  1. Oh, but just wait until Braun pulls up next to Prince in his new car, or invites him over for a housewarming party. Braun is now making an obscene amount more than Prince.
  2. Since when do the Rays think they can spend money? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. Any chance we could change the title and make this a thread devoted to questions and ideas Owen wants to bounce off us for his show? Just a thought, and of course only if mods and Owen approve.
  4. Not sure who said it earlier, but I think it has a lot to do with fans booing when they think they should boo. A lot of these people haven't been following the team for more than 2 years, and they want success right away so they can get back to not paying attention. They boo at former players because someone gave them the idea that it was necessary, and they never learned any better. That's why there were a few people still booing Geoff Jenkins even though he worked hard and gave his entire career to this point to the Crew. Then again, I disagree with booing Carlos Lee or Coco, so I'm probably not the best person to answer. I think booing should be banned except in extreme cases like Splitter mentioned, or for Gary Sheffield. Which could also be said about every player on the team. What's your point?
  5. Man, even when he was a Cub I felt horrible for the guy. I didn't even realize he's only 27 years old. What a wasted career. I almost just want him to have one decent season before he hangs it up.
  6. My take is that Gagne struggled through 2 innings the night before and there were other guys that were well-rested. I don't think you ever HAVE to force someone's role. If you're looking for tidbits, check out the Designated Yost Thread. This is pretty much the discussion that's going on there right now http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. That would be fine if I thought Ned had the first clue what these players are thinking. He read about Gagne being embarrassed and wanting out of the closer role. I don't get the impression anyone cares to tell Ned anything.
  8. Thanks for the info on Shouse. Either way, I would have rather seen him against Pierre. Sure, Pierre pretty much stinks completely, but he stinks even more against lefties. And the reason I think it was a bad decision is because Gagne threw two innings the night before, and Mota, Shouse, and Riske were all rested. Listen to a Ned Yost interview and explain to me how this guy thinks that he's learning. Regardless of whether he actually is learning something, he goes up there and talks about how perfect his decisions are every time, even when they don't work. I thought he was learning something about bullpen management this past week, but of course, he didn't learn a damn thing.
  9. I don't think I could possibly disagree more. That's not guts, that's stupidity. Just because it "worked" doesn't mean it was a good decision. Why is it that if it doesn't work, he made a bad decision, but if it does work, he has guts? It was a bad decision no matter how you slice it. And Shouse should have been up two batters earlier. I just assumed he already was and would face Pierre, but then I saw Pierre come up and THEN Ned gets Shouse up. If Pierre would've driven one into the gap, it would've been too late. Also, can Shouse get ready in one batter? Would he have been ready for Ethier?
  10. Man, I hate when I rip into someone I don't know and then they turn out to be nice. I apologize as well. Why couldn't you just come in here and freak out on us, Owen! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. I wonder if there's anyplace to find info about the kinds of pitches players hit for home runs. You gotta figure 40 of Prince's 50 last year were "bad" pitches, and that's probably normal. Obviously there are times when guys just hit a tough pitch, but I would think a vast majority of home runs are on bad pitches.
  12. Between the new handling of the bullpen (which i'm really hoping stays), and this new stuff with the pitchers, it sounds like much more is being done. I'm starting to slowly gain some respect for this staff if they can fix some of this stuff. I just wish they could have done it earlier.
  13. I thought it sounded like an extreme compliment from Wainright. He was saying that even if you throw him a tough pitch, he can still get hits. But if you screw up, gone. That actually sounds a little different from the Prince comments from what I remember. I thought that other pitcher said that Prince is only a bad pitch hitter. Wainright was saying something more like, "you hope to throw tough pitches, then cross your fingers."
  14. People, you're doing it wrong http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. First of all, shouldn't it be: NED YOST IS NOT THE REASON THE BREWERS ARE LOSING ? This seems to be the argument that's beaten to death, and I don't quite understand it. If he doesn't have an effect either way, then there's no reason to be paying him a salary. I don't necessarily think anyone thought the young guys weren't hitting because of Yost, but rather that the entire team seemed completely lifeless, and that was a possible reason that they weren't hitting, and Yost didn't seem to be doing anything about it. I realize I wasn't in the clubhouse and didn't hear the conversations that did or did not happen, but considering his comments about Gagne, I imagine they weren't happening. If I remember correctly from the Gagne thread, Yost said he read Gagne's comments about being embarrassed. READ ABOUT THEM!? Isn't that a conversation that should have happened long ago when it was clear that Gagne was struggling? I think TLB hit it on the head. Those frustrated with Yost's in-game management just don't think Yost is putting players in position to be successful. Edit: I also want to add something that I posted in another thread. I do really like the new developments in the bullpen, and I hope they keep it that way. And the fact that the coaches are finding things to try with Bush and Villy make me think some things could be turning around as far as how upfront the coaching staff is being about resolving problems. Maybe that came out of the Monday meeting or something, but it's refreshing. My biggest complaints thus far have been poor bullpen management, and the feeling that nothing is being done about problems. Hopefully the bullpen thing will be resolved, as Ned is now talking about how much he wants to rest his bullpen. I can deal with this as long as he quits putting Gwynn in during RBI situations. I'm trying to be patient and hope these developments turn into something, but I'm still in the Fire Yost clan until I see it on a consistent basis.
  16. I must warn you. They don't make it in the packets anymore, at least not that I could find. You have to buy the pre-mixed plastic containers. But yeah, Ice Blue Raspberry Lemonade is the greatest Koolaid ever. They need to bring back the packets.
  17. Then who's Pinky?
  18. Wow. I knew who Inman was before I even came to Brewerfan.net. To be honest, I don't think I would care to have this guy's avid listeners showing up here. I know that's a poor attitude, but geez, has he even visited the site? If he goes to ESPN to get his baseball fix and he's somehow a Brewer fan, he must get really bored. How could you possibly ever know what's going on with the Brewers from ESPN?
  19. This reminds me of a Dilbert comic where a salesperson is standing in front of a graph and says something like... Salesperson: "I predict sales to be nothing for 3 years and then take a sudden surge." Dilbert: "Why do you think that?" Salesperson: "The surge was added to get the business case approved. The 3 year lag gives me time to get promoted." Dilbert: "What about accountability?" Salesperson: "That's where you come in."
  20. Thanks for the info DatHoser.
  21. I don't recall Weeks send-down as a rehab assignment. I thought they used an option. Maybe I'm misremembering.
  22. The point was that when Weeks came up, no one expected him to have to be sent down again at any point. If we had used up all his options with moves like the one you brought up, he wouldn't have been able to go down last year. And since one of his options WAS used last year, that makes him the perfect example for my argument. Also, if you didn't really mean your argument and it was supposed to be sarcasm, then you shouldn't have defended it a few posts later. Either way, jhart is right. Neither LaPorta nor Gamel will be coming up anytime soon. Probably September, but not to play a significant role right now.
  23. I imagine we didn't ever think we would need to use any of Weeks' options, either. You just never know, and moving guys all around messes with a lot of things. Just the paperwork alone would have the front office's collective head spinning.
