  1. I agree that the White Sox overpaid big time. Kenny Williams is probably looking for ticket sales/revenue and sees that the AL Central is wide open this year because none of the teams are separating themselves from the rest of the division. It could take the White Sox to the playoffs as they are 5.5 games out, but I still agree that it really mortgages the future and the switch to the AL is at least .25 ERA if not worse on Peavy's projections.
  2. Haha to the Cubs fans if this goes through. Don't stop believing though! Peavy going to the Brewers was a pipe dream anyways so this is a nice consolation prize if Peavy gives his rubber stamp.
  3. Actually the number one pinch hitter is Mat Gamel or whoever is not on the playing side of the platoon on a given night.
  4. Nothing really exciting here. A decent bat off the bench and a guy who can play corner OF. Doesn't have much power, while his OBP was nothing special for the last 2 years. He does have 800 OPS upside if he gets regular AB's, but we don't want that to happen as that means we had a key injury. He's also 34 years old so the decline is a coming. Nothing exciting, but usually the 25th man on a roster isn't.
  5. If Joe Morgan made a similar decision that John Madden has recently made (retirement), That would be getting rid of 2 awful announcers in 2 of my many favorite sports. It's great to dream, but I am satisfied that at least Madden is gone. Thinking that Joe Morgan would leave the baseball announcing business is just pure greed on my part because he's shown nothing but grit as an ESPN announcer.
  6. It makes sense to shop Fielder in the offseason or 2010 trading deadline to an AL team with a pitching surplus. Of course the Rays come to mind first, but other teams could fit the mold. Perhaps the Jays would offer Halladay type package or the Royals would offer a Greinke type package. Neither probably will happen, but that is the type of demand that the Brewers need to put forward for a top shelf bat like Prince Fielder. That will give us a chance to retool for 2010, 11, and beyond.
  7. Well if we make the playoffs and Macha decides to insert him into the 3 man rotation due to his grittiness/knows how to win games/playoff experience/[insert buzz word here], I will be ticked.
  8. It's refreshing to know that even though Soup's FIP is that high, that we actually have a good enough defense again to help him out a bit in the field. Suppan has a few lucky streaks here and there where he strands a lot of runners and he's in one of those right now. He'll be back to his usual crappiness soon in a park near you.
  9. I didn't see a thread on this, but this is an interesting move considering Lawrie was also moved to 2B. It's great to have depth at every position though so I have no problem with it, but maybe the club is realizing that they might not be able to afford Weeks if his career breaks out and creating depth at the position would be a good contingency plan 2-3 years down the road.
  10. I think the Quality Start stat is a good gauge for pitchers in terms of eating innings and a pitcher keeping a team in the game, but other than that, I wouldn't measure a pitcher's value too much off of the statistic. Although a 4.50 ERA does have a lot of value in today's game. That could be the equivalent to a #3/4 type starter.
  11. LaRussa is so smart that he drinks and drives and falls asleep at traffic lights in the process. A true genius.
  12. What did he do to turn them into bad pitchers to start the season?
  13. I like it when people bring back threads like this to show overreaction. Castro could end up being a fine pitching coach, or he could end up being a bad one. Whether that actually affects our Team ERA by a small margin or not is another debate, but thanks, Ender for bringing back this thread.
  14. If it helps team revenue by making single game tickets 1/2 off, count me in. I support anything that allows us to keep our upcoming free agents, lock down our young players to long term contracts, and possibly sign other free agents.
  15. Scott Boras would be proud of this guy. I'm sure he's looking into recruiting him.
  16. I'm glad he's putting the brakes on the running game. It's not generating much success and the risk of getting thrown out with all of the power that we have on this team is not worth it.
  17. I can't see a reason why we wouldn't start Gamel this afternoon against the tough righty, Josh Johnson. If we have him up here, let's use him.
  18. If Cain comes back after his injury and is productive for the remaining part of this season, I'd have no problem with him being our everyday CF next year. He'd play good defense and maybe put up a mid 700's OPS. That would be an optimistic outlook, but if anything, it would give him a year of experience in the big leagues on a team that might have to do some rebuilding anyways. I'd definitely look into trading Hardy if we can bring back a high quality CF or SP. It isn't inconceivable, though, that we could have 3 rookies as everyday players next year so it might be a rough year.
  19. If you're looking to take your kids to a game, Sunday games are the best to go to. The crowd is a lot more laid back and more family like on Sundays. Friday and Saturday games get pretty wild with lots of drunkedness and foul language. Weekday afternoon games are also good games to go to because they are pretty laid back as well.
  20. No, but he'd hit right handed pitching a lot better. We all know Hall will regress back to the mean as well.
  21. Gamel could have done that too and also hit a lot better in the process.
  22. If there was nothing to do in Milwaukee, then why does half the city of Chicago migrate here for work, fun, education, etc?
  23. Here's the link if anyone needs it. http://www.premiereinteractive.com/cgi-bin/members.cgi?stream=clips/09/05/050609_trevor_hoffman.wma&site=jimrome
  24. Mark your calendar. Next Friday, May 15th in St. Louis. We'll be untucking em plenty in that series unless the Cardinals make-shift pitching and Albert Pujols + 8 other scrubs offense can get out of their recent funk.
  25. It sure can because there is no advantage in the NL parks because the AL and NL pitchers are equally crappy, while in the AL parks, the advantage is significant.
