  1. Just yesterday I bet a guy ten dollars that Rickie makes the All-Star team this year. I couldn't agree more, and I'd extend him with obvious games played incentives.
  2. I think this is a great signing. Remember 13 mil now is worth more than 13 mil then. I think they got off cheap--not Braun cheap, but more than fair for a strong #2 pitcher. I do think this means Prince hits the road. 20 to 25 mil a year is just too much. But if they keep locking up important players on a consistent basis I think it means good things for our long term stability. I just think the idea came up a year or two late for Fielder.
  3. Agreed, unless one of the players is injury prone?
  4. I want my best offensive players getting the most at bats. Unless you're gonna put Fielder or Braun at the top of the line up Rickie stays where he should. I would move Gomez to 8 or 9 though. He's already got 5 to 10 percent of all the hits he'll get this year. Why would I put him at the top. Bad offensive players would be best batting 10th or 14th.
  5. It is true that the trade was a good thing; it is also true that the Brewers would be better off with the two in the system now. I would trade Hart for Brantley or LaPorta.
  6. I completely disagree with this. Fans, public figures, owners, past players, we all need to continually point out the unfair advantage the Yankees have. We need to shout it from the rafters. We need it to ring in the heads of America's sports conscience. However, I don't think it should be whining either. It should be pure rage and it should never let up under any circumstances.
  7. I do think it's cool that we've already seen Gomez's greatest day as a Brewer. And anyone as ugly Zaun with that long hair and the face of a muleskinner is gonna outperform Kendall in half as many games.
  8. If Parra and Narveson remain in the bullpen why call up Braddock at all? If Macha goes off his nut and keeps Suppan in the 5th position it'll take an injury to one of the bullpen lefties for Braddock to be called up. I'll say June when Parra goes down with a shoulder problem.
  9. When Selig divested himself of the team. He was my hero and he turned into the devil incarnate--intentionally keeping the team down for years, actively trying not to compete. There's a reason the Milwaukee Brewers are probably the second worst franchise in the history of the MLB, next to the St. Louis Browns, and that reason was Bud Selig and his cadre of small time owners who did everything they could to protect their investment. Feel free to be outraged--it's the function of mythology.
  10. For whatever reason some pitchers medically can't stand up to the rigors of starting pitching. I think that's Braddock. But if you simplify everything by taking away pitches etc. we may have a dominant set-up man (where I'd rather see him) or closer. The Brewers are so average at developing pitchers I'm thrilled by Braddock's development and believe he's in the Crew's near future if his body proves it can hold up.
  11. Jermaine Dye is a DH. I hope Melvin has really passed and is no longer thinking of this move. Edmonds/Gerut is clearly better in terms of production and money. Moving Hart would be best for him. He needs a new enviroment. The one he's in is a cesspool and to be fair, he doesn't have a chance. Maybe if he had decided against arby, and maybe accepted demotion to work on his game (if this was even possible). If he turned it around in AAA, I'd have no problems with calling him up and giving him a full chance to start. But he's Derrick-Turnbow-bad right now, and that's scary. Part of me does feel sorry for him, but a much larger part of me just thinks he dug his own grave.
  12. Rickie. Big crowds. Development of some more pitching in the minors. Big trade for a major offensive piece, probably in center or right. Escobar ROY.
  13. 13-10 overcoming a brutal first nine games. 3+8+3=14 Coffey and Hoffman are going to have a lot of saves because the games are going to be very close this year. The Brewer offense will not generate many 7-2 games.
  14. Was anyone else thinking that maybe Nate Robinson should have been in our picture? I mean it's obvious they don't like Parra right now, and that Narveson for all his good work is never gonna get the opportunity except in the case of injuries. Can't wait to see how much cash the Tigers sent along.
  15. You know one thing needs to be said. No matter where they finish, 75 wins or 90 wins, this is going to be an entertaining team. They've got enough extreme players to be very interesting. Take a guy like Gomez. I don't think he's going to succeed, but he's gonna be fun to watch. What's not fun about Prince and Hoffman? Even Braunie is fun, though he frustrates the hell outta me. Hart's is going to be run out of town--that'll be a good story as he got too big for his britches. Weeks, if not injuried (I know I know--it's inevitable) is positively goona be dynamite! This is a cool team. Just a hovering around .500 team that's all.
  16. I've only seen Dennis twice live and once on television. But man oh man, the ball just comes off his bat differently. It can be a bit shocking. I thought he hit the ball harder than Lawrie, but I'm a mere pedestrian when it comes to true knowledge, and I only mention it as "this kid has potential", not that he's on par with Lawrie. Really fun to watch him.
  17. I don't get the Gamel hate either. If the Brewers don't give him a real chance this year or next then they are truly stupid. So what if some guys just rub you the wrong way. Live with it. There's lots of unseemly people who play sports and many of them are productive. I think Gamel will be a semi-stud and certainly a worthy starting third baseman for half a decade.
  18. Me too. If there's any reason besides the contract you're out of your minds, and even then I'd probably take Hart.Me three.
  19. I'd be interested in a three-way too. It just doesn't include Snyder or Lowell.
  20. Maybe I should have said Macha's black hole. He's gonna put Hart's name in there much too often. And that will kill us offensively. Hart's my fifth outfielder this year. I'd run an Edmonds/Gerut combo, with Hart only playing against weak lefties. And what if Gerut doesn't comeback to previous offensive levels, and Edmonds hurts himself again? I don't know--smells like limburger--it's limburger.
  21. What you're saying could be completely true. I hope you're right. I was overall impressed with the post-Z drafting, but don't really see anyone in the system as good as Weeks, much less Braun or Fielder or Gallardo.
  22. Hart is a dead man walking unless he starts hot. And given his troubles in spring training that looks unlikely. I agree that the fans are going to be brutal, and I really think that will affect him. He honestly hasn't gotten better, injuries or no, he's simply not adequate. Does he have a chance? sure. But how many wasted chances finally constitutes failure? In Hart case I think this year is the answer. His career is well and truly on the line. He better act like it.
  23. I think it's more important for the Brewers to sign Prince than for the Twins to sign Mauer. The reason? The Twins produce major leaguers at a much steadier pace than the Brewers. They'll always have young players ready to slot in. Much of their payroll will be cheap and talented, surrounding Mauer. If the Brewers sign Prince they'll surround him with just cheap, not so talented. Mauer's signing is the death knell for Morneau though. Mauer will have to move to 1st eventually unless Mauer proves to be bionic in a Kendallesque way without losing his offensive abilities. In the end financial reality will hit Mark A., and he's gonna have to let Fielder walk. Braun and Yo are the real heart of the team. Too many risks with Prince. Love him, awesome guy, but gotta wish him well in the end.
  24. I think Escobar will have a good year, better than expected offensively. RF is a black hole. Their best Rfer is Gerut and Macha is gonna sit the guy. I think catching will be better than expected as well, offensively. Defensively, I think it'll be in the lower 3rd. Gallardo is a solid #2. Wolf a solid #3. Davis a solid #5. Starting pitching will still hurt us overall. I expect the bullpen to be much improved because of the plethora of long relievers. If Macha uses them correctly (3 or more innings at a time) then the pitching overall has a chance to make us competitive. Oh mighty Casey--he will strike out. Too bad he's the guy you love to root for. Gomez is just a truly bad offensive player, but without an alternative (Brantley) we're just gonna suffer. I think the Brewers will be good enough to save Macha's job and that's the only real disappointment. Between 75 and 83 wins.
  25. I'll say it again, for the umpteenth time, cut Suppan and keep your best pitchers. I think players appreciate the message. If you're good enough you'll stick.
