  1. It could also be that he took Mota out of the 8th inning role because he's been getting rocked and he's not really as good as his early season numbers showed. I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt for a long time, the same way you are now. At some point, there was a large enough sample size of stupid in-game management and idiot comments that I realized he's not a good manager.
  2. The closest I've ever heard is that Griffey and Bonds had a conversation once where Bonds got all pissed off about younger players juicing and he said he was gonna "do something about it." Even with the rumor of that conversation out there, I don't think there was ever a whisper of Griffey ever doing anything. Anyway, back on topic...man, that is a sweet swing.
  3. No offense, TWR, but I missed the part where you pointed out facts.
  4. Contradiction? If he factors so little into winning games, then what exactly is he doing a good job at? Pretty sure if I was Doug Melvin and I had a guy on my payroll for over a million dollars and he had little to do with winning games, I probably wouldn't keep him around. This same argument keeps coming up. Yost has nothing to do with the team winning or losing. Great, so I'm going to give the same response: then why do we pay him!?
  5. And Yost in the media. Who cares? Melvin, Yost, or any other figure in sports gives the same quotes and crap in most interviews. Melvin has specific strategic reasons for why he says some of the things he says. Even so, he's completely different than Ned in interviews. Ned just seems annoyed that he has to be questioned on anything. There was the one time when Melvin called us all internet geeks, but...well...we are. At least he was stating a fact and not the crap Ned spews out in every press conference. And it gets annoying to hear "Who cares?". It's part of his job. Guarantee you if there's a job description out there for MLB manager, one of the requirements is to deal with the media. It's part of his job, and he fails at it. As for what he does right? Who says what is right or wrong? Because of bunch of people write on the internet, it's right or wrong? That has to be the coolest job in the world if you can do whatever you want and no one can tell you that it's wrong. You could watch any baseball and ask the same questions about the manager. But I will guess that for every time you got something right, there were twenty other things that worked and nothing was said. This argument is getting really old. You just keep spinning your wheels on these things. Your entire post is speculation and strawman. A great example is in the bars. From the sounds of it, it may be some of the same people here. But we give up runs and you hear, "Yost sucks, why didn't he put in? or "Pinch hit you idiot". There are many more but you get the idea. Well they scream this stuff all game long. Well sooner or later you will get one right and then you can say "See, Yost is an idiot" But there were so many crazy things said before, you made 5 pitching changes and used 3 pinch hitters and its only the 7th. First of all, the bar comment doesn't seem necessary since you phrased it as an insult. Second, you can't make up a situation that you might have seen in a bar sometime and assume that the posters on bf.net are the same way. It's a crazy generalization and doesn't really add anything to this discussion. I guess you can never admit when Yost is right because that would hurt you case of hating him. I guess you didn't read this thread then. I've made several comments lately saying that I liked things that Yost has done. I'm not above complimenting him when I think he makes good decisions, and there are others here that are the same way. Don't take your generalizations of the fan population and bring them in here just because it's convenient.
  6. I can't imagine Ned would care for us much. And after Melvin's comments regarding the Dunn "trade" last year, he doesn't seem to like us either. This just doesn't give us credit for breaking the team's losing streak (I believe they won for the first time in awhile that night). Wasn't the IGT down until we lost again?
  7. Are you thinking of mlbtraderumors.com? It's not a stats blog, but I thought someone said the kid is 16 or something like that.
  8. I'd bet any team we thought was an 83-85 win type team and they outperformed that expectation we'd all say the manager did a nice job. That's a pretty broad generalization. I didn't mean to make such a generalization in my post as I'm sure it sounded that way. TLB hit it right on the head. There are so many Yost supporters that say "who else would do any better" and so many that don't like Yost that can only say "anyone would do better." It doesn't really add anything, and I think it fuels posts like Owen's (no offense) that basically say that the fire Yost thing is a knee jerk reaction. How many people were on the Giradi bandwagon? Not I http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif To add to this, I'd be willing to bet that if the Marlins had a message board similar to this one with similar members, Girardi wouldn't have been looked on as highly. The general population of fans are going to like a guy based on wins and losses and championships, but there are some that look at it a little more deeply. He never throws a player under the bus publicly. Yeah, this one I have to take issue with. Just recently, he threw Kendall under the bus because he "missed the steal sign." And that's only the most recent example. He's thrown everyone but himself in front of the blame, including the Miller Park mosquitos.
  9. The salary. Which is why there's no reason for them to take Hall since Hall's salary will be roughly similar to Roberts' salary. Doesn't make sense. Maybe this is more of what the O's are looking for...in which case, no thanks.
  10. Thanks, now I'll have Chicago in my head all afternoon.

  14. This is the most common response from those that support Yost. I don't get it. Don't get me wrong, I understand some reasons why people seem to like Ned...I don't agree with them, but I understand them. The problem is that the most common retort about anything regarding Ned is that he must be doing something right. I can't remember anyone naming something that he does consistently well. Even most supporters agree that he's not good with the bullpen. He was good with the young guys even though he now says that they're not young guys anymore even though he still called them kids in his press conference. I think we can all pretty much agree that he's horrible with the media. Hell, there are some days when I would take a Guillen press conference over one of Ned's. So what does he do well that justifies him keeping his job?
  15. What reason exactly do the O's have for wanting to get rid of Roberts so badly? I was under the impression it was either because they want prospects or because they want to shed his contract (or don't want to pay his future contract). Either way, I can't imagine why the heck they would want Hall.
  16. I would have to agree with that. I met some pretty cool Twins fans the last time I was at the Metrodome. I'll be there for 2 games of the series at the end of June as well. I think the switch to the National League coupled with the fact that we mostly stunk in the American League made it hard for the rivalry to get any legs. I gotta be honest though...I have to will myself to go to the Metrodome. I can't wait until the new park goes up.
  17. Not to mention possibly increasing his trade value by showing that he can hit righties. If he really wants to be traded, he's gotta make some teams want him. Showing his versatility would help that.
  18. I think you're missing the point, Owen. It's not that we consistently want Torres in there for multiple innings, its that the situation called for it in this instance. And its not that taking Villanueva out and putting Mota in was a bad decision if he had a reason for it, but his reasoning was that Mota is "the 8th inning guy." And yes, I understand that most managers do things that way, but that doesn't mean we have to sit here and like it. Of course there are managers that do things like that, but there are also some that manage with their gut a little bit. Putting someone in because he's the 8th inning guy or because he's the closer is completely robotic...it makes Ned unnecessary. Having Dillon bat leadoff and Kapler 2nd because they play the positions of the normal 1 and 2 guys? How much thought does Ned actually put into anything? And please don't use examples of Bucks coaches. That's completely unfair. I expect more out of Melvin than I ever did from Harris.
  19. Bill Hall is a much better defensive 2nd baseman than Dillon. Move him over to 2nd for the day and put Dillon at 3rd. This really isn't that hard. No one is saying not to play Dillon. I've been pushing for Dillon playing more all year. But playing him out of position is not what I meant.
  20. How about Yost's decision to play Dillon at 2nd? That almost gave away the lead in the 7th on the botched double play.
  21. Not really. He brought in Mota because it was a save situation and "he's the 8th inning guy". That's not very consistent with what he did today, where he essentially brought his "9th inning guy" in for the 8th. I think that's what gets me about his press conferences. He can make a decision on the field that completely contradicts the things that he's said in the past, then in the post-game press conference he'll defend it by making it seem like it was the obvious decision. He made a comment the other night that basically told us that he's a robot, then today he manages his bullpen differently. I don't get it. If we ever reach Game 7, I hope the good Ned shows up.
  22. So is he admitting he shouldn't have left Mota in there for the Washington game?
  23. Well, it's 62 for me...and that sounds cooler http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. The original post about stress was responding to a post that basically said TH does a bad job. The response was that we don't understand how much stress he is under. Stress is not an excuse for doing a bad job. Maybe he's not doing a bad job...I don't really care either way. But the whole stress thing came up as a response to a post that seemed to be using it as an excuse. It could have more or less stress than any other job...I don't really care. The members of my credit union don't need to know how stressful my job is, and they probably don't care. When we take jobs, we know that there's a certain amount of stress involved, and we know what the pay is.
