  1. I guess my Prince prediction was wishful thinking. he is struggling to make contact
  2. Wow a guy gives up 4 runs in 5 IP to one of the hottest teams in baseball and now he is labeled a failure. His ERA is now 3.86.
  3. It's not a day off here and there. It's 6 games off already this year. Twice on back to back days. He played 147 games last year. The most he'll play this year is 155. Do we really think a 23 year old athlete can't handle 8 more games? Only 38 of the games were at the MLB level. I would guess that the back to back days off are on purpose. With winter ball it will feel like a lot more than 155 games. I would be more concerned if he wasn't getting any days off. With Counsell typically being the first bat off the bench he needs to be kept sharp. I think we will just have to agree to disagree here.
  4. It's good for him? How is he going to improve in the field if he's not on the field? How is he going to improve at the plate by not getting at bats? Again - he is playing. A day off here and there isn't going to make him forget how to play baseball. Its going to keep him from wearing down. He has never been through a full MLB season
  5. Weeks isn't a 22 year old rookie making boneheaded mistakes in the field. It's good for Escobar in the long run over the course of the season
  6. So are we going to platoon him all year? Because if that's what Macha is going to do, I'd rather bring up Luis Cruz who can fill the right handed role and have Escobar play everyday in the minors. Its not as if Escobar hasn't been playing. Sometimes the matchups really do dictate the line ups and as I mentioned before, he sure has looked like a guy that could use a day or 2 off - both at the plate and the field. I love Escobar as much as the next guy, but we should remember he is 22, in his first season starting, and coming off of winter ball and ST. Not a bad idea to give him a day off here and there IMO. Not like Counsell is horrible. Solid in every facet of the game
  7. If you're going to try to stretch a single into a double you may want to run hard out of the box. Just sayin...jeesh
  8. Left handed batters have an ops of .800 vs Garland as opposed to .659 for right handed batters. I think this has been a good opportunity to give Escy a few days to get his feet back under him. He had looked terrible at the plate as of late
  9. I'm sure Zaun is disappointed that Garland falls on an off day for him because he rakes against him
  10. I have no IGT skills what so ever, but I figured I would at least get the line up out there along with the explanations for the changes/replacements. Lets get this win and salvage a split here! Need some confidence so we can go beat up on a coldish Dodgers team
  11. Counsell, Gerut, Inglett get starts By Anthony Witrado of the Journal Sentinel May 2, 2010 1:11 p.m. |(5) Comments San Diego - The lineup looks different today for a few different reasons. First, Craig Counsell is at shortstop for Alcides Escobar again. I talked with Ken Macha during batting practice yesterday about this and he said he just wants to get Counsell some more at-bats while he's swinging the bat well. Seven of his 13 hits this year are for extra bases and over his last 10 games Counsell is hitting .429 (12 for 28) with a homer and eighth RBI while carrying a current six-game hitting streak. Second, Jody Gerut is starting in CF again for the hurt Carlos Gomez. That means Jim Edmonds is probably still not ready to play with his bad back. Macha wanted Edmonds to start today if he was healthy but that's not happening. Third, Joe Inglett gets his first start of the year in right field. Inglett has appeared in 12 games this season, all of them off the bench. He makes six left-handed hitters in the lineup today including four straight at the bottom of the order. BREWERS 2B Weeks SS Counsell LF Braun 1B Fielder 3B McGehee CF Gerut RF Inglett C Kottaras LHP Wolf PADRES CF Gwynn SS Hairston Jr. 3B Headley RF Hairston 1B Blanks C Torrealba LF Salazar 2B Zawadzki RHP Garland
  12. Looked pretty good to me. Way too close to take with 2 strikes and then cry about it along with your manager
  13. I liked the strike zone tonight. It was pretty consistent and personally I don't view Foxtrack being very accurate. But what do I know
  14. I think so and hope so. I really think his lack of work in ST affected him. Change up is a feel pitch and it takes live reps to get a good feel for it. I think he will be ok now. Rough patch. April has always been a tough month for him. We were mostly spared of his April struggles last year with him starting on the DL. Maybe thats the ticket...Good win
  15. Please predict SD comes back and wins. I'd rather not tempt the average gods
