  1. I'm starting to feel this way about a lot of people that didn't like Gabe Gross. Especially the guys on WSSP. Seriously, you'd think this trade just made us a lock for WS Champs by the way they reacted. Gabe Gross was a great person, a great clubhouse guy, and a decent all-around player. He doesn't do anything particularly great, but he's still valuable for power, speed, defense, and plate discipline. It's not like he dominates, but a 4th/5th outfielder isn't supposed to dominate. He's supposed to be able to come in and cover a lot of bases, no pun intended. Gabe Gross did that, and he was valuable to this team in his time here. I will miss him as both a player and just a genuinely nice guy.
  2. I love Bill and Brian, which is why I would rather suffer through the horrible production than listen to the crap that ESPN will put out there. The only TV (note the distinction) announcer I would rather listen to is Vasgersian, and BA is fast-approaching that status in my mind. Bill is very entertaining, which is what he's there for.
  3. A old friend of mine that was studying to be a nurse said asked her professor about things like Hydroxicut. The profs response was, "If there was a pill that could make you lose weight without any side effects, every woman in the world would be taking it." Truth is, there is no such thing. There are always going to be side effects.
  4. I want to see Turnbow come into a game and pitch an inning of all breaking balls. As a matter of fact, I would like to see him do that 2 games in a row. All breaking balls, all inning long. Somehow or another he needs to get that pitch into hitter's minds like he did in '05. Otherwise, his straight-as-an-arrow fastball right down the middle of the plate is useless no matter how fast it is. He could throw it 120 MPH, but they'll still hit it unless there's that thought in the back of their mind that it just might fall off at the last second.
  5. I think I would rather deal with FSN than listen to ESPN's announcers act like they care about the Brewers. They'll find some way to talk about the Red Sox for 3 hours.
  6. I agree. I was just pointing out a flaw in the statement. Also, when looking at the game logs, it appears that when he was in there for longer stints, he had several days off before and several off after.
  7. Also, not sure if this has been posted yet because I don't feel like plowing through the last 10 pages of this thread, but Butler was 9-4 with a 3.34 ERA and 1.22 WHIP between A and High A last year. At A he was 5-1 with a 2.33 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP which got him promoted, and he just struggled a little when he hit High A. As much as I don't like moving Gross, I'm glad we got someone better than Max St. Pierre for him.
  8. Wrong. 1981 1982 Rollie Fingers had zero instances of pitching 4 straight games in '81 and '82. He rarely even pitched for 3 consecutive games in '81, and it was even more rare in '82.
  9. I suppose we could take Bruce off your hands http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. Here's a fun little line in the article that funkyplaidcoat posted (great screen name, btw): When was that trade again?
  11. Yup. With Cameron and Gwynn, there's really no need for 3 guys that can play CF if you can get a guy that can play the corners in the IF and OF. Also agreed. If it's a lefty reliever and we need to PH for the pitcher, we don't want to have Gwynn, Gross, Counsell, and Branyan on the bench. I realize that would probably have never been the case, but you get the point.
  12. I take a day off and there's only 10 pages on this? I'm disappointed in you guys http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif WSSP was brutal to listen to on my way back from the game yesterday. Apparently TGJ is a far superior player. I won't disagree that they're close given the difference in their talents, but far superior? This also makes me wonder if TGJ and Gross were both offered, and the Rays took Gross. That would be interesting.
  13. For what it's worth, Gross had an OBP of .462 in the Reds series.
  14. Line of the year so far http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. The difference is that what I said is my opinion and I stated it as such. It cannot be proven to be right or wrong, but it's how I feel. Your statement about hindsight is 100% wrong and it can be proven by simply looking at the IGT.
  16. Jaco Pastorius, the greatest bass player in the world, ever. Even if you're a casual listener, just listen to anything by him. You'll be absolutely blown away.
  17. You basically told him everything he did wrong in an unnecessary way, dwelled on all the past stuff, and offered no solutions. Yes, sometimes it's necessary to be hurtful, but in a constructive way. I don't see anything in your posts that make them constructive.
  18. This is a completely unfair assessment unless you have some kind of proof. At the beginning of last season, before the winning streak, I absolutely loved Ned Yost because I thought he was a great manager to have for younger players. He has a lot of fire and that was something those young guys needed. Now they need a game manager, and in my opinion, he's not cutting it. If he makes a good decision, I will give him credit. But those good decisions need to be made in critical times the way his bad ones usually are. He has made some double-switches before that I thought were brilliant, and others that I thought were stupid. And for the record, we criticize coaching BECAUSE we want to win baseball games. You can point all you want to the wins, but as someone mentioned earlier, I believe Yost is the difference between 100 wins and 88 wins. If we get 88 wins, everyone will point to how great Yost is because he has some magical ability to "win ballgames" as a manager. I just think that's setting the bar too low for this team. So he didn't have information telling him that it's not a good idea to pitch someone 4 days in a row? That was the point I was making.
  19. Please don't take this the wrong way Backupcatchers, as I've always respected your opinion. But considering Gagne's issues over the last few years, wouldn't it be safe to say that he really doesn't know how to play for an entire season? I wouldn't trust Gagne's opinion in this matter at all. He's not being paid to decide when he can pitch, Ned is getting paid for that. Maddux and Castro are getting paid for that. Doctors are getting paid for that. Gagne is getting paid to pitch when he's told, not to give his opinion. What's the use of having a manager? Hell, I could've done all the research required of going into the bullpen and asking him how he feels. He hasn't played an entire season in quite awhile, and last year he crumbled in August (which could also be because he went to the Sox). He doesn't really know how his body will react to his injuries over a 162 game season, so maybe he should be a little more cautious. There are some areas of life where you can push it and see where the limit is, but in this case the limit could make him $10 million on the 60-day.
  20. Quick question. If he's DFA'd and some team picks him up, they pay his salary, right? And if he's not claimed, he can go down to AAA where he can work on things in a less stressful situation. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm still learning some of this stuff dealing with MLB service time and options and things of that nature.
  21. Why is it that Ned didn't have this information that a lot of people here did? It really doesn't take experimentation to realize that it's not a good idea to pitch someone 4 days in a row.
  22. I didn't see the in-game thread for that day, but were people really questioning bringing in Shouse? Yes, people were questioning bringing in Shouse. And we were questioning it BEFORE he gave up the home run, so you can have your Hindsight Goggles back. I don't think it's necessary to react to a situation with some nonsense about "Hindsight Goggles" when you obviously haven't done any research on it. And I'm not sure how many times I'm going to explain this, but it wasn't that people were questioning the Shouse/Votto matchup. It's that the situation didn't call for pulling Suppan, and Shouse would have been better used in the 9th. Or not used at all, which would have made him more available to pitch the 9th the next day. Either way, Shouse was wasted on one batter. Thanks for pulling all that stuff out gfwisco. I really didn't feel like digging through the IGT http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. I agree with this. Something just needs to be done because he's wasting a spot. If they don't trust him and he's not going to pitch, then why bother carrying him in the bullpen when they can have someone they trust more? I think Turnbow could still be useful, but I'm not the one making the decisions, and the one making the decisions is leaving him in the pen to rot. What good is that doing for anyone? It's bad for the team and it's bad for Turnbow.
  24. I'm not a father so I can't really answer my own question, but is anyone ever really ready for kids? Do you fathers out there always want to hang out with your kids? Obviously there will be times when you don't want to, but if you really want to make the relationship work (with the kid, not the girl since she's not the problem), then you tough it out. Maybe do things with the kid that you like to do. Take him to a Brewer game, and bring some buddies along so the kid gets the full male-bonding experience. Just some thoughts. I know there are times when I've given up on things that I didn't think I was ready for only to realize that I'll never be ready for them, but that doesn't mean I can't work on it. I do agree with Ru Rah Rah that you did the right thing by being up-front with her about it. Most guys are too scared to be that open with the woman they're with, and at one point in my life I was one of them. Though I blame that on the girl http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
