  1. [sarcasm]Yuni was pretty good at it last year[/sarcasm] Exactly! So was JuanFran.
  2. Asking a player to learn a new position during the season is a recipe for failure. Anybody see the Twins ss playing CF a couple games last week? It was pathetic. If they really wanted Rickie to develop more flexibility then it should have started in Spring Training. Or, better yet, last Fall so he could do some workouts over the winter.
  3. I've noticed a lot of posters here want to dismantle the team every year if they don't believe the Brewers have a shot at the World Series. I know Packer fans last season who wanted them to lose and miss the playoffs so they'd get a higher draft pick.
  4. Cardinals are now 13-11, .565 winning pct that translates to 91.5 wins for a full season. They are only 4-1/2 games out of first and currently tied for the second wild card spot. So they are right in the area where you'd expect a contender. Unfortunately.
  5. From a New England pal who posts on an Orioles board I visit: "BTW, I watched a lot of Joepepsi's Brew Crew this weekend and came away impressed, particularly with the kids in the middle. A lot of good young talent on that team."
  6. Prednisone would probably make the symptoms go away. Doubt anybody would want to go down that road.
  7. Another classy Cardinal is McGwire, who denied taking steroids right up until he admitted it. Tell me Classy Friend, if Braun shouldn't be in baseball, why is McGwire? Cardinal fans should be quiet about steroids, given LaRussa managed the A's when they were the shot in the butt that started widespread PED use in MLB. He had to know and possibly condone what was going on. He was pretty darn quick to bring Big Mac and the steroid culture to Cardinal Nation.
  8. This would make more sense if the Brewers had shifted focus toward building for the future over the past 9 months, similar to what the White Sox have been doing. Since the focus has been restocking a potential wild card contender, every win matters for this team and Peralta is likely to be more valuable than those who would replace his starts. It is also possible that Peralta will add more value to this year's team then he would to the 2019 version of the Brewers anyway based on the fact they have very little in the way of organizational impact talent under 25 years old. It still would not make sense. If the Brewers chose building for the future the past 9 months they would never have signed Garza, would have entertained offers for Yo and Lohse, and penciled in Smith, Thornburg, and Peralta for the 2014 rotation.
  9. Pete Rose's hit total through his age 37 season was 3164. Robin retired after his age 37 season with 3142. Yount had more plate appearances, but until his final season, he was always ahead of Rose in career hits per age. Robin was clearly at the end of a his outstanding career when he retired, but still you wonder, had he wanted to stick around and play at a sub par level for another 8 years like Rose did, would he be the Hit King?
  10. Please explain how he was eligible for the Rule V? He was drafted in 2011, but needed TJ surgery and didn't play in the minors until 2013. I thought you had had ti be in the minors for 5 or 6 years without being added to the 40 moan roster to be eligible for the Rule V draft...
  11. http://seattletimes.com/html/nationworld/2022939197_medicalmarijuanaxml.html Big article in the papers and internets last week regarding marijuana's ability to control seizures in kids. he,p and pot have many great uses in this world. It's time we lift the Reefer Madness fears from our culture. Regulate, tax, make it legal.
  12. He has shown some improvement in offense the last two years. He's entering his age 27 season, so he could have a mini breakout and run a couple seasons of 300/350/450 numbers.
  13. Jeter's career slash line: 312/381/446. Postseason slash line:308/374/465. If every player had a season's worth of AB's in post season they too would most likely hit around their career average. He's a HOF'er who deserved MVP for his great season in 1999. I never liked him much, mostly because he was a Yankee, but he had a great career and represented his team and the sport in commendable fashion. I once heard an interview with Orlando Cabrera where he hinted all those Jeter dives and jump-throw-and-flip plays were because the guy never bothered to position himself for the batter and the pitch. He stands in the same position every play, so plays that look routine by most ss who are paying attention to the game, take on a fantastic appearance by the bored on defense Yankee ss.
  14. If Scooter keeps up last year's walk rate and hits .270, his obp will be around Rickie's 2013 obp of.309. Given Scooter's numbers have decline with every promotion, we may soon pine for 2012 when our 2B produced a .728 OPS, with 29 doubles, 21 hrs, and 74 walks. fwiw, Rickie hit 240/324/425 in his last 60 games in 2013. Brewer fans will declare Scooter the greatest 2B in history if he puts up those numbers in 2014.
  15. The 8 consecutive seasons before Suppan signed with the Brewers he averaged 32+ starts, 200+ innings and better than league average ERA (ERA+106). The Brewers were looking for a durable mid rotation guy who could give them a chance to win. They had young up and coming stars and wanted to win for the fans immediately. I'm not saying it was a great signing, but I can the logic behind it wasn't terrible. This isn't anywhere close to the top of any Worst Free Agent Signings Ever list.
  16. Weeks is right at the age where Molitor became healthy and put up big numbers. Could Rickie end up in AL as a mostly DH and have a brilliant 3rd act?
  17. Don Mattingly had 6 good seasons (years 2-7) and was average after that. He only had 4 seasons where his slugging was over .500. He was a dominant, impact player for his first few years in the league, but faded fast and hard, only average or below hitter for a 1B after that 6 year run. He averaged 40 doubles and 20 hrs a year for his career. He only played 14 years and if he wasn't a Yankee he would never have been considered for the HOF. We probably all agree Fred McGriff deserves to be in, but we certainly don't see the media pining for him like they do for Mattingly. Few consider Keith Hernandez, John Olerud, or even Kent Hrbek HOF'ers, but they had equally productive careers and very good peak seasons as well.
  18. If I didn't really like my signature, I'd change to this in a heartbeat. Kudos! Thank you! I like you sig fine and think you should keep it.
  19. I didn't know people still watched ESPN. Especially if you are baseball fan. MLB network is so much better. I quite watching Baseball Tonight and Sportscenter 15 years ago. But then, I'm not really an NBA fan and only a casual NFL fan. And I'm not under 25. And I don't think I'm stupid. So that pretty much leaves me out of their demographic.
  20. Earl Weaver: "If you play for one run, that's all you'll get." I am sick and tire of "NL style" baseball....
  21. Like Gomez he had started with 3 fantastic months. Then both regressed. Fans and press remember early season performance, so these guys are lucky in that regard.
  22. Our manager is probably the worst manager ever in bullpen/pitcher management. Ron "wait till he gives up the lead then replace" Roenicke.
  23. I understand that is the excuse they are using, but they have other options. Bianchi and Halton come to mind; younger players who may actually develop into useful cheap bench players.
  24. Sorry, I wasn't clear. "In these parts" refers to where I live in Western Wi.
  25. Of the 13 Brewers with at least 100 PA, Rickie's OBP (321)ranks 7th. Everyone in these parts hates Rickie Weeks. Hates him. But YuniB? He gets a pass. His last 67 games he's batting 176/208/279. The available options to replace Weeks at 2B won't hit for a .321 OBP, but anyone would be an improvement over YuniB at 3B.
