  1. My comment goes along the lines with Liz's. I've gone to quite a few games with my dad this year and he works 80 hours per week in the summer as an Agricultural Manager. He manages over 10,000 acres of Sweet Corn and Peas so time is scarce for him in the summer, but we did get to the baseball park and he would never go unless the Brewers were good. So thank goodness for the Brewers being good because when we saw C.C. pitch against the Reds and he hit that home run, I was there with my dad. I bought him a C.C. T-Shirt and I'll remember that day for the rest of my life. Good job, Brewers this year and let's hope this is a start to many playoff years.
  2. http://milwaukee.brewers....807223176937&c_id=mil This wasn't the top play of the year but it was among the best. http://milwaukee.brewers....805092672202&c_id=mil I liked this one as well.
  3. If Melvin does indeed go and it sounds like it's a decent possibility, one possible replacement could be Pat Gillick. He seems all but gone from the Phillies organizations. Melvin was interviewed by Homer True earlier this week and he stated how he loves rebuilidng teams and getting them to playoff position and he said he would love to come back but it was up to Mark. It sure seems like Melvin might want to move on but we will find out very soon. If I had to choose between Gillick and Jack Z, my vote would be for Jack Z.
  4. I didn't even bring up 2B either. You could argue that the 2B position has greatly improved from a power perspective in the last 30 years as well. We should refer back to this thread when people bring up this issue. Great stuff.
  5. CC could easily turn into the next Livan Hernandez so I'd look out in giving him 7 years.
  6. The SS, Catcher and Pitcher were 3 automatic outs for Spahn. That just doesn't happen anymore in today's game. If JJ Hardy hit like he does now in Spahn's age, he'd be a sure fire hall of famer.
  7. We need a manager that will pinch hit his light hitting catcher late in the game.
  8. Well as you saw with Manny Parra, young pitchers do wear down so a lot of them can't go 200 innings so I don't see what your point is. Sure in the dead ball era, guys like Spahn could put up 300 plus inning seasons, but it can't be done today with the millions of dollars on the line and the much improved hitters of our day.
  9. The thing is that he didn't pitch well in that game at all. He got very lucky that a lot of hard hit balls were right to his defense and lot of balls went to the warning track. I don't know how Sveum couldn't see that.
  10. Lots of high salary players and bad contracts. The Farm system is horrible too. I disagree and think they will keep spending. Houston is a huge baseball market so they should be able to go out and get Sheets and some more pitching to make them one of the favorites in the NL Central next year.
  11. This team is just loaded with pitching with Lackey, Saunders, Santana, Weaver and Escobar. This would be the perfect team to trade with and try to pry away a guy like Nick Adenhart or one of their other top pitching prospects and flaunt them Prince if they lose Texiera.
  12. Isn't their farm system among the best in baseball?
  13. The ESPN Insider article said that a big reason to keep CC is that he puts people in the seats. Mark Attanasio might break the bank just for that reason as attendance went up hugely after he came to Milwaukee.
  14. No. I was referring to that Bush was having a horrible year until he turned it around.
  15. I lost my voice during Saturday's game so I had to resort to the thundersticks to make my noise, but it just wasn't the same on Sunday overall. It must have been the noon start and Jeff Suppan's horridness.
  16. There are few things I can guarantee, but one thing I can is DeFelice will not be in our rotation next year. 32 year old journey men are for bottom feeders. His upside is a long relief man, and I'd be fine if he filled that spot. The reason our front office values velocity is because it's one of the most important aspects of pitching.
  17. Bush came on and turned a horrible year into a pretty darn good one, but he can't start next year like he did this year or the Brewers won't be going very far. We need the good Dave Bush to show up for the whole 2009. It's amazing what kind of year he could have had if he wouldn't have carried a 6 ERA into June.
  18. This is why we have to go the trade route this offseason for an extra pitcher. We can be overpaying for these useless Suppan types on the Free Agent market.
  19. Could Jeffress possibly be called up late next year? That would sure be a boost if we needed it.
  20. Well since Parra went 166 innings this year and even more if you count the playoffs, he should be good to go for 190 innings if he stays healthy. And Gallardo did throw 180+ innings last year if you count Nashville so you'd think they would both be good to go to approach 200 innings, but how does not pitching this year for Gallardo hurt his chances? Does it help his chances because it keeps his arm fresh? Those are some interesting questions.
  21. I just can't see this. He's a nice long man and everything but he wouldn't be able to make it more than 2 times through the order with the minus stuff that he has. I could see Villanueva getting another shot, but he's starting to mold nicely as a bullpen guy.
  22. I think one of these two players will be replacing Corey Hart in RF in the next 2 years. If I had to guess, I'd say Gillespie. I'd go year to year with Hart in arbitration and give one of these guys a shot in 2010 and see what they've got.
  23. I think the answer to this question is the key to the Brewers success next year. Can they get close to 200 innings out of their 2 best pitchers? It's going to be tough for Gallardo considering he didn't pitch much this year and it will be equally tough for Parra. Neither have shown they can do this and because of this it will be imperative to get a front of the line starter for next years team to go with those 2. Right now we have the following options in house for the rotation next year: Gallardo Parra Bush Suppan McClung We are definitely going to need more than that so look for one or more of Prince, Hardy or Weeks to be traded for some pitching because signing a free agent pitcher nowadays is just stupid as shown in the Jeff Suppan deal. All you end up doing is overpaying. Your guys thoughts?
  24. Maybe Lou Pinella should have rested his players more in the Brewers series. hahahahahaha!
