  1. ^ Dickerson was definitely going to make the team before this came about
  2. JB12 - you would have to think defense will play a roll on who they decide to keep as the back up CF in case Gomez flops at some point (fingers crossed that he doesn't, really pulling for him)...
  3. I think you can pretty much bank on Hart starting the season on the DL, even if its just til April 6 if they don't play him in a spring training game. I just don't see how Reed makes it over Dickerson and/or Boggs. Dickerson and Reed are both lefties, but Dickerson is a plus defender and has more pop in his bat. Boggs is a switch hitter and probably a better defender. Just from watching the televised games this spring, Reed appears to have lost a step (at least) and has a poor arm. Can't say I disagree about Kotsay (for whatever reason appears to be a lock), but I'm not saying I like it - especially if they start him over Dickerson on opening day.
  4. I believe it means just the opposite. Dickerson and Boggs are both going to be placed on waivers and Reed will be added to the roster. That creates an opening at AAA. Kotsay will be in the lineup on opening day. He is in no jeopardy whatsoever. I don't think that happens and I sure hope it doesn't happen.
  5. Couldn't agree more on all accounts. I was just saying today that if Rickie stays healthy, last year may have been just scratching the surface
  6. Weeks 2B Gomez CF Braun LF McGehee 3B Kotsay LF Betancourt SS Kottaras C Almonte 1B Estrada P
  7. Let's not forget that Dickerson is a much better defender than Reed or anyone else that would fill in at CF if Gomez gets hurt or plays his way out of the lineup. Except maybe Boggs. He has looked pretty good out there although I don't think he is the defender in CF Dickerson is. I think defense has to weigh fairly heavily here when talking about backing up CF...just don't really see what Reed brings to the table. I might feel differently if he was right handed
  8. From watching this spring's televised games, I can say Reed does not even come close to having the speed he apparently once had. Give me Dickerson and Boggs if Hart starts the season on the DL
  9. I agree. Also a note on Braddock FWIW, Andrew Gruman of the Peanuts and Cracker Jack JS blog said he talked to Braddock the other day and he said that his velocity never gets up to speed until very late in camp
  10. I don't think Braun's rib cage/back problems have anything to do with playing OF, nor do I think him playing first base would alleviate them in any way. From what I've read/heard, he works the crap out of his core and from watching him he torques that area so much with his swing. I'm guessing that's where the problem stems from. As far as Gamel goes, I have no idea what to do with the guy. Trade him if you can get anything reasonable I guess
  11. Is there anything that Williams isn't ignorant about? I think Plesac is great on MLBN
  12. Nice YoungGeezy - I love it!
  13. I'm a believer! I will go avg/obp of .280/.335 with a pile if SB's and great D in CF
  14. Someone may want to tell this Seattle announcer that its Rickie Weeks, not Richie
  15. Betancourts range looked less than stellar there
  16. Dickerson is a scratch. Boggs moves to CF and Cruz takes over in RF
  17. Dickerson is back... Today's Schedule: Gomez out again; Betancourt, Braun return e-mail print By Michael Hunt of the Journal Sentinel March 16, 2011 4:38 p.m. |(0) Comments Phoenix - With the regular season drawing nearer, the Brewers will get about half their starters some playing time in their only under-the-lights game of the spring tonight vs. Seattle in Peoria (9 p.m. MKE time). But CF Carlos Gomez, who has been stinging the baseball this spring, will sit out his third consecutive game with back stiffness. The good news in center is that Chris Dickerson, who was involved Monday in a violent base-path collision with the Giants' Pablo Sandoval, will play. At the time, it looked like Dickerson was seriously hurt, but he escaped with a side-muscle tweak. SS Yuniesky Betancourt, who missed the last two games with a thigh pull, returns. LF Ryan Braun, who played two innings the last two days with a side strain, is back as well. 1B Prince Fielder, gets the night off. That means the Brewers will get another look at Erick Almonte, who is impressing the coaches with his versatility on a beat-up team. He's in the running for a utility job, along with switch-hitter Brandon Boggs. Boggs will be in right for Corey Hart (lat), who is still a week or so away from returning. Another guy trying to make the team, Mat Gamel, will DH for the second consecutive game after missing a lot of camp with an injury. He's expected to go in at third base for Casey McGehee at some point in the game. The Brewers need to look at Gamel over there before making roster decisions. Yovani Gallardo, the No. 1 until Zack Greinke (ribs) returns, will get a chance to stretch it into the fifth against Seattle. Greinke is still rehabbing by riding an excercise bike. The Brewers hope to get him throwing again soon.
  18. Watching todays game in exquisite HD right now on MLBN!
  19. Roenicke explains Rogers move By Michael Hunt of the Journal Sentinel March 15, 2011 12:26 p.m. Phoenix - Ron Roenicke said Mark Rogers' demotion to Nashville had absolutely nothing to do with his spring-training debut Monday in Scottsdale. Instead, Roenicke said the Brewers are getting close to the point where they need to find a temporary No. 5 and that Rogers wouldn't be ready to start on April 6. Other candidates are up to five innings and Rogers is only able to pitch one inning right now because of shoulder surgery. He said Rogers would benefit by getting more work in the mnior-league camp. Roenicke said he might use one or two pitchers for the temporary No. 5 gig. Because the starts will be nine days apart, the Brewers can't send that pitcher down and bring him back for the second start. Wily Peralta, Marco Estrada and Eulogio De La Cruz are in the running for the spot. Roenicke did not mention Tim Dillard. I have more on what the manager said when I get over to Goodyear.
  20. Greinke will be out til mid May
  21. Its sounding more and more like Lucroy will be ready opening day!
