  1. give his team a chance to come back in the final innings by leaving C Hart in the fricking game. not that difficult. fair enough.
  2. this whole team anymore, who can you count on? I'm not defending Ned, but I just can't figure out what he should do.
  3. Here's a series they have to win. No more strong schedule excuses, no more we never play well there excuses. It's time to take advantage of a bad team.
  4. You don't have to attribute that quote to anyone because everyone would say it. He's fat. And, he plays poor defense. And, he's not hitting.
  5. J.C. Bradbury has a chapter on 'protection' in his book The Baseball Economist. He says protection is a myth, and finds that strong on deck hitters (measured by OPS) have some negative effects on the batter. One of the results of the on deck batter having a higher OPS is a lower probability of a BB for the batter. It's a statistically significant effect, but it's also very small. A 100 point increase in OPS reduces the probability of the batter walking by about 2.5%. It seems pretty safe to say that Braun walks so little because he swings at so many pitches out of the strikezone, i.e. his K last night against the Pirates. Strike 3 must have been almost a foot off the plate.
  6. Prince's value is letting him swing away with runners on base. Why take the chance at an out on the bases while he's batting, why open up first for a walk? If your m.o. is let's be aggressive at all times regardless of the situation then the double steal makes sense. But, it was a close game with your primary RBI producer at bat, I don't think the situation called for aggressive play. It was a bad decision and it didn't work. Also, if your logic is run so Prince doesn't hit into a double play, that's not aggressive - it's fear.
  7. This is a nice lineup. DBT absolutely rocks, there is no way around it. Also, the Old 97's will be there on June 28th (not sure which stage) but they always put on a good show. More than once I've seen them convert people who've never heard of them.
  8. I'd prefer he just manage as though this isn't legion ball.
  9. how many runs have they left on base or run out of tonight. This team is just awful. You know a 2+ run inning is looming for the Pirates.
  10. I think criticism of Braun is uncalled for. The team is obviously in a tail spin, on the verge of their second 6 game losing streak in just over 2 weeks, and I don't fault what he said. You've got to figure it's a fairly toxic clubhouse environment already. If they were happy go lucky and these comments turn them sour then something was wrong. If the media is going to talk to you, then you may as well say what you are thinking, and the truth is better than all the trite comments about how it's going to come together if they just keep plugging away. At this point (with his long term contract) he's got more at stake in this team's success than anyone else, so it just makes sense for him to be the leader. These comments, on the heals of the contract, suggest that he does care about winning in Milwaukee, and that it wasn't just about getting the money.
  11. I've always wanted season tickets, and now that I can afford them I don't live in Wisconsin anymore! Drat! My plans have always been to get them as soon as I'm near enough to use them, so the previous season's record won't matter.
  12. Will the Crew score another run today? That is the question.
  13. That wasn't a lolly pop throw. Hardy was charging a slow roller and had to fire it to first to get the guy out. It was a perfect throw. Fielder just didn't catch it. Yeah, it was simply an inexcusable play.
  14. Some people around here rip Hardy for his Range Factor. I wonder how much it would be improved if we had a 1B who played average defense.
  15. how many times have Brewer pitchers given up back to back HRs this season? 4?5?
  16. I guess, relative to some recent years, at least there is 1 reason to watch.
  17. I've been defending Yost lately by asking, "Which players can he count on to make game winning plays/pitches?" The answer in my mind being no one so far. But, my brother just again this morning was saying just fire him because maybe it'll fire up the players and change the dugout dynamic, etc. I don't know if I believe that, but do others think it could make a difference?
  18. I missed the first few innings, and as I was driving home my only question was, how many runs would they be down. I was hoping I'd be wrong to think that way, but I wasn't. It's depressing.
