  1. It seems like Hart has a ST/early-season issue every year or is that another of my hallucinations?
  2. I have a friend that's a Brewers fan and a Bears fan of all things. For the life of me I can't figure out how that's even possible. I'm waiting for her head to explode.
  3. That's quite creative. Did you come up with that twist on your own? I assume that the rule would apply to both leagues. That would be a huge improvement. Yes, I came up with that. Thanks. In my mind, it's a simple answer to a long-time question. This is one of those things that can be a big deal but it ends up being a big deal in such a small number of games that it really isn't a very big deal overall. Not a big deal to you and not a big deal over all are 2 entirely different things. If it weren't at least a somewhat big deal over all there would be no debate. The NL would have had the DH long ago.
  4. The 'strategy' involved for PH is so simplistic and makes so little difference in 95% of games that it isn't much of a loss. I have to disagree with that. I don't think a double switch is simplistic by any means. They often become make-or-break decisions that have fans on the edges of their seats. How often have you seen a double switch in an AL game?
  5. I could live with the DH in the NL, IF the starting DH was tied to the SP. Each pitching change would also require a DH change (when the pitcher's spot in the order comes up). The pitchers would be protected from the dangers of touching a bat but the strategerie (Yogi-ism) wouldn't be lost.
  6. Having followed both threads from the beginning, I haven't seen anything on the following (or I forgot- a sad but true reality). This is assuming that what we heard is true about 2 other tests being odd and then consequently thrown out. Would Braun's test also have been thrown out if there had been no leak? In this scenario, Braun and 2 others tested positive, but the tests were strange to say the least. The players, and MLB, have been notified but MLB has not yet handed down any suspensions as they are contemplating the strange results and what to do about them. Then Braun's result leaks. MLB is backed into a corner; a really tight corner. They dare not look as if they're sweeping a star player's reportedly failed test under the rug. They throw out the other 2 and move ahead on Braun, eliciting Braun's "this is total BS" remark and his apparent anger right from the start. We've been told that the leak came from Braun's side and that everyone involved knows where the leak came from. They may have known where the leak came from as soon as it happened. Was Braun singled out (of the 3 reportedly bad tests) as punishment for the leak? Or was the fact that the leak came from Braun's side the "straw that broke the camel's back" seeing as how MLB was already backed into a really tight corner as a result of the leak? I can see this as being grounds for Das' decision as well as MLB's strong reaction.
  7. This is outstanding... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO3LxJdnqa0
  8. I was just gonna add the best shape of his life bit. Well done.
  9. I'm good with extending RR. His rookie year wasn't flawless by any means, but the results were good over all and it was his rookie year. You can't expect a rookie to perform like a multi-year vet in any job, much less this particular job, wherein experience seems almost invaluable.
  10. The Internet is the greatest source of information mankind has yet to see. It's also the greatest source of misinformation mankind has yet to see. I tell people constantly "just because you read something 3 times on the Internet, that doesn't make it the truth."
  11. I don't believe either to be the case. Can we just wait until we have all the scientific details? I'm pretty much in that same camp. There are just too many other scenarios to narrow it down to these two. I do believe that the 44 hour delay is likely responsible for the positive, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the collector purposely tainted it.
  12. Probably the best (or worst) example I've seen lately came from Mike Florio at PFT. A few months ago he speculated that Jermichael Finley could conceivably argue for wide receiver money if franchised. Of course other sites and blogs picked up on it and there was a bit of hullabaloo over it. A month later, Florio stated that Finley almost certainly would fight for receiver money, and even posted a bunch of links to outside sources. Those outside source links went to the posts on sites and blogs that had reacted to his (Florio's) original out-of-nowhere speculation a month earlier. Talk about creating a story out of nothing! Masterful!
  13. Also, Braun didn't say "the substance didn't enter his body intentionally", he said "100% NEVER ENTERED his body".
  14. I came away with the same feeling, especially the remarks about the tester's son and whomever else ended up knowing whose sample that was.
  15. Braun also brought up facts about the records that are kept throughout a player's career. Braun never gained a single pound. Never became a single percent faster on the base paths. Never gained a single percent of arm strength. Didn't gain any power in hitting. Didn't work out any harder, any longer, or anymore often. Followed exact same workout for the past 6 years. Calm and controlled, but could see underlying emotion. Extremely factual and believable.
  16. After watching it, my first impression was "now THAT is an innocent man."
  17. Braun said (paraphrasing) "100%, that substance never entered my body." Also mentioned the fact that the collector's son was the chaperone when Braun peed, meaning someone other than the collector knew whose sample it was as it was missing for 44 hours.
  18. I've been dying for a new sig...thanks Nottso If anyone can post a link to a video of Braun's announcement or even just a recap, it would be greatly appreciated. Not sure I'll be able to get away for it. Glad to be of service (I think).
  19. Sadly, it's just a reflection of society as a whole. Integrity means nothing anymore. There are many people defending ESPN on the premise that "Braun failed the test and ESPN reported it so ESPN is technically right." I would venture to guess that many of these are the same people that, if given too much change at the grocery store, keep the money.
  20. Is there any way to get that back? I may be mislabeling the feature as hot keys. I mean where I could select text in Quick Reply, press ctrl+i and the HTML code would be applied to the text and then appear as italics when posted.
  21. If I had Braun's pee in my fridge I'd tell everybody. Humor aside, I'd be more inclined to hang Pujols, but if evidence came out that he were innocent I'd change my mind and be vocal about it. I can't sit still for the innocent getting hanged even if I dislike the innocent in question.
  22. My take on their squealing is that in many bureaucracies, 80% of the "work" done is aimed at justifying the very existence of said bureaucracy. There has to be billions, if not trillions, being spent each year on drug testing in one form or another and the Golden Goose must be protected.
  23. This, coupled with MLB network sending their people to Maryvale, gives me great hope.
