  1. Thanks for the report. Keep us updated on how you like it. I've been using MLB.TV with Unlocator's Smart DNS for $1.65 / month. MLB.TV is about $9 / month for one team. So I'm coming in at under $11 / month. But that's only for one MLB team. Having ALL of the other major sports would be awesome. No DVR is a big drawback, however. And Uzzu seems shady. I'm not sure if there's a better word for it Watched the game tonight and the broadcast was flawless. I question Uzzu as borderline legal, but the interface is professional and the website responsive, professional, and making updates on a regular basis. They claim they are legal. Then again I got a phone call today from the "US Federal Reserve". It was a recorded message that an illegal breach to my bank account had been detected, Federal Marshalls had issued an arrest warrant for me and I needed to press one right away. This may be my last post on the internets......
  2. I singed up for Uzzu TV. It's about $20/month. Free NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, all games. For MLB they are broadcasting MLB.tv. No blackouts. All games. You can add the channel to your Roku device, watch on computer or mobile device. The picture is outstanding through Roku. At times it will freeze up, but a quick switch to the other team's feed and back and you're in business.
  3. To me Prince is the icon of the modern Brewers renaissance. He was the spirit and the soul of the team when he was a Brewer. I figured with his body he wasn't going to have a long a career and the Brewers were right to let him go, but they went for it in 2011 specifically because they knew they couldn't keep him another year. My favorite Brewer of all time. His inside the park HR in the Metrodome and many other moments bring a smile to my face to this day.
  4. Maybe his entrance song should be "Two out of Three Ain't Bad".
  5. A coach who wears a short skirt and a loooooong jacket? Now that would be groundbreaking!
  6. Davis has started 10 games in the OF and played a total of 86 innings. I doubt that mitigates much of anything. I wonder how many chances a corner OF'er gets on average and how awful he would really need to be to negatively affect a positive offensive contribution. Braun has 88 putouts in 89 chances in 448.1 innings in LF this year. Yellich has 83 PO's in 86 chances in 464 innings in LF this year. I am not making the case that Braun is Yellich's equal. Clearly Yellich is a wonderful outfielder. But given the number of chances a LF'er has in a game, and the fact most balls hit to the outfield are rather routine, how much impact does the difference between a bad LF'er and a good LF'er really make? Is it 5 missed plays a year? 10?
  7. The problem with saving Knebel for save situations is he's not getting enough regular work to remain effective. His command seems much weaker if he's not pitching every 2-3 days. Hader should have been used in one of Saturday's games. Those were close games they had a chance of winning. Using your best relievers in a 2-1 game is good strategy whether your team is behind or ahead. I think Counsell is the best manager this team has had in a long while. Part of my belief is based on the way he has effectively used his bullpen. The last few weeks though, he's seemed tentative. It's like he's falling back on traditional bullpen roles like managers often do to cover their decisions. "We had our guy in there at the end and he didn't get the job done. Not my fault."
  8. On June 8 Sogard was hitting: 414/541/672. The rest of the year he went: 230/344/288. That's more in line with his career numbers: 245/313/324. The .344 obp after June 8 is intriguing and indicates he may have value as a lefty backup. Villar hit 274/307/415 from June 9 on. Villar was very good in 2016 and I'd give him the chance to get that obp back up to 2016 level. Sogard will look for a team that offers more playing time. Brewers have Thames, Aquilar, Villar, Arcia, Shaw, Perez around the infield. Figure Phillips makes the team, quite possibly Brinson. Given the current roster, Broxton and Sogard would be fighting for the final position player spot. I don't see Sogard waiting around to see how he fits in.
  9. My hope for the season was a .500 finish, figuring a little luck could bring them 84 wins. There are 55 games remaining. Essentially, Tuesday marks the beginning of the last 1/3 of the season. Brewers need to go 29-26 to reach 84 wins. That seems doable. Winning the division this year was always as much a function of other teams playing poorly, than the Brewers suddenly becoming a 90+ win team. My hope remains they finish .500 and the season will be a success. Anything above that is terrific. It's been a great season. Barring a total collapse, there should be no regrets.
  10. Last year he was a better hitter against lefties than righties. For his career he's been a better hitter against lefties than righties. In general, platoon splits in a single season aren't an accurate representation, let alone splits over a half season.
  11. Really? Santana is 24and Brinson and phillips are 23. So the Brewers should trad 24 year old major leaguers with plus +870 OPS as part of the rebuild?
  12. After two starts last year Anderson's ERA was 0.00 and the team won both games. After that he was awful until July. He was pretty good from then to the end of the season. I expect a similar 4 starter type performance this year. Sure looked good last night though.
  13. Great interview. He might be my favorite Brewer of all time. Intense and dedicated, but always appeared to love the game and have a good time playing it. It was his Milwaukee Brewers. He was the spirit of the team.
  14. on 7 november, the rangers activated fielder from the 60-day disabled list and returned him to their 40-man roster. he will undoubtedly hold that roster spot throughout the offseason. This is what the Orioles had to do with Albert Belle for several seasons.
  15. Oh Rangers...wow that trade looked dumb at the time and it was indeed dumb in the end. Somehow ended up being worse than I envisioned. Actually, didn't the Rangers luck out? Since Prince can't play anymore, insurance is probably paying out most of his contract.
  16. The Tigers tradede Prince after the second season of his contract with about the same amount of money/years remaining as Votto. They agreed to pay $6 million a year, I believe. So I can see this happening pretty easily. Reds paying $6-8 million a year is a lot less than being on the hook for the $25M/year he has coming to him.
  17. ummm, how is that different than the Brewers? We are not lovable losers. Are the Cubs really losers, let alone lovable? They have made it to the playoffs 5 of the last 14 seasons. They have had 7 winning seasons in that time. The Indians have been to the playoffs 3 times, with 5 winning seasons in that span. Granted neither time has been a dynasty in the 2000's, but most Brewer fans would take the Cubs' results since 2003. The Cubs have always had the resources to win but have suffered through periods of bad management. Their young talented position players are no better than the Brewers' talent from 5-10 years ago. The difference is the Cubs will always have the money to throw at proven veteran pitchers. And they will be able to keep and sign any player they desire. Their payroll this season is estimated at $189 million (estimated at B-ref.com; Cots puts the opening day salary at $171,611,834). The Brewers will never have a payroll that high using 2016 dollars. The Cubs are the best team in NL and I respect the talent on this team and the way it was built. But I reject this marketing image that they are this lovable everyman team that we should all cheer. They aren't the Kansas City Royals or the Cleveland Indians, two teams that, like the Brewers, are truly underdogs when it comes to market size and resources. They're just another big market team that can buy their way to the playoffs whenever ownership gets the urge.
  18. They are 43-49 since May 1st. I expect they won't be able to keep up that pace after the deadline trades, but I feel Counsell has gotten the best performance possible out of this team. I don't understand why Broxton isn't playing every day in CF, but I don't have any other complaints. Counsell seems to be onboard with modern analytics and is a good match with the new direction of the team. I expect him to be around for several more seasons.
  19. They should retire his number. He's one of my favorite players of all time. He played the game as hard as any Brewer ever. His inside the park home run in the Metrodome was great fun and a moment I'll never forget.
  20. I hate the All Star Game. I hate the 4 days without meaningful baseball. It's a waste of time in the middle of summer when no other professional sports are going on, except golf and tennis. This is the perfect week to have actual important matchups going on, instead of stopping the game for 4 days. It would be way cooler if they would leave the schedule open this week, then announce a competitive 3 game series' where teams go head to head against similar teams. Once the All Star break is over NFL training camp takes all the attention away from MLB.
  21. I agree with Melvin's past philosophy: Pitchers are more valuable at the deadline, position players during the offseason. There aren't many contending teams who need a LF'er and C right now. If Lucroy and Braun are traded mid season, the team's record will suffer. Anyone else traded it won't make much of a difference. Braun in particular could bring a huge package of talent in the offseason. I'm on board with the rebuild, but letting the present roster play out the season isn't a bad thing. It doesn't stop the process and will certainly help with fan interest. Trading players who are controllable for several more seasons, even if they are merely placeholders, doesn't seem like the best strategy. Let Carter, Villar, Gennett stay on the team so you're not forced to bring up players and start their clock before they are ready. Plus, there is no reason to think Villar can't be part of the next great Brewer team.
  22. Ramon Flores is quietly, but positively adjusting to major league pitchers. Since May 6 he's hitting 292/360/369. Sure he's just a singles hitter, but he has nice on base skills and plays fine CF and other positions. Looking more and more like he's going to make it as a major league bench player.
  23. Villar should be penciled in at starting 2B in 2017. He's a switch hitter with speed, good glove and on base skills. Gennett still can't hit lefties, is below average in the field, doesn't run that well, poor on base skills, and arbitration eligible after this season. Villar isn't eligible until 2018 and a year younger.
  24. I signed up for the 7 day free trial. You have to take the base package for $20 plus the package with FSN for another $20. I couldn't sign up for just the package with FSN. The good news though, you can watch the second package on 3 devices at once. The base is a single stream service only. I live on the Minnesota border just inside Wisconsin, so my FSN was FSN North which was showing the Wild game. However, you also get 4 FSN North alternative channels and one of those was FSN Wisconsin. So I could watch the Brewers last night. Interestingly I could also watch the Twins feed of the Brewers on another alternate FSN. This is intriguing because in the past when I had cable or DirecTV the Twins games were always blacked out. So SlingTV might be violating the MLB blackout rules. But being able to watch all Twins plus Brewers games nearly doubles the value if you are a baseball fan. You also get FS1 with the second package. The quality was outstanding on my computer. I have an AppleTV (unfortunately) connected to my TV and they have no intention of adding a SlingTV app, so I may need to get Roku. If you pay for 3 months of SlingTV in advance they give you a free Roku2. I've done many free trials of Sling, including during the first week of the NCAA tournament, using different email accounts. The picture quality is excellent, though it does have that "streaming" look as opposed to a live cable feed.
  25. Brewers have drawn 26 walks in the first five games, good enough for 4th most in the league. Last year at this time they had drawn 10.
