  1. We've experienced a lot of the broadcast teams around the league, and many of them are boring to listen to. The Reds team is among the worst; at the moment, I don't remember what the Marlins team is like. There are more than a few broadcasters out there, for various teams, who show little to no emotion at all, even when their team is doing something totally amazing/wonderful/awesome/etc.
  2. Jon Miller is proving that he's horrible. His five or so mistakes, and the Cardinals love-fest most of the broadcast.
  3. I've been trying to think of who hasn't re-appeared yet, including Walt. I also thought last night's episode had a lot more inter-connectedness between the two realities than any of the other episodes this season.
  4. I wouldn't either, but the article I read Friday said the movie will not be a prequel.
  5. I don't think I would have guessed that person as a possible mole. But I guess that's part of the fun of watching 24. On a side note, I reminisced with my husband during tonight's episode about how much we used to detest Chloe--she's much more fun to watch now.
  6. I've lived in Arizona for 16 years, and never been to California, even though it's an easy drive to get there.
  7. Sunday: Makeover Home Edition, Housewives Monday: 24, Big Bang, CSI Miami, Heroes Tuesday: Lost Wednesday: Criminal Minds, CSI New York, Top Chef Thursday: CSI, Grey's, Private Practice, Bones Friday and Saturday: nothing I'm also slowly catching up on the Office. I'm wishing I was caught up, though, having seen commercials for next week, which I won't spoil for those who don't want to know what's coming (like my husband).
  8. In Egyptian mythology, the current pharaoh was often the image used for Ra. And as colbyjack said, the Egyptian myths can be a little more...strange, I guess, for want of a better word. They're definitely different from the Greek and Roman myths.
  9. I've never taken a class in mythology, but I would if I could, just because I enjoy the topic so much. I've always enjoyed reading the myths, especially Greek, Roman, and Egyptian.
  10. I was surprised to see no one had started the usual holiday good wishes thread, so let me start it off by wishing everyone an enjoyable Thanksgiving. May you all eat just enough to feel satisfied, but not so much that your clothes become uncomfortably snug. And safe travels to anyone traveling this weekend.
  11. For me, it's Big Bang Theory. I haven't enjoyed a sitcom this much in a long time, and the previews make me laugh, too. Also, CSI: Miami and Heroes (both via the Tivo).
  12. If you can't have fun, no matter what your job is, you're in the wrong job. It doesn't do any good to stay serious and straight-laced all the time. Lighter moments can help relieve stress. (As a teacher, I live this every day.)
  13. Hawing, I read your post without realizing it was you, so I totally missed your new avatar. I have a feeling my husband will add that picture to his plethora of desktop wallpapers. Heck, it may even replace his current wallpaper of us in Alaska, at least for a little while. But I'm okay with that.
  14. I found it to be a terrific way to celebrate a terrific game. Let the Cardinals belly-ache--we won a great game and celebrated in a unique way. (Both Quick Pitch and Baseball Tonight liked it, too, not that their opinions matter.)
  15. Let's see...Murdoc (MacGyver), Ben Linus (Lost), Cruella DeVille (101 Dalmatians), the Sleestaks (Land of the Lost--okay, not really villains, but they scared the you know what out of me), and I'm sure there are others that I can't think of right now.
  16. We are in Kingman, KUSD 20.
  17. Our first day is in the books, and I didn't hear of any major problems today. Lots of little things, but that's part of the start of the new year. For those of you finishing your education (whatever that may mean), good luck, and enjoy your final year. For the new teachers among us, good luck. The first year can be tough, it can be pretty good (mine was tough), and the second year may be the opposite (my second year is still one of my best, and I'm starting my 16th). If you can stick it out, it can be and usually is very rewarding.
  18. I don't think it's that time yet in Wisconsin, but, here in Arizona, schools are getting ready to start the new year. My husband and I are already back at work (we're both teachers), and we greet the students Thursday morning. I was curious, since my husband is rather grumpy about school starting, what others remember about going back to school. Did you look forward to the first day? Did you dread it? Those of you with school age children, are you like the parents in the Staples commercial of a few years ago, dancing down the aisles loading up the cart with school supplies, while the children follow sullenly behind?
  19. As the holiday weekend begins, here's wishing and hoping that everyone has a safe and fun weekend. Anyone with big plans? We leave for Alaska on the 4th.
  20. For most of the year, in Arizona, evap coolers are great. They cool quickly and quietly, and they can make your room/house (I lived in a mobile home) extremely cold (I found that out the hard way, having left it on overnight shortly after I moved to Arizona). The only time it didn't work was during our monsoon season, when humidity climbed above 20% daily. In the late afternoon/early evening during monsoon season, I was more comfortable outside in the shade than I was in my house. If you're looking at getting an evap cooler anywhere but the dry climate of the desert, I would not recommend it.
  21. I made a drive to K-mart yesterday, which isn't very far. But I discovered it's shorter than "Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who.
  22. thanks to my sister for this one--I was talking about this thread with her, and she sent me this gem
  23. If I'm remembering my Greek mythology, Ulysses is waylaid by the sirens or Circe, which is why his journey home takes even longer, allowing usurpers to his throne to try to move in. (At least, that's what I remember from the Wishbone version on PBS a few years ago.)
  24. Jamie, I don't know if I should tell you or not, but I support the squirrels. However, my mom and sister have the same problems as you--squirrels stealing seed, and getting the suet blocks during the winter out of their wire cages/holders. At the very least, I found your thread "entertaining", shall we say?
  25. I had one today--thirty minutes of study hall time at the end of the day, he's already behind, especially in math, and he spends his time drawing. I ask him why--his reply: "I don't like math." But at the same time, he won't come to me for help. (Just another example of the whiney, give-up attitude I've dealt with for most of the year.)
