  1. Awesome reference http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Just thinking about that scene is making me laugh right now. I think most of you guys hit it on the head. It's a combination of the extended media coverage players have today and the fact that we're watching them play. Babe Ruth and Ted Williams are baseball gods, but they would be considered horrible role-models and "trouble" players if they played today.
  2. I don't understand this concept of batting a RF leadoff...
  3. Are you implying that Vargas used PEDs?
  4. To be fair, Casey, if he can control the pitch enough to throw it just high and tight, can he control it enough to nip the outside corner? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif With McClung, I wouldn't be too amazed if he was actually trying to throw high and tight.
  5. I don't see any pictures timothyw80. Says they've been moved or deleted. Edit: much better http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. There are a whole bunch of threads here talking about the players, and quite often it's about how badly the players are doing. This thread is about Ned Yost. Those that don't like him use this thread to hold him accountable (or at least make us feel like we are), and we use the other threads to point out instances when the players are responsible. As for your comment about the W-L record, it really has never had anything to do with wins and losses necessarily. Many of us have been angry with Ned after a win and satisfied with Ned after a loss. It's not about the result; it's about creating a situation that has the best probability of achieving a good result. I'm sure you could pinch hit Craig Counsell for Ryan Braun with the bases loaded and every once in a long while, Counsell will hit a grand slam. But that doesn't mean you should do it every time after just because it worked once, and it doesn't mean that the manager that decided to do that is a genius. The result would be a grand slam, but it would still be a stupid move regardless of the result. The one about Cameron doesn't necessarily bother me. Cameron is a very good CF, so I think he has a point when he says that. As for the pitching thing, his words would carry much more weight if he hadn't already said things like that about every crap pitcher that has held us to a run or less this year. It's like the boy who cried wolf...it just doesn't mean anything anymore.
  7. I think it's a little early to write off Cameron. Even gold glovers botch a play every once in awhile, and while his hitting has been somewhat disappointing, he wasn't going to be that great of a hitter. He could have two good weeks of hitting and be back to his career averages. He's also out of place batting 2nd, in my opinion, but that's another story.
  8. I think it's funny that there are a bunch of page views but no responses, like we're all afraid to say what we want to say. All I'll say is that I can't imagine who came up with this idea and how they discovered it...
  9. I don't know if I get it. Why not AAA, or AA?
  10. "More good outings than bad outings" sounds very, very bad for a relief pitcher. I don't think I would be confident in a pitcher that is effective 55% of the time. I wasn't disappointed in Riske. I think he'll be very good when he gets back.
  11. I don't think you can pinch hit twice in the same at-bat. What JB and I were talking about was bringing Branyan in to bat for Hall against a righty. You can't pinch hit Branyan, have the other team bring in a lefty, then pinch hit Cameron.
  12. So can we take him out in the 5th and put him back in for the 8th? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. That's what I was thinking, too. I guess at that point it depends on who you trust more...Hall against righties or Branyan against lefties. And Hall is not a .150 batter against righties. You can't just take this season's stats into account.
  14. I remember thinking the other day that other team's fans must be getting really pissed at Manny Parra because he has gotten some hits in key situations. It's much easier to see our team objectively when you can put yourself in the shoes of the other team's fans and realize how pissed they probably get when Dave Bush goes 7 innings with 1 run or Gabe Kapler goes 4 for 5.
  15. And if they don't make the playoffs any time in the next few years? Then it's the player's fault, right TWR? You're right, BC. I think it was just a bad argument that quickly turned in your favor so I thought you started it http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. Here's one that you need to bid on quickly. Or, for a few extra bucks, this one is "buy it now".
  17. So you agree that there's no correlation between being good in interviews and handling pressure? No, I'm saying that Ned seems to be horrible at handling pressure. I don't know if that translates to the game, but you can almost always tell in an interview if someone has a handle on things. Ned does not do this well. If my manager had a press conference and she acted like Ned does in his, I would have a hard time respecting her decisions. Isn't this whole discussion of Francona speculation? I doubt any of us watched the Red Sox or Phillies enough to say with certainty that he's a great interviewer. Yes, for the most part it is, and Francona was brought up in the first place as a means of supporting Yost.
  18. I don't see any reason to say this if you don't have any evidence. All it says is that you're content with speculation as a basis for opinion. Prince is shy. There's a big difference between being shy while saying things that matter and acting all arrogant the way Yost does. Ned flies off the handle because his decisions are being questioned.
  19. This could be a stretch, but couldn't fastball speed be somewhat indicative of how the location is going? If a guy's fastball goes down drastically, it could be that he's having trouble locating it and trying to compensate. Just a thought.
  20. As far as how well Franona does in interviews that goes hand in hand with winning. Lot easier to be nice and happy with reporters when everything is going well. I can't say this with any authority, but I imagine Francona deals with more crap from the media than Ned will ever see. If they lose any games to the Yankees he has to answer to it. Ned gets annoyed with the Milwaukee media, and that is sad. Francona has to deal with the Boston media, Torre had to deal with the New York media for years. I'm not saying that I necessarily think Torre is a very good manager, but he wasn't an idiot with a media that is a million times more brutal than what Ned has to deal with.
  21. Is there any numbers for Sheets regarding his pitch speeds? I just wonder if his numbers would plot closer to Suppan since he's more experienced, plus the fact that he doesn't seem to tire until well over 100 pitches. It really looks like Parra and Villy is just inexperience, which leaves Bush without an excuse.
  22. That's an interesting read. It's great to see how steady Suppan is over the course of the game. It was also interesting to note how he goes down and then comes back up. It's no wonder he can eat over 200 innings a year consistently. I would assume that over the years, Manny and Villy will bring their numbers closer together when they stop trying to blow everyone away in the first few innings and pace themselves a little more, as well as being able to control that speed and placement.
  23. No. As far as the team results, it will definitely be good enough. But just because the team makes the playoffs doesn't mean Yost is doing a good job. I'm not saying that I definitely won't be satisfied, because his decision-making could get better and maybe that will help us get to the playoffs. But just GETTING to the playoffs does not make Yost a good manager. A start or two a week is not the same as starting an entire series.
  24. Anyone else have pictures? This is the best I can do. Oshkosh wasn't too terribly bad, but our drainage system in our parking lot is stupid and a large portion of the parking lot is basically a big valley. http://images.yuku.com/image/pjpeg/29225829508e25c2529c088124b6f3d955a4709.pjpg This was right after my roommate and I pushed his Honda Del Sol out of his parking spot which was next to the visitor spot (right in the middle). If you've ever seen a Honda Del Sol, you can probably see that it was mostly submerged. After hearing all the other stories, I can't really complain, though.
