  1. How do you figure Gamel will be ready this season? Maybe in a year he can play outfield, but not 3B this season.
  2. Being a super-sub screws things up when contract time comes around. As a team guy, I think that's his strongest role. But financially, it could hurt him.
  3. Having your agent demand a trade usually works out pretty well.
  4. Can anyone update?
  5. I just had this image in my head of the outfield two years from now being LaPorta, Braun, and Gamel. Three converted infielders hitting 40 homers each. I'm not sure how I feel about that.
  6. I played a few gigs there a few years back. We played at a place called T. Murtaugh's, which is decent but not a must-see. The place across the street was really cool, though. You walk through the bar and there's an area in back with an open roof, kinda like a courtyard, and tables set up and usually some decent music. I can't think of the name of it, though.
  7. I've actually heard casual fans explaining to other friends with them that you're supposed to boo former players. Sometimes I get so embarrassed. As for Carlos, not to get into this argument again, but he accepted a contract that was much larger than what we offered him. You can't fault players for things like that. If Prince gets traded and signs long-term with the Red Sox, after presumably turning down a long-term deal with us, I will still cheer him and hate the Red Sox. I've said this elsewhere; I'll boo Gary Sheffield. I will not treat any other player with the same greeting and make them comparable to Sheffield. Especially not someone that just recovered from cancer.
  8. I have no problem voting for Braun. I do have a problem with voting for all Brewers and trying to somehow get Bill Hall to the ASG. I don't understand that kind of stuff. The only players I could see voting for would be Braun and Sheets (if we could). Maybe Kendall.
  9. That's unacceptable. He should be swinging away and trying to drive in runs!
  10. That actually reminds me of something I was thinking about during the game. Does anyone have any insight as to how Hall would feel about being more of the uber-utility player again for a little while? I thought he would have been a better option at 2B also (defensively, at least), or, as you mentioned, playing SS with Counsell at 2B. It's not like Hall really needed a day off since he's only really playing against lefties. I can't really believe that Hall has regressed this much in two years in his late-20s, and not playing him at all right now seems pretty pointless. I just wonder if maybe Hall is more focused on earning back his spot at 3B and doesn't want to fall back into the utility role, but he's not going to do that if he doesn't face any righties.
  11. Someone needs to photoshop a Brewer jersey on that pick http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. What are you basing this on? You may not be able to remember his last hit, but there are plenty of stat sites where you can go and realize why Dillon is on the roster ahead of Gwynn. Dillon can also play most positions, as opposed to just outfield.
  13. This is correct for the most part. My degrees both would require further schooling, but the mere fact that I have any kind of degree got me the job that I have now and could probably get me much further in the field that I'm in if I choose to (I'm not choosing to). That said, it was nothing that I was planning for and no one should ever plan for that. There are a few exceptions (I recently heard that a History degree helps in the business world, I don't get it), but for the most part, if you get a degree like my Religious Studies degree, or as MS said, a Pychology degree, you better be prepared for the long haul.
  14. Ah yes, Spurling came on in the top of the 12th with bases loaded to attempt to get us out of a jam. Nothing against Spurling, but that just wasn't his place. By that time the sun had been pounding on me for the past 3 hours, but that was quite a game. And it was an absolute waste of a good pitching outing by playing the B team and only mustering two runs, both of which I believe came on Hart's late inning homer.
  15. Braun wasn't drawing walks when he batted cleanup earlier this year, either. And Prince had no problem drawing walks with an power hitter behind him. I really don't think the whole "batting in front of" a certain player thing has that much to do with anything. Edit: woops, I said it backwards. When Prince was hitting 3rd with Braun behind him, Prince had no problem drawing walks, while Braun still couldn't draw a walk with Bill Hall behind him. That's what I was trying to say.
  16. That was the last Sunday game that I was at, I think. Was that the 12 inning game?
  17. I could definitely be on board with that. I'm not a big fan of the "Hart protects Fielder" idea. I would rather just have a guy that gets on base batting higher in the order.
  18. There's not a chance in the world that Weeks would make it up to the plate batting out-of-order.
  19. We better win the Minnesota series. I'm not sitting in the pile o' crap Metrodome to watch us lose all weekend. I'll say 17-9. Forever an optimist http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. I think pulling Sheets was the right decision. How many times have we gotten on Yost for putting the team in a bad position so a player can get a stat? He didn't do that this time...he put the team ahead of Sheets adding another stat. I still don't like him, but I don't think that's something to get on him about. Now THIS I can get on him about. This is exactly why I don't bother going to Sunday afternoon games anymore. Every Sunday, Yost finds a way to get the entire bench on the field starting. Give Hardy a Tuesday off every other week. Give Fielder a Monday off every other week. Mix things up a little and give guys a break on random days. But don't do it all on the same day!
  21. Ted Williams would be given the Bonds-TO treatment if he played today. Can you imagine today's media spotlight being around when Williams played?
  22. I thought this was an opinion that a poster gave us from an anonymous relief pitcher (not that I'm questioning the poster). I could be wrong on that, but if that's the case, I don't trust the opinion of one relief pitcher. Either way, I would venture a guess that Pujols and Arod aren't very well liked around the league.
  23. I didn't hear the story, but I really doubt the only thing they were doing was wearing Fire Yost shirts. Now if only they were wearing something more subtle, like a "Yosted" shirt...
  24. I was there for the Dunn home run, too. Not a chance in hell that it was only 455 feet. Then again, that whole game was the worst baseball that I've seen the Brewers play since the last years of County Stadium, so it's quite likely that Dunn's homer just felt like it went about 600 feet http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  25. Very basically, some schools have certain classes with a high enough difficulty level that they weight them in order to keep the students that challenge themselves with these classes from seeing a drop in their GPA. The normal scale is A=4, B=3, etc. A weighted scale is, literally, A=5, B=4, and so on. The problem is that usually these classes aren't any more difficult than the same classes being offered by different schools that don't weight classes. Colleges are now on to which schools weight their classes and know that the GPA is probably inflated. The valedictorian of my class had a 4.3 GPA. This can depend on a lot of things. If you want to have a lot of choices and choose later, then there's no harm in applying to a lot of schools. The problem is that there is almost always an application fee, so it can cost $200-$300 to apply to a lot of schools if you go that route. I would say to get yourself a list of your top 3-5 choices and apply to those. Considering your scores, you shouldn't have a problem getting in to at least one of them. But worst-case scenario is that they all turn you down and you still have time to apply to your second list of schools. Just make sure to start applying as soon as allowable, for two reasons: you'll have time to apply to those other schools if your first list turns down, and there have been some years recently where some UW schools put a freeze on applications because the incoming class is already too big. The earlier you're in, the less you'll have to worry about the chance that this might happen.
