  1. The way I understand it is if a player is non tendered, any team can sign them.
  2. Could Dave Bush be the next one shown the door? MLBTradeRumors has Bushie as a non tender candidate.
  3. I'd rather have Gerut as my everyday CF.
  4. If TLR doesn't walk Prince in his last PA of the season ruining karma in the process, Holliday doesn't make that error. I'm convinced of that.
  5. I would too. Throw right at his head and hope he's out for the playoffs David Wright style.
  6. I'd take Ricarrdi as my GM anyday.
  7. Melvin might just be defending his move of acquiring Looper, but inside he knows it was a mistake. Half of what Melvin says to the media is just posturing so I wouldn't read into it too much.
  8. I would love to see Lopez in a Brewers uniform next year. Depth is a great thing to have and trading chips are a great thing to have as well. If we could turn some combination of Weeks/Lopez/Hart/Hardy into a #3 type starter, the Brewers could be back into contention next year. That will be easier said than done, though. I think Javier Lopez would be a guy to target in the offseason. I wonder if Gamel, Lopez, and Hart would be enough because it looks like the Braves want offense in return if they trade him.
  9. Raul Ibanez would have looked good in a Cubs uniform this year for the lovable losers. Oops.
  10. If the team resigns Jason Kendall, I am not renewing my season tickets next year. Regarding Gerut, I'd be perfectly fine with him as my everyday CF. Fangraphs has him as +3.5 runs above average defensively and with regular at bats, his bat could be valuable. He does have an 800 OPS season on his track record and there's no reason to believe that he won't hit like that next year for the Brewers. He's also a left handed bat which is very nice to have in our right handed dominant lineup. I'd prolly let Cameron walk and thank him for his great service to our team, but I don't think the price will be right to bring back the aging, declining center fielder.
  11. I went the last 2 years, but I think I'm going to end that streak in 2010. I've been to antsy to get the skis out and take a trip to Colorado. Maybe next year for me, but you guys will have a great time and do some scouting for me. Nothing is better than baseball and warm weather after a long winter.
  12. Roger that, Peavey. Perhaps the Brewer fan base that was calling for Yost's head will learn a lesson a take a step forward in evaluating current/future managers.
  13. It has been enjoyable to read this thread and the comments from people who didn't have one good thing to say about Ned Yost last year actually giving him some props because I was considered one of the biggest idiots on the boards for supporting Ned Yost one year ago and respecting his managing ability. It almost seems like I knew what I was talking about. Who knows though. None of us will because Doug decide to put the blame of a slump onto Ned by giving him the Ax. Did the change of a manager with 12 games to go get us into the playoffs, though? I'd say no, but I'm sure some people will play devils advocate and say yes. The Counting Crows sang a good song. It went something along the lines of, "You Don't know what you got until it's gone". Case and point with Ned Yost.
  14. I agree with TheCrew07, and I'd be all for trading bats like Hardy, Prince, Gamel, and anyone not named Braun for pitching this offseason. It makes sense because of his underlying point: In today's MLB atmosphere, it is easier to fill an offensive hole on a team than it is to fill a starting pitching hole. Example: Jack Z had a major hole at 1B this year. What did he do? He cheaply signed Russell Branyan who was very serviceable for the Mariners this year. It's much more difficult for that to happen with starting pitching deficiencies.
  15. I don't buy into the home/road splits for Andrus. What major advantage does Texas's ball park give hitters? The answer to that is power. Andrus hit 6 lousy home runs and 3 of them came on the road so far this year so your supposed argument that home ball park is inflating Andrus's numbers to me is a weak one.
  16. How would you guys compare Escobar to Elvis Andrus of the Texas Rangers? He has looked very good as their starting SS this year without showing power and using his defense and speed tools to help the Rangers win games. I don't think it's unrealistic that Escobar has an Andrus type rookie year in 2010 and that would be perfectly fine by me and as a matter of fact my preference for next season. The girly Brewer fans will have to find somebody else to drool over. Bye Hardy.
  17. I agree with a lot of the points above, but let's not forget to mention luck in the equation. There are so many luck based factors to winning a championship in baseball from maintaining health or in the Cardinals case having a pitcher (Chris Carpenter) come off the DL after being dormant for 2 years turning into a Cy Young winner (If that isn't luck than what is?), or getting serviceable years out of journeymen pitchers like Todd Wellenmeyer, Kyle Lohse, Jeff Suppan, Braden Looper, and the list goes on. Other lucky events in the Cards season include their bullpen which was about as poor as could be last year with more blown saves than the Badger hockey goaltender last year, but then 2009 comes around and the bullpen doesn't have many major changes, and Ryan Franklin turns into a Mariano Rivera look a like. Let's give credit where credit is due, though. Their front office has realized that things have come together this year and they added the necessary pieces (DeRosa and Holliday) to move on to the next level, but this team hasn't been short of very good luck in this decade.
  18. Good thing the Brewers traded Fielder after his down 2008! Imagine having to deal with his 2009.... I know. Our pitching might have been better than last in the NL. By the way, I was in favor of trading Fielder last off season, and I'll admit that it might not have been the best decision, but he's going to need to be flipped for pitching at some point. I'd still be in favor of trading him this off season for pitching unless a long term deal is realistic.
  19. I was at the TRats game on Monday to see Lawrie. Glad I got a chance to see him in Wisconsin while I did. Next stop, Milwaukee! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. This year? That is a valid argument. It might just be a career year though because he wasn't this good last year or in any previous year. He picked a good time to bust out though because he's going to get paid a lot of money from a large market team after 2010.
  21. I like that you are thinking outside the box with your idea, but I'm not sure that moving Coffey to the rotation would be much help to the poor Brewers starting pitching this season. It would also take more than a month to stretch him out to a point where he'd be able to go more than 4 innings.
  22. When it becomes real in 3 years can I bring back this thread? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. Unfortunately I already feel that is the case If you want to take the pessimistic approach, feel free, but I think the next wave is going to salvage the reputation of the Brewer Scouting department on pitching and bring on big things to our Big League pitching staff in 2011 and 2012. There's too much potential/velocity/stuff from these pitchers that at least some of them will pan out. Even if 50% of our top 10 prospects end up in our rotation at some point, that would be a major success. Can you not see that in this group? Peralta Rogers Arnett Frederickson Scarpetta Jeffress Braddock Butler Jones Periard I might have even forgotten some because I came up with that list off the top of my head, but I'd say it's a safe bet that 5+ of these pitchers end up in our rotation and at least 1 or 2 of them turn into an ace.
