  1. I'd do this in a heartbeat. I think it would make the Brewers almost Red Sox good, and solve their number one problem, dumb hitters. I'd put Braun in the OF; he's got the speed, it's easier, and I think he'd flourish even more. I'd package Jenkins and others for top flight bullpen help, and then watch the rest of the NL eat our dust.
  2. I'm just so glad that the Tigers swooped in their and got this guy. I woulda puked if the fell to the Yankees. I'd rather have a Detroit dynasty. Picks like this will certainly keep the BoSox and Yanks spending billions on free agents.
  3. To be honest, I'd be disappointed if he was sent to WV. With that gaudy OPS (did I get that right 1.399, if so, that's playstation good) I'd say Huntsville or Manateeville. I mean the guy's only 1 or 2 years younger than Fielder. If you draft a college senior, and you project him to arrive in 3 or 4 years, well, then that's not really a big time prospect is it? It's my preception that the best players arrive in the Bigs when they're 21 to 24, and that good to middling players arrive when they're 25 or 26. Of course there are exceptions. If the Brewers aren't going to fast track him they're basically saying, "sure you're the 7th pick, but you ain't no Fielder." Another point in favor of making him a Manatee is the stadium. If he can hit with significant power there then he proabably can write his ticket to the show as the next one-dimensional left fielder that teams like the Rangers have produced.
  4. Oops..I woulda picked Heyward for the record.
  5. I really liked the catcher and 2nd baseman. Line drive hitters, self-made, who take it upon themselves to improve. I love that both feel totally at home with wooden bats. I didn't like the first rounder. He seems like a bit of a stiff. My guess is that they really wanted a college pitcher here, but got beat to the punch. I must say that I'm neither a Carlos Lee fan or a Kevin Mench fan, and I think that's what the Brewers got if he turns out or he fails. A guy who was initally a catcher, moved to first base, and then to leftfield? They better hope Darren Ford is the next Tris Speaker because he's gonna have to cover a field and a half. I'm sure I'm going to be wrong given Mr. Z's track record, but this one doesn't make me happy at all. I assume this means the end of Jenkins, especially if he's fast tracked. If he's wildly good, and makes the big jump, they might not pick up the team option for next year, saving themselves, what? Seven mil or so. Let the slings and arrows commence!
  6. I couldn't agree more. Two year minimum. If I was a major leaguer, looking at how much money the first rounders get, I'd be really angry. I'd be thinking "hey, some of that dough is mine!" I'd walk up to the general manager and say "hey jerk, you think some snot-nosed kid is worth more than me; I put in the time; I humped it for 4 years in the minors, 6 in the majors, and now you're gonna give this guy more than I'm making--get out!" Why are major leaguers so stupid?
  7. Did I hear right? The Brewers already have an agreement with Aumont?
  8. Rather than cheap, could the answer here be "principles"? No high schooler should be rewarded with over the slot money because history shows teams get screwed more than they cash in on their investment. The risk is too big. Let the Rangers have Porcello, offer him the slot, and in the same sentence invite him to go to college--no other negoiations. I swear teams don't act like they have any leverage at all. Weiters wants a major league contract somewhere between 7 and 10 million dollars. Give him the slot money, plus a little extra for doing the right thing in going to college, and then invite him to return to Georgia--no other negotiations. If they don't like the money I get the pick back next year, big deal. If the small market teams would step up and pick the expensive players, the Boras clients, etc. and then very kindly offer them the door, I think there would be a lot less of this intrigue and teams would eventually get the players they deserve. I mean what's the point? In the NFL and NBA, generally the best preceived players go to the worst teams.
  9. Just curious. I've been hearing a lot of the Miggy is unmotivated, just in it for the money, refuses to improve, etc. Where is this coming from?
  10. Could Gamel play rightfield? I assume he's got to have a pretty good arm if they want him at 3rd. But can he move or is he a plodder?
  11. Preception is important, and if a "Rook" is going to break the unwritten rules of baseball, then he's going to get the slap down eventually or alienate others. In addition, athletes get inspired by preceived "snubs" or "showing up" or whatever you want to call it. I don't want to give the opposition fodder for the next time their in town. Plus, in this world, who needs it? Personally, I'm sick of sports figures drawing attention to themselves whether it be in the end zone or at the plate. I think Braun should can the subtle antics lest they eventually develop further and cause him real problems. I hate to admit it but Kruk's right about this one.
  12. With the Brewer success with Inman and Yo, and their brilliance recently with 1st round hitters why not go bat, arm, arm. (I realize no 2nd rounder this year).
  13. Last night I was listening to XM. Callis was on wiht the lastest and said that Moustakas could go as high as #2 to KC, but probably not because of Gordon. He did say he believed that the Cubs had moved off of Vitters and will take Moustakas. I hope this means that all the talk of Aumont means they're really hiding their true intention--Heyward.
  14. Hart/Gwynn Weeks Fielder Hardy Jenks/Mench Braun Hall Estrada/Miller Cappy When Mench plays I'd drop him to seventh. Hall to fifth.
  15. I actually don't want either of these guys. Buehrle is gonna break the bank, so he's strictly a rental. Dye, never really like him because I thought he had to be surrounded by others to lift his game--never the guy to hitch your team to. The only way I can see it happening is if the Brewers gave next to nothing (which won't happen) and we bank a couple of draft choices from another team. If what we give isn't worth those slots then by all means.
  16. Nope--strictly a geriactric signing.
  17. What, except for striking out, is keeping Ford from being a devastating major leaguer one day?
  18. Salome--mainly because if the Brewers actually developed a catcher I'd need to call an ambulance. Inman's next because it's just too good to be true. If this guy goes to Huntsville and is able to keep his era in the 2.10 range--I'll need to call an ambulance. And anybody who can draw a walk, and is under 24 years old--they're the real prospects.
  19. I love this stuff. Just great, start to finish, a real gem! Look these guys aren't exactly college material--that level of humor and creativity has got to be unusual.
  20. Do you I have this right--if a team fails to sign a player, then next year they get that pick. So if fail at signing Moustakis (sic) then next year they get the 7th pick overall? If this is true I wouldn't worry about a Boras client again, and go for Moustaksis(sic).
  21. Swap out Villy for Gwynn? Parra I think is strictly bullpen and no where close to a lock.
  22. Yeah, I was thinking along that line, but if the Brewers make a serious playoff run who knows what wheelin' and dealin' Melvin does. And maybe he's good enough to be long relief if Villy finds his way into the rotation via trade, injury, etc.
  23. Would you trade for Dukes if the price was right? I realize we don't need another outfielder, but the kid's ceiling is pretty high. We might be able to get him cheap, hide him away somewhere and get him the help he needs. Or do we simply never get into this situation, don't need the headache, etc. I admit he's an abominable human right now, but he's young and might be persuaded to understand what's at stake here? (better subject -TC)
  24. They need a bat desparately.
  25. I was just reading Hardball Times, and they were saying that Dillard could be a back of the rotation guy as soon as this year. 60% ground balls, good command. How reliable is HBTs? I've not seen it until today. Thanks for any help/opinions.
