  3. Final Score: Vero Beach 8, Brevard County 5 Game Summary from Milb.com Dunlap, Dodgers cage Manatees Cory Dunlap homered twice and drove in four runs to power Vero Beach over visiting Brevard County, 8-5, on Saturday. Dunlap had a solo shot in the second inning and a three-run jack in the third. He moved into second place on the team with 11 home runs. Blake Dewitt chipped in, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Alberto Bastardo (3-5) got the win, allowing two runs -- one earned -- on four hits, while striking out a season-high 11 and walking one in six innings. Jose Diaz got the final eight outs for his second save of the season. The Dodgers (9-13) have won three straight. Josh Wahpepah (3-5) took the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking three in five innings. Alcides Escobar smacked a three-run homer for Brevard County (8-13) which has lost five of its last six. -- Link to Box Score and Game Log: Alcides with a big night, homers are rare for him and the league, so savor it...Josh Wahpepah seems to be fading a bit in the second half, which is eerily reminiscent of last year...the brewers may want to take into consideration innings pitched when deciding his future role www.minorleaguebaseball.com/..._vbdafa_1
  4. Final: Mississippi (Braves) 3 , Huntsville 0 Game Summary from Huntsville Website: Harrison and Bullpen Handcuff Stars Matt Harrison and two relievers combined on a five-hit shutout, as Mississippi took advantage of defensive breakdowns to blank Huntsville 3-0 Saturday night in the fourth game of a five-game set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Braves won their second straight to improve to 8-16 in the second half, while the Stars dropped to 10-14 in the half and were shutout for a tenth time at home and 13th time on the season. Josh Burrus reached first base in the first inning on a fielder?s choice when the Stars failed to turn a double play, stole second base and scored on a two-out single by Brandon Jones to give the visitors the early 1-0 lead. Jones stole second and was thrown out trying to score by Ron Acuna from right field on a base hit by Yunel Escobar. Steve Moss led off the home first with a triple but could not score when Callix Crabbe grounded out against a drawn-in infield, Jeff Eure was called out on strikes and Brad Nelson grounded out. Acuna led off the home second inning with a double but was left stranded at third base. The Stars have been held to a single run on eight hits in the last two games after scoring 14 times on 23 hits in the first two games of the series. Escobar reached first base on a Milko Jaramillo throwing error with one out in the sixth, moved to third base on a single by Barbaro Canizares and scored on a wild pitch by starter Tim Dillard to make it 2-0. Onil Joseph reached with one out in the seventh on a fielding error by third baseman Eure, advanced to third on a hit and run single by Mike Rozema and scored on a fielder?s choice grounder by Burrus. Dillard lasted eight innings, allowing only one earned run on eight hits but suffered the loss to fall to 6-6. The Stars committed three errors and have made five in the series. Mississippi starter Matt Harrison retired 10 in a row after a Moss single in the third and allowed only one other runner, Drew Anderson in the seventh, to reach second base. He yielded five hits and fanned three to pick up his first win at the double-A level. Jose Ascanio retired all three hitters he faced in the eighth and Zach Schreiber retired the side in order in the ninth to close out the game and earn his 12th save in 12 opportunities. The series wraps up Sunday evening with right-hander Corey Thurman starting for Huntsville against Braves? left-hander Dan Smith. Coverage of the game begins at 5:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. 6. seriously, someone should just call the manatees office and ask...and inform them that the reason nbody cares about their team is because they do a really bad job of promoting it and spreading info

  9. Huntsville Game Site Summary www.huntsvillestars.com/news/news.asp?newsId=903 Sing and Mateo Send Stars to Defeat Brandon Sing collected three hits, drove in three runs and scored twice to lead West Tenn past Huntsville 7-3 Sunday night in the fourth game of a five-game set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Diamond Jaxx won their third straight to improve to 8-6 in the second half, while the Stars dropped to 5-9 in the second half and fell for an twelfth time in 14 home meetings with the visitors. The Stars struck first scoring twice in the second inning against Juan Mateo, who had blanked them over four frames in relief his last turn at the Joe on June 15. JC Boscansingled with one out and scored when Travis Ezi followed with a triple. Pitcher Corey Thurman stroked a two-out line drive in and out of the glove of second baseman Eric Patterson that went for an error and allowed Ezi to score. Thurman worked out of trouble in the first and third innings and yielded his first run of the night when Jake Fox singled home Sing with two outs in the fourth. West Tenn erupted for four runs in the fifth by stringing together five straight hits with one out. Nic Jackson singled in Chris Walker with the tying run and scored, with Patterson, on a two-run double by Sing, who knocked in his 12th and 13th runs with West Tenn. Miguel Negron singled to left to move Sing to third and knock Thurman out of the game. Scott Moore bounced into a fielder?s choice to push Sing across with the final run of the frame. Thurman was charged with five runs on a season-high 10 hits and suffered the loss to drop to 2-8. Mateo retired 11 in a row before Boscan doubled and Ezi walked with two outs in the sixth and was taken out of the game. Carlos Vasquez set down Milko Jaramillo on a pop up to end the frame and maintain the visitors three-run lead. Chris Mabeus, who took over for Thurman, walked Patterson and Jackson to open the seventh and was replaced by Matt Yeatman, who allowed run-scoring hits by Sing and Negron to extend the West Tenn lead to 7-2. Jackson, Sing and Negron each totaled three hits and the Diamond Jaxx stole seven bases, including three by Patterson and a pair by Jackson. Vasquez walked Ryan Braun with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh to force in a run and was replaced by Ed Campusano, who retired Boscan on a foul pop to end the threat and keep the 7-3 lead in tact. The southpaw then set down six of the seven hitters he faced in the next two innings to close out the win and earn his first save at the double-A level. Mateo grabbed his fifth win, allowing two runs on five hits and a pair of walks in 5 2/3 innings. The series concludes on Monday night with left-hander Jorge De La Rosa making his second rehab start for Huntsville against Diamond Jaxx right-hander Sean Gallagher. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. My Notes: Still waiting for Braun to fire up...good to see a walk tonight. Former Colbyjack favorite Scott Moore is soundly re-establishing himself as a prospect--i'm glad we have Fielder, but maybe the guy will make it to the majors!
  10. Nashville Game Site Summary: www.nashvillesounds.com/news/news.asp?newsId=2034 Hendrickson Sharp Again In Sounds Shutout NASHVILLE, Tenn. ? Nashville starter Ben Hendrickson continued to mow down batters as he posted his fourth consecutive winning start with seven innings of two-hit scoreless ball as the Sounds blanked the Round Rock Express, 5-0, on Sunday night at Greer Stadium. The victory snapped a four-game losing skid for Nashville (43-39) and was the team?s eighth shutout win of the season, which ties Salt Lake for most in the Pacific Coast League. With his solid outing, Hendrickson (7-2) picked up his team-leading seventh victory and recorded his fourth win in as many starts. During those four games, he has logged a miniscule 0.71 ERA, allowing two earned runs over 25 1/3 innings of work. Hendrickson?s seven shutout frames lowered his ERA to a minute 1.77 on the year, which moves him past teammate Dana Eveland (1.78) for the lowest ERA in the PCL. The Express have not found a way to hit Hendrickson this season. The last two times the right-hander has faced Round Rock, he has been able to hold the Express scoreless and has allowed only two hits in his 13 innings of work against them. The Sounds? bats continued to awaken from their recent slumber as they banged out 10 hits for the second straight night against the Express. Everyone came to play Sunday night as every position player in the starting lineup recorded a hit. Of Nashville?s 10 hits, both Tony Gwynn and Ozzie Chavez recorded multiple hits on the night. Gwynn?s two singles gave the All-Star his team leading 31st multiple-hit effort of the year. Nashville jumped out to an early lead, plating one run in the first inning off Round Rock starter Jared Gothreaux. Gwynn started the Sounds off with a leadoff single and scored two batters later on a Graham Koonce double to left-center for a 1-0 lead. The Sounds? bats continued to be hot in the bottom of the third as three more runners crossed home on back-to-back-to-back RBI singles from Mike Rivera, Dave Krynzel, and Vinny Rottino. Rivera scored the frame?s third and final run with an athletic slide to avoid the tag of Express catcher Humberto Quintero and make it a 4-0 contest. In the bottom of the sixth, the Sounds plated their final run of the game. With the bases loaded, Brent Abernathy hit a sacrifice fly to center off Express reliever Mike Gallo. Rottino, who led the inning off with a walk, scored from the third on the play to bring the score to its final 5-0. The Express were unable to plate any runners as the Sounds pitchers never allowed them to reach any farther then second base all night. The Nashville pitching staff only allowed three Round Rock runners to reach second base and every time the Express failed to capitalize, finishing 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. After Hendrickson left the game, Sounds manager Frank Kremblas brought in reliever Chris Demaria and the right-hander threw two scoreless innings of one-hit baseball to close the game out. Gothreaux (3-6) took the loss for Round Rock after allowing five runs on nine hits and four walks in his five innings of work. On Monday evening, the Sounds close out the four-game series against the Express with a 7 p.m. finale. Nashville sends right-hander Dennis Sarfate (6-4, 3.43) to the hill to face Round Rock right-hander Chris Sampson (9-1, 2.61). In honor of the 4th of July, the Sounds will be wearing blue patriotic jerseys that will be available for purchase by fans during the game in a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit the Nashville Sounds Foundation. The team will present a special Independence Day fireworks show following the on-field action. My Notes: Nelson Cruz's power seems to be stagnating a bit, and he's on pace for almost 180 k's over 600 ab's...he's got power, but that k rate is absolutely alarming. Tony Gwynn Jr. continues to hit singles, but his obp. and slg. still show why he's not a premium prospect. Edit: Accidental emoticons
  11. this is just Dana's first trip to AAA...if he hadn't pitched in the majors this year, we'd all be salivating and bowing down to him...those are truly impressive numbers in AAA, and a solid reason not to give up any high expectations for Dana quite yet.. Yo is sick good...that's just crazy
  12. i watched yo hit 94 about 10 times...and i bet he can touch 95...i think he could work around 92-93...that's not his best heat though...
  13. i thought he hit 3 , but it might have been the first reliever that hit the 3rd guy..
  14. ?Finally, A Chance to See a Manatee in the Wild? Yovani is not injured. They pulled him because he wasn't doing that great---he walked three guys and hit another 3, plus several hits. I don't know what the pitch count was, but he was getting knocked around a bit, and the Manatees wanted somebody else in there. Ok, so he's fine...now to scout him a little: Gallardo hits 94, but the vast majority of his fastballs were in the 89-91 range. It's possible that he could work a little higher given time. The other teams starter was akin to Jeff Housman, as his fastest pitch was 88..and he sat at 85 a few times...Yovani has a huge curveball and seemingly pinpoint control, but the umpire was very inconsistent, leading to the non hit batsmen walks being questionable. There is no doubt that Yo has absolutely filthy stuff and I wish I gotten to see a better game, still if I had to rank the top 3 A/A+ pitchers, I'd say it's Inman, Yo, Rogers. Rogers has a torch and the other two can't touch him on the speed gun. But Inman is more consistent and stays in the 93-94 range with better control than either of the other guys. I'd say Yo?s ceiling is probably a 2 and he has plenty of ability to k guys with the fastball and the curve Ryan Braun was definitely in Brevard tonight, and when I asked the camera guy who was with the team, he hadn't heard anything about Braun being promoted a level. However, the first half did not end until tonight, so he may be catching a flight in the morning. This is the fourth time I?ve seen him at third, and I'll say this again---his defense is better than his reputation. He's not a gold glover over there, but he's plenty quick and adept, and he throws well. He's as good as most of the guys the Brewers have run out there...and much better than Helms defensively---I think he'll stick easily. As for hitting, the single was kind of a bloop and the 3b would have been a homerun at any park other than Space Coast. Holy Cow, the place is huge for one (340 down the lines...I?d guess 370 in the "power" alleys and 404 in CF, but with a 25' hitters eye) not to mention that it's very humid with swirling wind at all times. I've never seen outfielders play as shallow as both teams played their outfield, and I?ve never seen a ball die like it did every time they hit it in the air tonight. I know that Huntsville isn't a great hitter's environment, but this place was the pits for power hitting. Other tidbits: Alcides Escobar has unbelievable range and a great arm. He fielded one that was about 30 feet out in the outfield grass, turned and fired...and to the amazement of the crowd came a half step from throwing the runner out. Alcides still looks every bit of 19, and hasn't gained an ounce since I first saw him at spring training in 2005, but when he does fill out a little he will be a starter in the majors. Something in the mold of Omar Vizquel---yup, that good. Charlie Fermaint also has a terrific arm. Not only did he have a great putout at home plate, but he was mere inches from throwing out the runner on the previous play. He did misplay a ball off his chest early in the game that wasn't ruled an error because no one advanced, but all in all I'd say Chuck can handle CF, but if he has to move, he's got plenty of arm for one of the corners. Hernan didn't impress much tonight, and I am concerned about his prospect status. He was much more compelling last year, but I'm not ready to write him off completely yet. He's more of a hacker than his stats would indicate, and he really doesn't have much power---he might hit 10 bombs in a good year, so he's just not a top class prospect. The clubhouse store had a few of his game used bats for sail, and I was very tempted to buy one, take it home, and cut it open...but $25 seemed a little expensive to prove something I already know...though it would have been fun to hold the proof in my hands. Well, that?s it for now. Send me an email, or ask me on the boards if you think of anything you wanted to hear about or a player I didn't mention
  15. First things first... Yo is not injured...they pulled him because he wasn't doing that great...he walked three guys and hit another 3..plus several hits..i don't know what the pitch count was, but he was getting knocked around a bit, and the manatees wanted somebody else in there... more to come...
  16. It's Yo, not Rogers tonight.. and i'll be there!!!! WOOOOOO!!! lengthy report after game!
  17. when's Yo's next start? I'm headed to orlando and i'm going to brevard for a game..and would like to see yo pitch, since i missed him last year in low a.. lemme know here, or pm me.. thanx
  18. havent seen palazzo pitch, but stood next to him...he's ridiculously big...not like other tall pitchers..more like an oak tree
  19. Yo now at 100 k's in 73 innings with 18 walks...he's on pace for more than 300 in a 240 innings season... unreal...i don't think any of the brewers other pitching prospect (including sheets) ever put up numbers like this...insane edit: yup...checked it out...when sheets was in AA in 2000, he k'd 60 in 72..which was his best rate in the minors
  20. If Mark can keep it in the strikezone, he will dominate, as his stuff is just ridiculously filthy...the only problem is when he starts walking people, because then the hitters can wait until 3-0, or 3-1 and kill the strike's.. he reminds me a lot of daniel cabrera at the moment...when he's good, he owns the game...and when he's not it's 13-0 in the 2nd inning...i hav much higher hopes for mark of course..
  21. woulda rather had bard...far and away..
  22. well, if they do take kiker, i can probably find the guy for an interview...he lives right across the river from my parents
