  1. I suspect your scenario is how it will play out.
  2. Minor league deal only. If he's not in Milwaukee by say, May 30th, he can declare free agency.
  3. Most metrics put it like this: Hardy=above average ss. Escobar=excellent ss. The difference between above average defense and excellent defense is nearly negligible in terms of wins. Therefore it's down to offensive differences. This isn't even close. Hardy is vastly superior. If the Brewers are in the playoff hunt at the deadline they should trade Escobar in a package for a pitcher. I'd like to see the future of the team built around Braun, Hardy, Gallardo, Parra, and possible Weeks. Out of the current group of young "stars" in Milwaukee, Hart is the most replaceable. If they have to break up this group eventually, he and Prince seem the most likely to go.
  4. I think mcnaulty21 has it down. This morning's paper quotes Macha saying Counsell is ahead of Lamb. That sounds like an either/or situation to me. Macha also says he expects Hall to be ready by Opening Day.
  5. Of course this assumes Macha will run the team like Yost, with the same lineup every day regardless of circumstance. I realize Macha has supposedly said he's not a platoon guy, but if 3B does go as a platoon situation, then Bill Hall will be sitting down most games. That's your right handed power bat on the bench. I am hopeful Macha is not Yost 2.0. A good manager rarely uses the same lineup everyday. It's conceivable there will be at least two lefty's in the lineup many days against righty pitching, with Macha rotating the lefty bench in and out. That puts a righty on the bench for PH.
  6. I'm going to guess if Kendall goes down Rivera takes over and Vinny comes up. Vinny comes up if Rivera goes down too. This seems most logical, although he would have to be added to the 40 man roster which could be problematic.
  7. I think Corey Hart knew all last September he was only going to see sliders on the outside of the plate. The knowledge didn't seem to help him much.
  8. But as Ned showed us last year, the Brewers only need ONE catcher!
  9. I think that gray stone facade is bland. Every building in DC is like this....makes for a colorless, emotionless landscape. Give me brick any day. What's with the guitars hanging from the ceiling? Are the Yankees the Center of Rock Roll too?
  10. As a LF'er Braun had a .888 OPS. Jenkins matched or beat that 4 years.
  11. I'm a little stunned no one has mentioned Geoff Jenkins. He was a great corner outfielder for his first 6-7 seasons, had 3 .900+OPS seasons, one .888, and 4 others right around .800.
  12. Another sign of Doug's cleverness. Sign an injured starter for depth. That way your established pitchers stay healthy. Brilliant!
  13. Maybe somebody like Al Gore could invent something like this...
  14. I should be so lucky to have his problems. This is just another example of the rich being completely out of touch with how real people live their lives. When he says he only has $13 in his pocket he doesn't mean he's broke. When I say I only have $13 in my pocket it often means that's all I got until payday. Eyre is signed to a $2 million major league contract. Even if he's cut before opening day, the Phillies will still owe him a few hundred thousands bucks for Spring Training. He could go into any federally insured bank in the country and get line of credit loan or some sort term deal for a few hundred grand to "tide him over", though his "difficult time". You'll be fine, Scott. Sheesh!
  15. They are televising two spring training games live tomorrow. That's pretty cool.
  16. this is what I got too. I don't mind an offer to buy tickets at half price. Loge diamond box for $22? Not too shabby. Bernie's Terrace Reserve for $4.
  17. I got the rejection too. However, they did invite me to buy tickets for the Reds' series April 13-15 for half price!
  18. It's more than I'd pay for him, but he is a good player, has been pretty healthy the last couple years, is adored by the fans, and Peter Angelos' favorite player of non Greek heritage. It's really a 5 year deal since it doesn't kick in until 2010. I think he should stay a good player for the next 3 seasons, so even if he's not much the last two seasons, the fans won't mind. But maybe the best reason to sign him is there is no one in the organization to replace him. It's like the Mora situation several years ago. The Orioles simply don't have any position prospects. At least non that are not named Wieters. For this reason they'll probably pick up Mora's option for 2010 if he anywhere near average this year.
  19. I'm still a little confused that they had to "sign" him for this year. Didn't the fact they picked him up after he'd been released mean they automatically had him for the duration of the contract if they wanted him?
  20. Looking back that was just a swell move by Doug. Koskie was a perfect fit at the time. It's too bad for him and the Brewers that he had such a serious injury. Hopefully he'll be fully healthy going forward, regardless if he ever plays baseball again.
  21. Honestly, the world is full of attractive females. So why's so hard to find one who can actually do their job? Trenni was perfect.
  22. I think it's a waste of time. I'd rather MLB network carried winter ball games in the future. WBC is silly and gets in the way of MLB season.
  23. Honestly, who is the guy that wrote that? His name sounds fake. Clearly he is an idiot.
  24. I am fine with this. (that's a relief, eh Doug?) I think of it as he's working out with the team. If they have a place for him on the 25 roster on Opening Day he sticks around. If not, I bet they've agreed to DFA him so he can catch on with another club.
  25. Does your cable give you MLB Network? They will carry 26 games this year, one a week I guess, but no schedule has been published.
