  1. I agree with much of the sentiment. I'd talk Yo with Melvin so I could get at Inman (my real target). How about Rios for Inman, Parra, and Villy.
  2. I don't know why anyone would want Giambi. I like the second trade if you take out the reliever. But I also agree with the Dodgers comment, assuming Nomar could play 3rd base. I think the Dodgers have tastier minor leaguers, and 2nd tier major leagues than the Astros.
  3. I totally take your point about relievers, and if I didn't think Broxton was gonna be extra special I'd agree. Of course I'd like to just give up Hart or the like for him, but I think the Dodgers think he's gonna be their closer for years to come, hence some real talent to pry him away. P.S. I never really thought of something like this till the Padres showed me you could practically build a team around relievers. (overstating for affect)
  4. I wouldn't want him, just like I hope the brewers don't draft Weiters. They're just both so damn big. I don't remember too many giants wearing the tools. Am I wrong? What's the track record for tall catchers?
  5. I've got to admit I've got a total man-crush on Broxton. I just think he's the next big-thing waiting to happen. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be Gagne-good (hopefully without the arm problems). I do the Jenks thing in a heartbeat, but I don't know where the crew would put Wilson long term unless it's the bench.
  6. I'll take Jones for Mench if the Cubbies pay 9/10s of his salary.
  7. Where can I get more info on these players? Anyone we should get really excited about? Was this a definite "we lost our second pick" strategy or would the Brewers have signed these players anyways? I'm new to the draft thing, so I apologize if this is missed placed or too obvious of a question.
  8. I'd think we'd have to throw in another player (Villy? vargas?)
  9. Hall and Capellan for Broxton assuming Jose does well and Weeks isn't terminal this year. The Dodgers are desparate for for a bat and a 3rd baseman. Broxton gets us insurance for Turnbow and Cordero. Heck, we all know he's better than either right now, but what a killer bullpen. When Cordero walks we're covered. Our outfield becomes Jenkins, Gwynn, Hart or Jenks, Gross, Hart.
  10. yeah, I was thinking the same thing. A 4.50 era is what I want from my 4th or 5th starter. Thanks for the info though, you guys are the best.
  11. I think the rule on Strongbow is two walks and you're outta there--tough loss, still can't win a series.
  12. I wonder about that quality start stat. 3 runs in 6 innings is a quality start? Not mine. 2 runs in 6 innings seems like a quality start. 3 runs in 7 innings seems like it could be quality. In fact how is a quality start defined as only 6 innings pitched? I really don't get it. Not trying to start something; it's just antithetical to my way of thinking.
  13. I would never contest Sheet's gumption or his desire. He's a good team player; I love the way he keeps things light. I believe he has the most ability of the starting five, and if he pitches better the Brewers will do better. Do I think Sheets is pitching up to his own standards, no. I think Ben Sheets would agaree with me because he's an upright guy. Do I think many ballplayers would say the same thing just to appear humble, yes. Do I believe that the Brewers have a chance in the playoffs if Sheets pitches the way he has so far this year, no. Are my expectations too high or just wrong, absolutely. That's a lesson I learned from my ex-wife, nuff said.
  14. I'm pretty pessimistic about many of these guys being major league starters. However I'm really pumped that these guys could be very productive relievers (but no closers unfortunately). Starters: Gallardo, Villy, Braddock. Inman I'm just not sold on Short guy, small hands, smells like cabbage--the proverbial Mike Meyers carny-type.
  15. I think he'll be a good Elmer Dessens, and if Villy moves into the rotation someday, I see Jackson taking his spot. that's the upper limit as I see it.
  16. It wouldn't make sense. it would be a big risk. A risk I'm sure the Brewers aren't going to take. But I just don't think Nix can bring us anything. gross or Mench or Gwynn might gets us pen help, though I suspect we'd need to trade two of them for one reliever.
  17. Oh, and by the way, Nix wouldn't fetch us anything. But the other two could get us the bullpen help we need. Nothing topflight for Gwynn or Gross but more on the line of a good Elmer Dessens instead of a stinkbomb Elmer Dessens.
  18. I concur with the general feeling of the thread. I'd trade Gross or Gwynn, and make Nix the 4th outfielder. I happen to like Nix, physically I believe he's superior to both, and as an upside I believe he can still develop, although I acknowledge the previous numbers don't predict this. But look at the guy, really look. He's ripped, almost as fast as Gwynn, I see him as a combination of TGR and Gross. He's definitely a better outfielder than Gross. But I admit in the end this would be a risk putting my eggs in this basket.
  19. I would do that trade for Sheets. But I believe the reality of the situation is that you couldn't get Sheets for even one of them. I think (if the Tigers were smart) that they'd ask for Sheets and someone like Villanueva for Miller and even then it would be iffy considering how much better and cheaper Miller is.
  20. I think we could get Baker for Hall.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. I would not be willing to trade prospects for vets unless we get prospects as well. Now that sounds ridiculous, but somehow Melvin manages it.
  22. Thanks so much!
  23. Mench for Gross--that's heinous! Keep the better defender in there. gross is having a great game
  24. If he gets outta this, do you go Turnbow and Cordero?
