'Tees edge Cardinals in series opener 07/19/2012 10:19 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/images/2012/07/19/F7eB3emh.jpg Manatees starting pitcher Brooks Hall struck out six in six innings as Brevard County defeated the Palm Beach Cardinals, 4-3 on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees won their fourth straight game as they edged the Palm Beach Cardinals, 4-3 in the series opener between the two teams on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium. Manatees starting pitcher Brooks Hall (4-3, 3.97) gave Brevard a quality outing as he allowed two runs on four hits in six innings of work. He walked three and struck out a season-high six hitters. In his last five starts, Hall is 3-0 with a 2.67 ERA. The 'Tees (16-11 second half, 45-50 overall) jumped on the board first to give Hall run support in the third inning. With one out in the frame, John Dishon tripled to right field and would score one batter later on a RBI single off the bat of Nick Shaw. Brevard County plated three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Cody Hawn and Brock Kjeldgaard drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. Joey Paciorek then stepped in and ripped the second triple for the Manatees in as many innings, to clear the bases and give the 'Tees a 3-0 lead. Paciorek would come home one batter later as Shea Vucinich singled to left to make it a 4-0 game in favor of the Manatees. Hall's only mistake came in the top of the fifth as he walked Mike O'Neill with two outs and then allowed a two-run shot to Starlin Rodriguez as the Cardinals (13-15, 44-51) cut Brevard's lead to 4-2. Eric Arnett relieved Hall in the seventh and allowed Palm Beach to make it a 4-3 game on a two-out RBI single from Mike O'Neill. Arnett retired the Cards in order in the eighth and then handed the ball to Greg Holle for the ninth. Holle allowed back-to-back singles to Cody Stanley and Nicholas Longmire lead-off the ninth, but then got Tyler Rahmatulla to strike out swinging. Then a passed ball by Brent Dean with Ronny Gil at the plate moved the tying run 90 feet from home as the Cardinals had runners on second and third with one out. Gil would fly out to left as it was too shallow for Stanley to try and tag from third. Holle would then battle O'Neill, who entered the game as the current Florida State League leader in hitting and was already 2-for-3 on the night. Holle got ahead of O'Neill 0-2 and forced him to ground out to third to end the game. The win was Brevard County's fifth in its last six games and the 'Tees improved to 21-18 in one-run games. The Manatees have also entered a three-way tie for second place in the North Division as they are just one game behind first-place Tampa. Brevard County and Palm Beach continue their four-game set on Friday at 6:35 p.m. Brandon Williamson (2-6, 7.01) will toe the rubber for the 'Tees as he is coming off of his first win in almost two months. The Cardinals will send southpaw Kyle Hald to the hill. He will be making his first start in the FSL after being promoted from Class A, where he was 4-5 with a 3.10 ERA. Box Score Brooks Hall is coming around a little. 6 IP 4 H 2 ER 2 R 3 BB 6 K 1 HR 7:4 GO:FO. He basically had one mistake, the homer. Eric Arnett and Greg Holle finished the final 3 innings in fine fashion. BC did just enough with the bats. John Dishon went 2-3 with a 3B. With Parker Berberet's injury, Brent Dean saw more action behind the plate. Nick Shaw had a H and a BB and Joey Paciorek had the huge 3B. Game Log No idea how deep it actually was, but the Cards did not attempt to run on Brock Kjeldgaard's arm with 2-out and down a run in the 9th. Respect. Palm Beach Top of the 9th Pitching Change: Greg Holle replaces Eric Arnett. Cody Stanley singles on a line drive to center fielder Reggie Keen. Nicholas Longmire singles on a ground ball to pitcher Greg Holle. Cody Stanley to 2nd. Tyler Rahmatulla strikes out swinging. With Ronny Gil batting, passed ball by Brent Dean, Cody Stanley to 3rd. Nicholas Longmire to 2nd. Ronny Gil flies out to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Mike O'Neill grounds out, third baseman Joey Paciorek to first baseman Jason Rogers.

So it was basically the equivalent of screening Rivera on the play by the opposing runner? Those are incredibly difficult plays to make(if I'm understanding this right). You have a guy a couple feet in front of you as you try and field a little white ball smashed at you while playing SS? Difficult, yes. But it is a play he should make every time.

Brewers 9 Padres 4 Box Score Hey, Nic Bucci, my #14 prospect, is alive and pitching. Nice! He gave up a homer to Jaff Decker in his lone inning. Decker has been around for awhile now and he has always raked, so don't feel to bad Nic. Zachary Quintana came in next and threw 4 very impressive innings. Quintana gave up only 2 hits and struck out 4. He also forced a fantastic 7 GO's against only 1 FO. Zachary has started off his career with 15 pretty darn good innings. Danny Keller also pitched well in this one going 2.1 perfect innings with a K. He needed that. The bats roughed up 7th overall pick Max Fried to the point where he had to be reomved in the 2nd inning. Clint Coulter (2-4 BB), Dustin Houle (2-5 2B) (#36), Jose Garcia (2-5 3B HR) and Malcom Dowell (2-5) (#54) all had multi-hit games. The outburst was out of character for Garcia and do notice that Dowell was in CF tonight. His bat probably profiles better there, but that has yet to be determined. Clean-up hitter Alan Sharkey (1-3 2B 2 BB) and 8-hitter Renaldo Jenkins (1-3 2 BB 3 SB) were on base all night. In his final AB, Jose Pena hit a 3B to finish 1-5. Pena just keeps punishing the baseball as this one was listed as a line drive. Game Log Quintana! AZL Padres Bottom of the 2nd Pitcher Change: Zachary Quintana replaces Nick Bucci. Jairo Gomez grounds out, shortstop Angel Ortega to first baseman Alan Sharkey. Adam Ford strikes out swinging. Christian Munoz reaches on fielding error by second baseman Renaldo Jenkins. Edwin Moreno grounds into a force out, shortstop Angel Ortega to second baseman Renaldo Jenkins. Christian Munoz out at 2nd. AZL Padres Bottom of the 3rd Jalen Goree bunt grounds out, third baseman Taylor Smith-Brennan to first baseman Alan Sharkey. Jaff Decker singles on a ground ball to second baseman Renaldo Jenkins. Jairo Gomez doubles (1) on a fly ball to right fielder Jose Pena. Adam Ford grounds out, second baseman Renaldo Jenkins to first baseman Alan Sharkey. Jairo Gomez to 3rd. Brevard County 9 Port St. Lucie (Mets) 7 Box Score Jed Bradley, what do we do with you? He was left in to suffer through most 5th inning and we have been suffering through his starts since mid-April. The most frustrating thing is that I am sure Bradley looked great in the 2010 Cape Cod League. It was during that time that Bradley was touching 97 with his FB. Along with the heat, he also flashed a plus breaking ball and had the perfect pitching body. The icing was the fact that he is a lefty. Fast forward to the 2011 college season. Now Bradley is more of a low-90's guys with mixed results. With the step back in stuff came a fall in the draft all the way to #15. I get the pick even, the Brewers bought low. This was the top lefty in the draft for much of the lead up to draft day and there he was sitting there with our 2nd pick in the round. They saw value and pounced. Unfortunately for them (and us), Bradley has taken yet another step back stuff wise. Most reports I come across now have him high-80's with the heater with an inconsistently nasty slider and a get me over change up. In these instances, I almost always hope injury, because if it isn't injury, it is the player. My plan is to basically ride the cautiously optimistic train and hope his stuff makes a miraculous jump back to that 2010 Cape Cod League stuff. In the end, it is probably up to Jed moreso than miracles. Thomas Keeling went 7 scoreless outs before giving way to the returned Alan Williams. Williams threw a scoreless inning. Casey Medlen closed it out for his 13th save. I sometimes wonder what would happen if you swapped the BC bullpen with the parent club bullpen. Would Medlen, Harvey, Williams, Keeling, Holle, Garman, and Marzec really be that much worse? At the plate, BC rapped out 9 singles. Jason Rogers went 2-5 and Reggie Keen went 2-4 with a BB and 2 SB. John Dishon went 1-5 and stole 3 bags. Hector Gomez has been pretty awful at the plate and in the field since being signed. Game Log Bat around in the 1st and feel great. Brevard County Top of the 1st Nick Shaw reaches on fielding error by second baseman Daniel Muno. Shea Vucinich singles on a ground ball to left fielder Rafael Fernandez. Nick Shaw to 2nd. Brewers 14 Diamondbacks 3 Box Score Okay, everyone can sift through this bute on their own. My plan is to highlight some of the stars of the night and season. First, the biggest bat for Maryvale has been Jose Pena. He strikes out about 20% of the time and he won't take a walk, but about half of his hits have been extra base hits. I wonder if it might be a good idea to swap Ruben Ozuna and Pena? Malcom Dowell was a complete unknown when he was drafted. He comes from football country but left that sport behind for this one. Now 19, he is back for a 2nd tour in Maryvale. He has been encased in the 9-hole, but I hope he starts to see some time closer to the top of the order. The production speaks for itself. Dustin Houle was the youngest player in last year's draft and about as raw as can be. I mentioned at the beginning of the season that I thought it was a great sign he was hitting in the middle of the order and I still believe that. Houle had 3 BB tonight and has shown an ability to control the zone even though not many are dropping right now. He has flashed some all right power as well. This is a 6-year project minimum, but the upside is there. Clint Coulter had a big game. I just get this feeling that he is on the verge of exploding offensivly for about a week. The pitchers were great all across rookie ball tonight. The primo-stud in this one was Jorge Lopez and my #8 prospect did not disappoint. He pitched the final 3 innings giving up 2 H 0 R 0 BB and 4 K. He is working those overall numbers back towards what we expected. Again, be sure to see the box and log for even more info. Game Log Oh yeah. Reeeeall Thick. AZL Brewers Top of the 7th Pitcher Change: Jonathan Pulley replaces Ben Eckels. Edgardo Rivera walks. Malcolm Dowell strikes out swinging. With Angel Ortega batting, Edgardo Rivera steals (2) 2nd base. With Angel Ortega batting, wild pitch by Jonathan Pulley, Edgardo Rivera to 3rd. Brevard blanks St. Lucie to sweep double dip 07/17/2012 11:33 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - A sacrifice fly from Reggie Keen in the third inning was all that the Brevard County Manatees needed as they shutout the St. Lucie Mets, 1-0 in the second game of a twin bill on Tuesday night at Digital Domain Park. The victory gave the 'Tees their second doubleheader sweep in the last four days. Eric Marzec (1-2, 3.03) started on the hill for Brevard (14-11 second half, 43-50 overall) and struck out a career-high six hitters in four scoreless innings of work. St. Lucie (11-15, 60-34) starter Rafael Montero was just as impressive as he fanned ten Manatee hitters in six innings. Despite Montero's ten strikeouts, the 'Tees were able to string together the only run of the game in the third. Brent Dean led the inning off with a single to center and two batters later Nick Shaw singled to right to put runners on the corners with one out. Keen lifted a fly ball to center, which was deep enough to allow Dean to score. Seth Harvey earned the win in relief as he threw 1.1 scoreless innings. St. Lucie did make things interesting in the bottom of the sixth as Daniel Muno singled with one out off of Harvey and then Mike Baxter walked to put two on. Greg Holle relieved Harvey and walked the first batter he faced as Cory Vaughn reached to load the bases. Holle would get out of the jam thanks to two infield fly outs. Brevard County and St. Lucie will close out their four-game set on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. as the Manatees will try and take three of four from the Florida State League first half South Division champions.

'Tees rally to win twin bill opener 07/17/2012 11:28 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees rallied in the top of the seventh inning and held on to defeat the St. Lucie Mets, 6-5 on Tuesday night in the first game of a doubleheader at Digital Domain Park. Down 3-2 heading into the seventh inning, Brevard County's (13-11 second half, 42-50 overall) rally started with a one-out walk drawn by Mike Walker. Walker was lifted for a pinch runner in the form of Franklin Romero Jr. After Brock Kjeldgaard walked, St. Lucie (11-14, 60-33) made a pitching change and brought in Jeffrey Walters. The first batter that Walters faced was Hector Gomez and Gomez was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Shea Vucinich would put the 'Tees ahead 4-3 as he doubled to left field to plate Romero Jr. and Kjeldgaard. Joey Paciorek would then strikeout but reached first on a wild pitch third strike that also allowed Gomez to score and give Brevard a 5-3 lead. John Dishon would close out the scoring for the 'Tees in the seventh as he drove in Vucinich on a groundout as the Manatees took a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh. Casey Medlen came in to shut the door but ran into trouble early as he walked Daniel Muno and hit Alonzo Harris with a pitch to lead off the inning. After retiring T.J. Rivera, the Mets were right back in the game thanks to a double from Mike Baxter that cleared the bases and made it just a 6-5 Brevard County lead. Medlen then walked Cory Vaughn as the winning run was now on base for the Mets. St. Lucie though would not complete the rally as Aderlin Rodriguez grounded into a 5-3 double play to end the game. Drew Gagnon (0-0, 3.04) got the start for the 'Tees and he went five innings, while allowing three runs on seven hits. Those three runs came in the second inning as the Mets sent seven hitters to the plate in the frame. Tommy Toledo earned the win out of the bullpen as he threw a scoreless sixth inning. Walker cut St. Lucie's lead to 3-2 in the fourth on a two-out, two-run homer, his seventh of the season. The Manatees were out hit 8-3 by the Mets, but all of Brevard County's hits went for extra bases.

Bw, I am not sure if this was made public, but I was planning on covering Maryvale for Sessile while he is gone. Looking good for them so far.

Helena 12 Odgen (Dodgers) 4 Box Score Tyrone Taylor. 3-4 2 2B BB tonight. He is stupid hot right now. My #17 prospect Chris McFarland went 2-5 with a 2B in G2. G1: Brevard County 6 Port St. Lucie (Mets) 5 G1: Box Score Somehow BC scored 6 runs on only 3 hits and 2 BB. Errors, wild pitching and extra base hits certainly helped tonight. Mike Walker went 1-2 with a HR and a BB. Nick Shaw and Shea Vucinich each had 2B's to account for the rest of the BC hits. Drew Gagnon started and was effective but a little fly ball prone. 5 IP 7 H 3 R 3 ER 2 BB 3 K 3:7 GO:FO for my #13 Brewers prospect (pre-draft). Tommy Toledo earned the win with a scoreless inning following Gagnon. Toledo is certainly one of the better relief prospects in the system. Toledo was the benefactor of a 4-run top of the 7th. Casey Medlen battled for a rough save giving up 2 runs in the process. G1: Game Log Gagnon was a cruise missile otherwise. St. Lucie Bottom of the 2nd Aderlin Rodriguez walks. With Nick Shaw batting, John Dishon steals (4) 2nd base. Nick Shaw called out on strikes. ***************** G2: Brevard County 1 Port St. Lucie (Mets) 0 G2: Boxscore Hand it to spot starter Eric Marzec. 4 IP 2 H 0 R 2 BB 6 K for Eric. Seth Harvey and Greg Holle finished the final 3 innings in scoreless fashion, each recording more than 3 outs. At the plate, Brent Dean got a hit even though he has not seen game action since June 19th. (Word has it that he got his hit, carried his bat with him to first, acknowledged the crowd with a triple bat flip spinning no-look catch and suddenly dissipated into thin air.) Dean did not appear on my pre-draft top-55 prospect list. Nick Shaw (2-3) and Mike Walker (2-3) each stayed hot for game 2. Jason Rogers went 1-3 but struck out 2 more times in this one. He is 6-36 in his last 10 with 6 K. Only two players in the G2 BC box score made my top-55. Mike Walker (38) and Seth Harvey (55). Yikes. And yes, that means Jason Rogers was outside my top-55 pre-draft. I may need to reassess that a bit. G2: Game Log

Odgen (Dodgers) 5 Helena 2 Box Score This was a quick game (1:46). Helena scored 2 in the 1st inning and could do nothing after. Chris McFarland and Paul Eshleman each hit a 2B and went 1-3. Michael Reed had 2 hits in 3 AB's and Adam Giacalone had 1, knocking in both runs in the process. That is it with the bat. Ryan Gibbard got the start and went 3 innings. Tedaldtada replied to slappzilla's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
It is pretty clear that the Brewers should sign 25 guys to 3 year 12 million dollar deals. We will never get burned by a bad contract again! And think of all of the surplus value! Of course, we would be fielding a team of 25 Jerry Hairston Jr.'s. -

Helena 9 Odgen (Dodgers) 8 Box Scores The explosive qualities of this offense were on full display tonight and Tyrone Taylor was the star. In fact Taylor has been a star since his 1st pro game. Taylor's career line is .410/.439/.721 in 61 AB's. He has 12 extra base hits, a 3:7 BB:K ratio and is 6/9 in SB attempts. He has scored 17 runs and knocked in another 11 in 13 games. Remember, this guy was supposed to be a project so the production is just that much more impressive. Guys with his physical tools and projection that put up big numbers are just plain exciting. I say let Taylor rake in rookie ball for 2012, get him more AB's in instructs and prepare him to start G1 in 2013 for WI as the CF and lead off hitter. Then, let his production determine how aggressive you promote him. Taylor was not alone for the offense today. Adam Giacalone has been red hot lately going .410/.489/.487 over his last 10. He has really stepped up since Michael Garza was promoted. Chris McFarland had 2 more hits as he is sitting at .375/.468/.425 over his last 10. Again, I expect the XBH's to pick up for Chris as he becomes more comfortable in pro ball. For now, his plus hit tool is on full display. Other guys with multiple hits + walks included Alfredo Rodriguez, Raul Mondesi Jr. and Michael Nemeth. An overloaded fielding section today, so here. Lot's of bad and lot's of good. FIELDING E: McFarland (6, missed catch), Rodriguez (10, fielding), Nemeth (2, throw). PB: Eshleman (3). DP: 3 (McFarland-Rodriguez-Giacalone, Rodriguez-McFarland-Giacalone 2). Pickoffs: Wall (Shines at 2nd base), Eshleman (Nam at 2nd base). The pitchers were pretty unspectacular, but Manny Ruiz did shut them down in the late innings recording a 6-out save. Manny is 23 and not starting in Helena after doing so very successfully in AZL last season. Color me confused. Taylor Wall and Michael Shaub were pretty uneven but neither were helped much by the D. Game Log Lots of thick innings in the game log. Sift threw at your own peril.

'Tees drop series opener to Mets 07/15/2012 7:35 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees fell 7-3 in Sunday's series opener to the St. Lucie Mets at Digital Domain Park. After starting the season 7-0 between Wisconsin and Brevard County, Manatees starting pitcher Andy Moye (4-2, 5.36) was defeated for the second straight start. Moye allowed a season-high seven runs (six earned) on seven hits in just 4.1 innings of work. Moye and the 'Tees (12-11 second half, 41-50 overall) fell in a hole early as St. Lucie's Cory Vaughn started the scoring off in the first with a RBI double. The Mets plated two more in the second thanks to a two-out double from Mike Baxter, who was on a Major League rehab stint from New York. St. Lucie (11-13, 60-32) put the game out of reach with four runs in the fifth inning. Moye hit Baxter with a pitch to lead off the inning and then Baxter went to third on a single by Vaughn. A throwing error by Moye on a pickoff attempt to first allowed Baxter to score and Vaughn to reach third as the Mets took a 4-0 lead. After walking Blake Forsythe, Moye allowed a two-run double to Richard Lucas which effectively ended his outing. Eric Arnett relieved Moye and walked two batters before allowing Lucas to score on a RBI single as the Manatees fell behind 7-0. Other than a home run by Brock Kjeldgaard to lead off the seventh inning, Brevard was held in check by St. Lucie starter Tyler Pill. The Manatees managed just four hits and struck out seven times against Pill. The 'Tees made the game interesting in the top of the ninth against reliever Jeffrey Walters. Mike Walker walked to lead off the inning and the Kjeldgaard reached base on an error. Hector Gomez then walked to load the bases with no outs. Walters was able to get Cody Hawn to fly out to right and then Joey Paciorek flew out to center as his fly was able to plate Walker as Brevard was now down 7-2. Shea Vucinich then singled to left to plate Kjeldgaard to make it a 7-3 game with two on and two outs. St. Lucie brought in Taylor Whitenton to put out the fire and he did as Reggie Keen flew out to center to end the game. Drew Gagnon (0-0, 2.41) will toe the rubber for the 'Tees on Monday at 6:30 p.m. against the Mets. All three of Gagnon's starts with Brevard thus far have been quality starts, but he is still seeking his first win as a Manatee. St. Lucie will counter Yohan Almonte (7-4, 6.08). Almonte has a 7.78 ERA at home this season and is 1-3 with a 13.50 ERA in four second half starts. Box Score This game got out of hand fast and puttered out in the end for the Sea Cows. Since starting 7-0, Andy Moye has had problems. Tonight, he gave up a season high in runs. I almost feel like a skipped start in these kind of situations would be helpful. Get him back on track using bullpen sessions and coaching not trial by fire. Eric Arnett recorded 8 outs without allowing a run but he did allow 4 BB and 1 H. Over his last 10 outings, Arnett had pitched 18.2 innings, basically the definition of a long reliever. I am still not sure if we have not seen the last of Eric as a starter. Wild Thomas Keeling finished with a scoreless inning. The bats were awful, but they faced the breakout Mets pitcher Tyler Pill. Great numbers for Pill thus far, so BC is not the only team to have problems handling his stuff. Jason Rogers fell under .300 as the top-3 went 0-12. Brock Kjeldgaard hit a bomb off of Pill. Hector Gomez and Andy Moye each had an error. That s 3 already for Moye since being promoted. Game Log One big hit away from a respectable final score. Brevard County Top of the 9th Mike Walker walks. With Brock Kjeldgaard batting, Mike Walker advances to 2nd on defensive indifference. Brock Kjeldgaard reaches on fielding error by third baseman Aderlin Rodriguez. Hector Gomez walks. Mike Walker to 3rd. Brock Kjeldgaard to 2nd. Cody Hawn flies out to right fielder Cory Vaughn. Joey Paciorek out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Alonzo Harris. Mike Walker scores. Shea Vucinich singles on a ground ball to left fielder Travis Taijeron. Brock Kjeldgaard scores. Hector Gomez to 3rd. Shea Vucinich to 2nd on the throw. Pitcher Change: Taylor Whitenton replaces Jeffrey Walters. Reggie Keen flies out to center fielder Alonzo Harris.

Ogden (Dodgers) 11 Helena 10 Box Score Just your typical Pioneer League slugfest that happened to end poorly for the good guys. Odgen walks off in the 9th tonight. Tyrone Taylor looks like a gem with 3 more hits tonight and his 3rd steal. 2 and 3-hitters, Michael Reed and Chris McFarland, each had 2 hits and a BB. Yonki Hernandez (2-4 HR) had a big game, but left after a ground out in the 8th. An incredibly poorly pitched game by everyone involved making it not worth mentioning any of them really. 4 more Helena errors tonight. There seems to be a crooked number in that space every night. Over the next couple of weeks, I will start to determine the biggest offenders. One for sure is Alfredo Rodriguez who now has 9 errors already, including one tonight. Now, get me to bed!!! http://d.awesomemyspacecomments.com/5/4f023900d3f91.jpg Game Log

Brevard hangs on to sweep double dip 07/14/2012 11:55 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees BRADENTON, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees were up 11-3 and allowed eight runs in the last three innings, but held on to edge the Bradenton Marauders 11-10 in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader at McKechnie Field. The win earned the Manatees a split of the four-game series and Brevard is now 9-3 in double dip games this season. The 'Tees (12-10 second half, 41-49 overall) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to a two-out, three-run homer from Brock Kjeldgaard. Bradenton would get two back in the bottom of the inning off of Brevard starter Brandon Williamson (2-6, 7.01) on a RBI ground out from Mel Rojas and a RBI single by Andy Vasquez. Brevard proceeded to score six more runs off of Marauders starter Matt Benedict in the next two innings, to take a 9-2 lead. The 'Tees rocked Benedict for nine runs on nine hits in just two-plus innings. The Manatees gave Williamson more of a cushion with two more runs in the fifth, thanks to a RBI double from Franklin Romero Jr. and a RBI single from Shea Vucinich as Brevard had an 11-2 lead. However Bradenton (13-10, 42-51) did not go down without a fight, as they racked up three runs on five hits against Williamson in the fifth to cut Brevard County's lead to 11-5. Williamson allowed four earned runs on nine hits in five innings of work, while striking out four and walking two. Tommy Toledo, making his first appearance with the Manatees since being promoted from Class-A Wisconsin, relieved Williamson in the sixth and did not fare well. Toledo allowed a lead-off walk to Kawika Emsley-Pai and then back-to-back singles to load the bases. Toledo then hit Kirk Singer with the bases loaded as the Marauders cut the lead to 11-6. Toledo then allowed back-to-back singles, as three more runs scored to make it an 11-9 game. With runners on first and second and no outs, Andy Vasquez represented the go-ahead run at the dish for the Marauders. Toledo was able to get out of the jam as Vasquez grounded into a 6-4-3 double play and Carlos Mesa grounded out to second to end the inning. Brevard was unable to plate the always important insurance run in the top of the seventh as Seth Harvey came into the game to close it out in the bottom of the inning. Just like Toledo, Harvey ran into trouble immediately as he led off the inning with back-to-back walks. After a sacrifice bunt by Benji Gonzalez put runners on second and third, Dan Grovatt singled to right to plate a run as Bradenton was now down by just one run. With runners on the corners and one out, Harvey was lifted for Eric Marzec. Marzec was able to get out of the jam and earn the save as Singer fouled out and Justin Howard went down looking as the Manatees survived. With the exception of Jason Rogers, every Manatee recorded a hit in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Vucinich led the way as he was 3-for-5 with three RBI. Kjeldgaard and Cody Hawn had two hits each, as the 'Tees were 7-for-13 win runners in scoring position. Brevard will head back across the state as they open up a four-game set with the St. Lucie Mets (10-13, 59-32) in Port St. Lucie on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Andy Moye (4-1, 4.67) will toe the rubber for the 'Tees as he looks to rebound from his first loss of 2012. The Mets will counter with Tyler Pill (2-1, 2.41).
