  1. I would hate to see him go, but I think that's the nature of the game these days. You don't see guys staying with one team for their entire careers any more. That being said, he also strikes me as the kind of guy who would stay in one place regardless of other offers. I see him as the kind of player who believes that loyalty is a priority.
  2. I have a hard time with the heat, but, like my husband said, you learn to adapt. When I moved here 14 years ago, I didn't think I'd be here that long, but here I am. I'll always love Wisconsin, and I miss it a lot (especially around Christmas, when I wish for snow), but I also love Arizona. If we ever did move back, I'd probably miss Arizona like I miss Wisconsin.
  3. My husband and I usually watch the AFI top whatevers. We keep track of the number of movies on the list that we've actually seen. Sometimes we've seen many, sometimes hardly any. We've also used the lists as a source for ideas for movies to see.
  4. It is aggressive, fairly large-bodied, and has a complex venom composed of hemolytic and neurotoxic elements. It is responsible for several deaths each year, including in recent years a prominent snake toxin expert. This snake should be avoided. Some of the previous posts had me wondering, so I did a little research on Mohave greens.
  5. They'll den together for the winter while they hibernate. Mating is also a part of it. My sister (who visits brewerfan as a guest) emailed me wondering if I had taken the pictures myself. I'm impressed by the photos, and impressed by the number of snakes, but I wouldn't get anywhere near one, let alone that many. By the way, they are Mohave Greens, which many say are more dangerous than western diamondbacks.
  6. I've heard of dens like this, but only ever saw them in movies. These were taken near a subdivision on the east side of Kingman. Just a little bit freaky. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/ATT00058.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/ATT00061.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/ATT00064.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/ATT00067.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/ATT00070.jpg
  7. Wow. The players were in tears--me too, as I read this. Again, wow.
  8. Watched the whole thing while I graded papers and worked on lesson plans. Without work-related issues, I might have spent some time on my latest scrapbooking project. However, as many have already posted, it's often hard to turn away, even when the game is so bad. Being a fan for 31 years (this year), it's hard to not watch--good, bad, or otherwise.
  9. I tried Zyrtec today for the first time, after taking generic Benadryl for quite some time; I had taken Allegra before that, which worked really well, but our insurance stopped covering it. Today is the best I've been in a while as far as allergies go--so far, I give Zyrtec the thumbs up for allergy relief.
  10. We experienced one in northwestern Arizona about 7-8 years ago, also during the night/early morning. One of the freakiest things I've ever experienced, and it made me glad I don't live in California.
  11. If you are truly passionate about any career, there is no age limit. I agree with some of the previous posts--if you can, spend time with teachers, maybe as a guest for the day kind of thing. Keep in mind that what you see during your visit won't necessarily be what you would see on a daily basis. Be prepared to move, maybe even out of state, to find a job, should you move forward with this. I was born and raised in the Fox Cities, but I applied throughout Wisconsin and out of state. I spent a year as a sub, and was getting ready for a second year of subbing, when I received a call from Arizona. I've been here ever since (14 years). I would still like to move back some day, but I'm realistic enough to know that may never happen. However, I've been very lucky. For the most part, I've enjoyed my time here, mostly because I enjoy teaching. Whatever you decide, remember there will be good days and bad. But if you enjoy it, the good will outweigh the bad. Good Luck!
  12. When the drive to work in the morning is MLB on XM, instead of music.
  13. I don't know if anyone else here has read it, but tonight felt very much like The Time Traveler's Wife. The main character in that book traveled back and forth through time, experiencing a wide variety of things, like meeting himself as a young boy. Very bizarre, kind of creepy (the episode), but very interesting.
  14. The pre-race was extra long because it's the 50th running of Daytona. I liked seeing the "parade" of cars, showing what race cars have looked like during the past 50 years. And yes, I'm watching the race, although not steadily. I did some school work, looking up every so often to see what was happening.
  15. Scarlett: "Rhett, where shall I go, what shall I do?" Rhett: "Frankly my dear, I don't know. What do you like to do? Do you have any skills? Do you like to work with your hands?"
  16. the best time to post if you have a baby might be when you are up with the new baby in the middle of the night, don't you think?
  17. Do the D-backs count as an out-of-state team if I'm a cheesehead by birth, but now live in Arizona? I moved here four years before the D-backs premiered, and like the team a lot. Other "favorites"--anyone who beats the Yankees (yay Cleveland!), the Arizona teams, especially colleges (kind of a home-state fan by circumstance and length of time here), and that's about it, I guess.
  18. There are certain players that stand out, not because they do awful things off the field, but because they are steady, classy people on and off the field. For me, Luis Gonzalez (the former D-Back), and now Geoff Jenkins, stand out as two of the classiest guys I've ever seen play the game (and I've seen a lot of players come and go). If he isn't a Brewer next year, I will miss him, and I will gladly cheer for him, no matter where he ends up--okay, maybe not as a Cub http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif .
  19. Pogokat, glad to know Hammy continues to bring good feelings.
  20. Seeing young talent gain some much-needed experience, and having fun doing it.
  21. I wish my husband and I could be there, to cheer the Brewers in the final game of the season and show our appreciation. (My dad and sister will be there.) I'll be disappointed if anyone boos tomorrow, too. There were a lot of good things to come out of this season, despite the collapse (and we weren't the only team to collapse, remember). The emotional roller coaster this week has been difficult to deal with at times, but, like my husband told me this week, it's nice to feel these emotions at this point of the season. I'd rather feel like this now, than have the feeling of okay, whatever, that has settled in by the all-star break the past few years. If we had the tickets, and could get to the game, we'd be there, not sitting home in "protest" of the Brewers' collapse.
  22. It's frustrating, nerve-wracking, anxiety-inducing, etc., but I'll second/third/whatevereth a lot of others--it's nice to have these feelings for a change, regardless of the outcome. Go Brewers!
  23. I feel kind of old, since so many who've posted were in school six years ago. I was getting ready for work, and heard bits and pieces on the radio that morning. It didn't totally sink in until I got to school, and my colleagues filled in some of the gaps, and I saw some of the early news coverage. It was tough to get through that day. That night, my husband and I watched a lot of the news coverage, and I talked to my dad on the phone; he was having a hard time dealing with the events, and I think it helped both of us to talk about it. I got to a point, though, that I needed a break from the news, so I put my copy of Disney's Aristocats in the VCR. I think every generation has at least one event where people ask later, "Where were you when...?" For me, this is the second major event. The first was the Challenger disaster; I was in high school, and it was much the same thing as others have posted. TVs set up throughout the school, and more news watching than actual class work. TooLiveBrew, the picture you posted is fantastic. Thank you for that.
  24. I'm usually willing to see a movie based on a novel, and I will likely see Kite Runner at some point. I am curious to see how this novel will translate to the big screen.
