  1. I've just stopped expecting the Brewers to score runs when it looks like its inevitable. It makes watching so much less frustrating. I just hope that between today's Fox game and tomorrow's on TBs they score at least one run on national tv. I realize it doesn't matter one way or another, but it makes it embarrassing to be a fan.
  2. I like Prince because it seems that he clearly wants to win and isupset when he/team play poorly. I don't get the impression that it's disproportionately about the money for Prince, and you can't blame him for wanting more money given the nature of the game. I think his defense is a liability, along with his weight, and even though I really like him I'll understand when the Brewers have to let him go get his money in the AL. And what's important is that I think he understands that too. You can rip on Cecil all you want, but Prince certainly knows this is a business and a player would be naive to think anything else.
  3. I'm happy to see some people defend Rock. I've always liked him, and if anything he's had some pretty lame play-by-play partners. BA is just boring, and Sutton annoyed me with the way he would spout about how great certain players were. Every now and then I'll catch a Padres broadcast on Extra Innings and wish Vasgersian was still calling Brewer games. I thought he and Rock were good together, partially because you never knew what Vasgersian was going to say next so it kept the repetition down.
  4. Well the homestand ended with a thud. On to Boston, and let's win there. Boston has lost 4 straight to Baltimore and Minnesota, so they are beatable.
  5. The in-game-thread has turned into a lament-thread. What a disappointing day. Every time I think this team has brought me down for the last time (i.e. last night) they go and do it again. Oh, it hurts so bad! (lamenting howl).
  6. Man Weeks is frustrating. K after K after K.
  7. 1 - The Braun deal brightens what's been a tough first 7 weeks. I think the writing is on the wall for Fielder, he'll be playing somewhere else before Braun. 2 - I think the Cubs are the team to beat, they may struggle on the road but not as much as the other NL Central teams will. I hope I'm wrong, I hate them so much! 3 - I'm a big fan of Manny. He's got the slacker reputation, but who do you want hitting in an important game, him or A-Rod? Has fun and plays great, what else do you want?
  8. Unless you pay for someone who pitches a complete game every time out, what does it matter who they sign? I realized the starters haven't been great, but Bush, Villa, and Parra have each pitched well in the last week. It's the bullpen that's the issue, and they tried to fix that by throwing money at it in the off season. JohnBriggs12 post above is right on, and if the players we already have start pitching to potential is there any reason to go after names like those? I'm conflicted because I'm happy to see the Brewers willing to spend, but this is the same management that gave Gagne $10 million.
  9. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to post this here or in the "Too Stupid Thread" - Ha! I also know that one-liners are discouraged by the moderators. I'm always so afraid I'll get kicked out of BF.net for breaking a rule I didn't know existed. That's not a shot, that's true! Does this post belong here?
  10. I was just saying that this season of the Simpsons has been consistently better than the last several. I agree that it isn't what it once was, but this season has been funny. I think the movie was good and they got some energy from it. For example, this last Sunday's episode had multiple laugh out loud moments. Homer with the chain and cinder block, Homer's response to Lisa's correcting him. Family Guy is just boring and confusing, I've never made it through 5 minutes of that show because it never seems like there is any story to follow. I also think of the shots that South Park took at Family Guy when I see it, and whenever I watch South Park I think of the "Simpson's Did It" episode of South Park.
  11. I've never heard Owen, so I'm not hearing his voice, but the posts are good. I think the Gagne idea makes sense - that he has to succeed so you have to play him. That said, do you have to play him the night after he pitches 2 innings? He hadn't pitched 2 innings in about 4 years, and he was struggling in the 2nd of those two innings. It's true Gagne was coming in to face the bottom of the order, but how many times have we heard BA say something like "the heart of the order won't hit this inning unless Gagne lets a couple get on," only to see "The Big Bat" on deck or hitting before long. So, the worst part is that not only is Gagne facing those guys, he's facing them with runners on after throwing who knows how many pitches. It worked last night (and I'm certainly not one of those who pulls for losses so change will happen, so I'm happy about it), but I still think it didn't make a lot of sense.
  12. I thought they might find a way to take wins away from the Brewers!
  13. I'd guess the Cards and Astros feel about the way we (or at least I) do about Berkman/Pujols. I hate those guys. Not for good reasons, just because they are good baseball players. Regarding Wainright's comments, they are made after Braun hit 2 homers off him so he's probably venting some, and notice he said "if you make tough pitches," not if you make average pitches. He basically said you need a perfect pitch to get him out, even then he may get a hit. This is a nice thread to have because I'd rather have players people hate because they hit home runs than a bunch of players people don't know exist because they don't hit. I remember going to a Brewer game with a Braves fan friend one time, and he watched the first 3 innings in shock because he had no idea who was on the Brewers and how bad they were. This was about 2003/2004 probably, so it was lean times.
  14. I agree, it seems that the other team so often knocks in that gift run (error to second) and the Brewers so rarely get a guy in from second (Hart the previous inning)
  15. Side A: Extra Innings, Side B: The Weather Channel Yeah for the first consecutive wins since April 22nd/23rd
  16. I've heard people say that the increased prevalence of the cutter is to blame for broken bats because its late movement in or out makes hitters miss the sweet spot, which is when the bats break. Sheets' curveball is 12 to 6, and more often than not he simply makes batters miss or take a strike with it. While it may not really be 4 years, I wouldn't be surprised if he breaks fewer bats than other pitchers. I'm not saying Olney didn't just miss the point/joke, which seems very possible with Sheets.
  17. I think it was reasonable to have high expectations of the Brewers this year for a lot of reasons already covered elsewhere very well, and I don't think it's unreasonable to continue to have them (yet). I'll admit that I was concerned that this year would end up being a huge disappointment, but that has more to do with my basic outlook on life than any kind of analysis. On bad days I worry that last year Hardy,Hart,Braun,Fielder all had career years. Nonetheless, you watch the way this team has played (not very good) and you look at the record (only 1 game under) and you think that even modest improvement could put them into the chase in the NL Central. Each team ahead of them at this point will have significant slides at some point. If the Brewers have figured it out by then, then they can be right back near the top.
  18. You mean seeing the lineup go Hardy-Suppan-Kendall-Weeks-Gwynn, or, wait, you meant seeing the lineup go Hall-Hardy-Suppan-Kendall-Weeks-Gwynn. Wait, maybe you meant Hall-Hardy-Suppan-Kendall-Weeks-Gwynn-Braun....
  19. I don't know about overreaction or not, but here is how I'm trying to think about it. They don't need to win 90 games to win the NL central. If they win 85 they'll be right in the thick of things. That means 68 wins out of 126 games left to play, or a winning percentage of .539. Does that seems like a tall order given their performance over the last several seasons? I remember about this time last year thinking, "man all they have to do is play .500 ball for the rest of the season and this is locked up." We see how well that turned out, they played 0.460 after the 24/10 start. Clearly, you couldn't have expected that start to last (they were on pace for about 114 wins which is just not going to happen), but expecting around .500 seemed perfectly reasonable and would have been about 88 wins. All that said, however, one stretch where they win 8 of 10 and then .500 the rest of the way and they're still in the playoff hunt. Especially given the wildcard which lets bad teams into the playoffs and gives them as much chance to win the World Series as anybody else who made it (i.e. last year's Rockies).
  20. All these June bugs that fly into my window all night long. When will they learn not to fly into the light?
  21. I'm a believer!!!!! I can't believe how good this feels!!!!!!
  22. Hardy not blessed with exceptional speed!! You don't say Brian!
