  1. Hopefully Lopez's ridiculously high BABIP last year comes back to earth.
  2. Wasn't JJ brought up as soon as the rosters expanded to 40 men? If so, it wasn't the timing of the Brewers calling him back up. It was the timing of when they sent him down which was after 2 awful months of offensive production.
  3. I would have Kotteras in there instead of Lucroy. Lucroy needs more seasoning and would be wasting development time riding the pine behind Zaun.
  4. Another reason to hate the Cubs. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/business/83931422.html The Milwaukee Brewers and other teams in the Cactus League in Arizona have hired a lobbyist to lead opposition to a proposal to enact a ticket surchargeto help finance a new Chicago Cubs spring-training facility. For the Brewers and other teams, the issue is simple. Why should Brewers fans pay a surcharge on a Brewers spring-training ticket to help the Cubs? That's how Rick Schlesinger, the Brewers' executive president for business operations, sees it. Schlesinger said he had not seen the proposed legislation, which calls for a car-rental tax increase and the ticket surcharge. But he said the Brewers have "serious concerns" about the plan. "Our fans should not be funding the Cubs' new facility down there," he said. "There are strong elements of unfairness here."
  5. They won't get all of the cheap dome hits now, and there is a TON less foul territory at Target Field. Not to mention there were be 5,000 fans per game after Opening Day in April. I agree with Ender.
  6. King Felix, Lee, Bedard, Snell, . Nice rotation.
  7. Jeff Suppan... Haha, just kidding. I think Weeks could be an All-Star if he can finally stay healthy.
  8. That's going to be a fun starting rotation to follow in the Link reports. I went up to Appleton last year to catch a game and its fun, cheap, and worth your while. I'd recommend it to anybody.
  9. Well it depends on if the 2008 Brendan Ryan shows up or the 2009 Brendan Ryan. Either way, he's not much of a hitter, but his defense was average in 2008 and pretty good in 2009. We'll see what happens in 2010.
  10. This year will be a contract year as well, so I'm sure he'll get another boost. Heck, if a team was smart, they would sign every player to 1 year deals, so they can get that 20% gain in performance. I sense some sarcasm there. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif With Tejada leaving Houston, there are some pretty awful shortstops in the NL Central. Check this out. Cardinals - Brendan Ryan Astros - Manzella/Keppinger Cubs - Theriot Pirates - Cedeno/Crosby Reds - Jannish Escobar might have the best WAR in the division after the season is over, and that isn't even a ridiculous thought.
  11. The thought of the Brewers moving gets me sick to my stomach. Although it is a possibility that they could move someday, they shouldn't be going anywhere before 2030. That's 20 years away...I'm 30 now and didn't start watching the Brewers until I was around 10 so I have around 20 years of Brewers memories...so 20 more years (hopefuly many more) would be great! Hopefully my 401k gets big enough to be able to purchase the Brewers at that time to save them from relocation. Anybody in as potential minority investors? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  12. Katin and Heether should see the 25 man roster at some point this season. Heether is more of a corner IF, but I believe he can play the OF, too. Katin has good power if he ever figures out out to take a walk to help his OBP and Heether impressed me last year in Nashville.
  13. I've heard before that the average ump gets paid $200,000 per year. I have no sources to back that up, though. I wonder if they still have that stupid clause in the contract where they can't show replay in the stadium on close plays. That really irritates me.
  14. Parra has been very good in the last 2 Spring Trainings so if he follows the recent trend, he'll be in our opening day rotation.
  15. Well the Gomez trade turns out to be a nice salary dump if anything.
  16. Chone projects Weeks as +13.9 runs offensively but -7.0 runs defensively. That would be his worst defensive year since 2006 so I wonder why they expect such a regression. He was actually above average in the field in the short time he played last year. My opinion is if he can stay healthy, he will be very effective in 2010 and could get a big pay day after the season.
  17. You don't have to earn a raise to get one in the arbitration process, it is assumed that every year of arbitration pays you more than the previous one unless there is an extreme reason not to. As for Gomez, his LD%, GB%, swings at pitches out of the zone, ISO, K% and B% all improved last year. This is a player showing growth even if it didn't come out in his slash stats. He pretty easily could be a 2 WAR player this season and with a little bit of a breakout he could reasonably reach 3 WAR. I don't think there is a reason to throw him under the bus just yet. Thanks for bringing that in, Ender. That is good information. Hopefully it can start showing on his slash stats sooner than later or he'll end up being our 4th OF/defensive replacement like he was in Minnesota last year down the stretch.
  18. All of this mocking of moneyball... sheesh. Even I'm not a stat guy, but I respect the concept. Buster Olney wrote a heck of an article on how Beane's ideas have had a major impact on the game people are copying his ideas because they work. Check it out, if you don't believe me. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/news/story?id=4794683 As for Macha, I don't think he's much of a moneyball guy. He goes away from the tactics time in and time out. Yost was more of a moneyball guy than Beane is and that's why he was a better manager, but that's a whole other argument. Beane was managing that team in Oakland and Macha might have learned a few things, but I don't consider him a moneyball guy.
  19. God I can't wait to see Gomez bust out this season! His situation reminds me of Aaron Rodgers a bit with how everyone just hates on him without giving him a chance because he is 24 and hasn't prvoed anything yet. No matter how high the potential or anything. I have yet to talk to a Twins fan who wasn't extremely high on the kid and actually rather upset about the trade. But onto Gerut I think its a good price. An extra 225,000 isn't going to make much of a difference on the pay role. He is a decent 4th OF who wasn't given many chances to play before Hart got injured I hope you're right, but first he has to prove to me that he can post a .300 OBP
  20. Gerut has shown in his career that he can play league average defense in CF and is a plus defender in the corners. If you combine that average defense with the .800+ OPS he put up 2 years ago, he's much more valuable than Gomez. Even if Gomez starts the year in CF, he'll hit his way out of the lineup like he did in Minnesota last year so I'm not too worried. Unless of course Gomez figured out how to recognize a pitch which at age 23 is still plausible.
  21. May he be our opening day starting CF? Pretty please? With sugar on top?
  22. Why when he is young and cheap? At worst we can just move him to the pen and he could be very effective.
  23. I think if Rogers can log 100+ quality innings this year, he should have no problem being called up in the 2011 season. His innings will have to be watched and he surely won't be relied on very heavily, but I think you are correct in 2012 is the year where he could open as our #2 starter.
  24. Over/Under 50 games before he takes over as KC's manager?
