  1. I have been on a recent statistic binge. I realize OPS is a solid way to judge overall hitting- so I get its recent appeal. However, wouldn't a cleaner way of articulating it be, (TB + BB) divided by ABs instead of murking it up by essentially adding BA twice and thus slightly watering down power hitting? I might call it: Hitters Avg. So for instance 2009 #s would be: HA OPSFielder- .789 vs 1.014 Braun- .641 vs .937Cameron- .590 vs .795Lopez- .518 vs .810 (full year)Kendall- .407 vs .636 Notice, that Lopez' OPS is higher than Cameron's, but is vice versa on the newstat. Also, how OPS really helps Braun, whose power numbers were down last year, but whose batting avg. was higher. I am curious to know your opinions as i think this is a superior way to measure overall hitting- especially ranking cleanup hitters- and know this site to be full of knowledgeable stat analysis.
  2. Is anyone else amazed that Marco Scutaro is leading the MLB in runs scored and has an OBP 120 points higher than his BA (like .411)? Incredible. Looks like he's enjoying the switch to SS as well.

  4. I post this just about every year- something i do for fun. The current All-Brewer Alumni Team. Just to see how the ghosts would stack up against the current Brewer roster. This year, would be a great 7 game series. But I think I'd give it to our current core. What do you think? and would you change the roster? STARTERS SS- Marco Scutaro 2B- Mark Loretta CF- Laynce Nix LF- El Caballo RF- Nelson Cruz 3B- Russell Branyan 1B- Lyle Overbay C- Chris Coste RESERVES OF- Gary Sheffield OF- Gabe Gross OF- Matt LaPorta 1B- Matt Stairs 2B- Ron Belliard C- Henry Blanco STARTING PITCHERS CC Sabathia Ben Sheets Doug Davis Jorge De La Rosa Dana Eveland RELIEVERS Francisco Cordero- © Scott Linebrink Brian Shouse Jeff Bennett Grant Balfour Joe Thatcher
  5. who's the best defensively?
  6. a quick revisit to the 2005 draft- three 3B went in the top 5- Alex Gordon was #2, Ryan Zimmerman was #4, and Ryan Braun was selected #5. Who got the best player? Which of the three would you choose at this point, to be on your team for the next 10 years?
  7. thanks guys. you are right, there would be some things to work out. especially as you mentioned, from the dearth of legitimate prospects we've sent away. However, regardless if the prospect criteria is expanded, which could be a solution, it would still be interesting to rate the top alumni players on a prospect level. The power 50 would be used to have a basis of relativity to how they actually rank in relation to a prospect list. anyway, i appreciate you looking at it, and as always, thanks for Brewerfan.
  8. I would like to see a permanent thread or link of an occasionally updated "Alumni Power 10" list. I appreciate the alumni thread, and the links to check up on x-brewers and farmhands. however, i wonder about how the "prospects" that we've given up are faring- if we should have/shouldn't have given them up and if any would be rated on your Power 50 if still in the system. so for only example- even though some of these players may not qualify- something like this. Alumini Power 10 -- [P50] 1. Nelson Cruz- OF -- [1] 2. Dana Eveland- SP -- [7] 3. Ben Hendrickson- SP -- [15] 4. David Krynzel- OF -- [21] 5. Jorge De la Rosa- SP -- [23] 6. Ty Taubenheim- SP -- [29] 7. Enrique Cruz- 3B -- [37] 8. Matt Childers- RP -- [49] 9. Kennard Bibbs- OF 10. Joe Valentine- RP This would be another tool to help us gauge the improvement or depletion of our farm system. (killed emoticon that accidentally appeared due to ezBoard glitch --1992casey
