the lead. Hickory tied the game in the seventh inning when Wanell Macia reached on a fielder?s choice to bring in Jason Delaney. In the bottom of the ninth inning with the bases loaded and one out, Mike Bell drew a seven pitch walk to bring in the winning run. Darren Ford, Angel Salome and Ryan Barba all had three hits for the Power. Five Power players in all had multi hit games. Lorenzo Cain hit safely twice, giving him 143 hits on the year, seven away from tying the franchise record for hits in a season. The last at bat victory for the Power was their ninth this season. Brandon Parillo (2-0) who was just called up on Tuesday pitched four solid innings out of the bullpen, surrendering a run on three hits with four strikeouts and got the win, while Matt Swanson (4-4) got the loss. The Power are 63-56 on the year and 24-26 in the second half after the win while the Crawdads fell to 60-60 overall and 27-24 in the second half after the loss. The Power will continue the four game series against the Hickory Crawdads at Appalachian Power Park on Wednesday night. Right hander Jared Hughes (3-3, 5.40) will make the start for Hickory and the Power will counter with right hander Matt Kretzschmar (3-4, 6.08 ). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM West Virginia Box Score and Game Log: Lorenzo cain is about to set the team record for hits in a season, while still managing to walk 52 times in 450 ab's...that's amazing pitch selection and bat control for a guy in single A...Can't help but be impressed by that... www.minorleaguebaseball.c..._wvaa

Final: Brevard County 5, Tampa (Yankees) 0 Milb Game Wrap: Manatees shut out Yankees Four hurlers combined on a six-hitter as Brevard County waited out four scoreless innings by Carl Pavano to beat visiting Tampa, 5-0, on Tuesday. Sam Narron tossed a three-hitter over four innings, striking out two and walking two to lower his ERA to 3.12 in 43 1/3 innings for the Manatees (21-29). Josh Wahpepah (6-8 ) pitched three innings of shutout relief before Joe Thatcher gave up a hit in the eighth and Josh Alliston tossed a 1-2-3 ninth. Pavano, on rehab from New York, pitched a one-hitter over four shutout innings. He struck out five, walked one and retired nine consecutive batters after allowing a first-inning single to Alcides Escobar. Gabriel Medina (0-1) was charged with the loss for the Yankees (28-24) after giving up three runs in the fifth. CJ Medlin blasted a two-run homer in the fifth and Brendan Katin lined an RBI single in the seventh for Brevard County.--Max Lance/MLB.com Brevard County Box Score and Game Log Brendan Katin deserves to be in AA today, not next season, but right now. I hope they give him ample opportunity next year, because his hitting this year has been as close to dominant in Brevard as there can be. Joe Thatcher should probably be on the plane from Orlando to Huntsville as well...and kudes to Wahpepah for pulling ot together.. www.minorleaguebaseball.c..._brea

Final: Huntsville 8, Carolina (Marlins) 1 Huntsville Site Game Review link, then text www.huntsvillestars.com/news/news.asp?newsId=969 Thurman Twirls Gem in Stars Win Corey Thurman worked seven strong innings and chipped in with a key two-run double to push Huntsville past Carolina 8-1 Tuesday night in the opener of a five-game series at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars improved to 27-23 in the second half but could gain no ground on first place Tennessee, which came from behind to beat Mississippi in ten innings. The Mudcats fell to 22-29 and lost for just a third time in their last 11 games. Lou Palmisano walked with two outs in the second inning, moved to second on an Ozzie Chavez single and scored, along with the Stars? shortstop, when Thurman belted James Russ?s first offering into the alley in left-center field for a two-run, two bagger, his first of the season. Drew Anderson and Palmisano provided back-to-back run-scoring singles in the third to push the home team?s lead to 4-0. Thurman retired the first 13 hitters he faced before Brett Carroll tucked a high fly ball just inside the fair pole down the left field line for his sixth home run with the Mudcats and his third against the Stars. A two-out single in the seventh by Josh Pressley was the only other hit allowed by Thurman, who picked up his fifth win of the year and third at home. He walked two and struck out six and lasted seven innings for a fifth time this season. Gerrit Simpson blanked the visitors over the final two frames. Russ was charged with four runs on seven hits and took the loss to drop to 6-9. Kevin Cave gave up a two-run single to Brad Nelson and a two-run, pinch-hit single to Jeff Eure later in the inning to account for the final margin. Nelson, Callix Crabbe and Ryan Braun each had a pair of hits to pace a 12-hit attack and six different players scored at least one run. The series continues Wednesday night with southpaw Steve Hammond making the start for Huntsville against Mudcats? left-hander Manu Olivera. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. Huntsville Box Score and Game Log: A recent check of his stats over at minorleaguesplits.com shows that Braun kills lefties while only hitting righties to the tune of about an .820 OPS...the good news is that would still be a very solid OPS in the Southern League.. www.minorleaguebaseball.c..._hunaax_1

Final: New Orleans (Nat's) 6, Nashville 4 Nashville Game Site Review: link, (including David Krynzel pic) then text www.nashvillesounds.com/news/news.asp?newsId=2111 Zephyrs Rally To Defeat Sounds In Extras NASHVILLE, Tenn. ? New Orleans shortstop Josh Labandeira delivered a two-out RBI single in the top of the tenth inning to lead the visiting Zephyrs to a come-from-behind 6-4 victory over the Nashville Sounds on Tuesday evening at Greer Stadium in the opener of a four-game series. The Zephyrs scored the final five runs of the contest, recovering from a late 4-1 deficit to force extras, to hand the Sounds their seventh loss in their last eight home contests. Nashville (65-59), which fell to 4-8 in extra-inning contests, retained its two-game lead over Iowa in the PCL American Conference Northern Division as the Cubs lost at Round Rock. In the top of the tenth, Tyrell Godwin singled with one out against Sounds reliever Alec Zumwalt and stole second as George Lombard fanned for the second out of the inning. After an Alberto Castillo walk, Labandeira laced his run-scoring knock to right to plate Godwin, and as Castillo attempted to advance to third, Nashville catcher Vinny Rottino?s throw flew into right field to allow Castillo to score an unearned run for a 6-4 advantage. The Sounds led 4-1 in the eighth inning before Marlon Byrd tied the contest with a three-run homer off Allan Simpson. Chris Barnwell gave the Sounds an early 1-0 lead when he belted his fourth home run of the season, a one-out solo shot to right-center against Zephyrs starter Kip Bouknight in the bottom of the first inning. Dave Krynzel continued the power barrage in the second when he swatted a two-run homer off Bouknight. The mammoth blast to center, which easily cleared the 16 feet of walls, was the outfielder?s sixth of the year. Rottino, who had walked, scored on the roundtripper. New Orleans got on the board in the top of the sixth when Kenny Kelly scored on a straight steal of home with two outs, making the score 3-1. Nashville got the run back in the bottom of the frame when Laynce Nix led off with a double and scored two batters later on Andrew Beattie?s RBI two-bagger. The knock was Beattie?s first at Greer Stadium as a member of the Sounds; he joined the club on its recent road trip. Nix went 2-for-4, his ninth multi-hit effort in 15 games with Nashville this season. The outfielder is batting .436 (24-for-55) since joining the Sounds. The Sounds couldn?t capitalize further in the sixth, however, after having the bases loaded with one out against Z?s reliever Jason Norderum. Zach Sorensen grounded into a force at the plate and then, with pinch-hitter Jermaine Clark at the plate, Krynzel broke for third in the middle of the at-bat and Rottino was ultimately thrown out at the plate following a rundown to end the inning. The Zephyrs tied the contest at 4-4 with one swing of the bat in the top of the eighth when Byrd crushed Simpson?s offering over the right field wall for a three-run homer. The blast was his fifth of the year and fourth in the last four games. Kelly (single) and Henry Mateo (walk) scored on the tater. The blown save was Simpson?s team-leading fourth of the year and the Sounds? 20th overall as a club in 2006. Z?s reliever Chris Booker (2-0) was the beneficiary of the late New Orleans rally and picked up his second victory. Kevin Gryboski kept the Sounds off the board in the bottom of the tenth to secure his sixth save of the campaign. Zumwalt (0-2) took the loss for the Sounds after surrendering two runs in his lone inning of work. Nashville starter Ben Hendrickson, who took a no-decision after leaving the contest in line for his 10th victory, worked 5 2/3 innings and allowed one run on two hits. He walked two batters and struck out five. The teams continue the series with another 6 p.m. meeting on Wednesday evening at Greer. The Sounds send southpaw Zach Jackson (2-5, 4.50) to the hill to face New Orleans right-hander Andrew Good (8-7, 4.89). Nashville Box Score and Game Log: Laynce Nix may not hiy .400 for the rest of the season, but his showing so far demonstrates why he was such a highly thought of prospect to begin with. I think Nix has a lot in common with Gabe Gross...and we could see him get a shot in the outfield sooner rather than later, especially since he's one of Doug's guys... www.minorleaguebaseball.c..._nasaaa_1

The Power took an early 2-0 lead on Angel Salome's two-run homer in the top of the first inning. The home run was his tenth of the year, and it gave him 84 RBI on the season, which leads the league. Delmarva answered quickly on a two-out, three-run double from Ryan Finan in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead. Delmarva scored three more times in the bottom of the third on a two-run single from Jonathan Tucker and Mark Fleisher crossed the plate on a passed ball. Zach Dillon hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Shorebirds a 7-2 lead. In the fifth inning Lorenzo Cain hit a solo home run, his sixth of the year to bring the Power within four. The Shorebirds answered in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single from Blake Davis. Michael Brantley scored on Zach Dillon?s throwing error in the seventh inning, and the Power scored their final run on Cain?s RBI single in the ninth. The base hit was Cain?s 141st hit of the year, which leads the league. Kyle Schmidt (3-2) got the win, and Shawn Ferguson (1-2) got the loss. The Power are 62-56 on the year and 23-26 in the second half after the loss while the Shorebirds improved to 54-61 overall and 18-30 in the second half after the win.
