  1. Gopher, Your point about the upcoming draft is valid. As far as the Soria for LaPorta trade, what if we got Hochever as well? I know he has lost some luster, but he still has very good stuff and his still very young. I wouldn't mind seeing our coaches working with him trying to tap some of that, um, untapped potential. I can't stress enough how much this could stabilize our team. Just imagine how comfortable all of the guys would start feeling if Soria came in and saved even just 5 or 10 straight games. Everyone could loosen up late in the game and just play. I get the feeling that the guys always have the whole, 'I like Eric, but I hope he doesn't blow it again tonight' thoughts constantly running through their minds.
  2. I think you guys might be selling Soria a bit short. He has been drawing comps. to a 'lite' Mariano Rivera. So, if not LaPorta, what type of package would you be willing to give up for a guy like Soria?
  3. Closing baseball games is NOT easy, huh? Well, what if you could get one of the two remaining closers to not have given up a run this season? Would that sense of security be enough for you to trade Matt LaPorta? I think a fair deal would be: LaPorta DiFelice Cain/Ford/Fermaint for Soria A Baller under performing but has lots of the proverbial upside It's so hard with the way LaPorta has mashed at every stop, but just think how much Soria could stabilize this team. Sorry if this sounded like a sales pitch.
  4. One name that comes to mind is Brad Penny. Another is Vasquez.
  5. At least we're not the Mariners. 10 games under .500, spent a ton of money this past winter, huge expectations unfulfilled (honestly I thought they would be ok).
  6. Sheets' quote was taken verbatum from an e-mail that Sheets wrote in reply to Olney. I don't think there is any misunderstanding.
  7. "I don't think there are any more bats breaking than normal. Heck, I haven't broken a batter's bat in four years. I don't think the maple is any more dangerous; it's just wood." -Ben Sheets from Buster Olney's blog today on espn.com So he actually said four years. This is a joke right? *I would link it, but this all he said in the entire article.
  8. Did anyone see Buster Olney's latest blog about maple bats. Ben sheets was quoted as saying he didn't think maple bats were a problem because bats are not breaking more than they used to. He goes on to say that he hasn't broken a bat while pitching in three years. Is he just kidding? I'm not sure what to make of this.
  9. Yea, I heard he could be a pitcher or a hitter. Hitters that big usually do not have the easiest of times in the majors. If he has the arm, I think he should pitch.
  10. Saw Jenks at Copps in BField about 7 years ago. Saw Bogut and kukoc in downtown Mpls. walking down the sidewalk like 2 or 3 years ago.
  11. I smash my head against the wall five times immediatly after I wake up in the morning.
  12. thanks for the news! Do any of the players ever read this site, and if so, do they like it?
  13. Dear lexi, I guess I can't tell if you are intentially picking a fight with me, or if this is how you talk to everyone you think is stupid. You know absolutley nothing about me, my baseball skills, or how much time I spend watching minor league baseball. I don't know who you are, but we normally do not talk to each other like that in this forum. We try to have respect for another person's opinion no matter how much one might disagree. Back on the subject, if I had to bet my life on what position Gamel will play the most in the big leagues, I would immediatley choose designated hitter. Who knows though, maybe he will be a gold glover, right? On the position switch from infield to outfield, there is a great example right here on our team. Bill Hall had plenty of trouble making the switch and he was a major league quality infielder moved only to make room for J.J. He still is not above average out there, although he is progressing somewhat.
  14. I guess I am just assuming, but it's not a totally absurd asumption. He is maybe the worst fielding third baseman in the entire league, majors and minors, so I'm guessing he won't be above average in the outfield. He has a better chance at being an average outfielder or a below average outfielder. So, in my opinion, he will be a below average outfielder just based on what I have seen from him in the field so far. Also, it's not a given that a switch to the outfield will make anyone a better fielder. I was a third baseman when I played and anytime I would shag fly balls or play outfield in practice, I would have trouble judging the ball off the bat. People just assume it is an easier position to play, but I have learned to respect what those guys do out there.
  15. thanks for the correction. He is impressive, isn't he? I still like Brewer better.
  16. I am extremely excited about LaPorta, Jeffress, Brewer, Gindle and LuCroy as well. I also believe that Alicedes will be a starting second basemen in this league for a long time. Gamel is, at best, a poor outfielder and an awful thrid basemen. He seems like an Oakland kind of guy, where he could DH. He sure can hit though. Cain, Gillespie, Ford, and Fermaint all have high ceilings, and you have to think at least one of them will reach it. My favorite guy might be Brewer though. He just gushes with talent, and he could easily supplant J.J. if Hardy doesn't progress from where he is at. We have a ton of quality hitters coming our way.
  17. Booing a guy for screwing up at work just seems ridiculous to me. I know it is part of baseball tradition, but I promise you it would be a differant story if the everyday fan ever got booed at their job. Can you imagine spectators booing construction workers, bus drivers, or teachers. I just get visuals of a full class of high school students booing their math teacher because he makes a calculation error on the board. That being said, I really hope we don't get the reputation as having a bad fan base. We can barely get players interested in playing here as it is. We need fans that will live and die with this team, as most on this site do, not people who turn on the Brewers just because they have a tough stretch. This is the best team we have had in years, and they should be treated that way. I would argue that our fans have become tougher on the team since they started playing well.
  18. Every report I have heard says he is much more advanced than his brother at the same age. He has more power and plays a very good center field. He reminds me of a better Torri Hunter. He is definitley faster than Hunter.
  19. I could see Prince being the league MVP and Braun being the team MVP. Anyone else? Congrats to Braun, will this ever end?
  20. This guy is hands down the most talented player in the minors right now. He is going to be fun to watch for the next fifteen years unless he's killing the Brewers. He is one of the most talented players to come up in a long time, easily blowing Delmon Young out of the water. Granderson, Pence, Chris B. Young, even Grady Sizemore do not have the talent Upton does. When you think about, there is a ton of exciting talent under 25 right now in the bigs.
  21. I am sticking with the Crew as the division winners. I just can't give up yet. Its only Aug. 2nd and there is still like 50 games to go. Our roster is playoff worthy, so if they don't win the division, it's only because they are too young still.
  22. he's in the lineup.
  23. The only reason the Rangers would want Weeks is to play CF. Kinsler is entrenched at second for them for the forseeable future. I hope DM realizes how much Weeks and Gwynn mean to guys like Hart, Fielder, Hardy, and Hall. These guys are so close, I just think we can't break them up. They remind me of the core of the mid-90's Indians with Lofton, Belle, Manny, Thome, etc. If we get Gagne, I hope we only give up guys like Brent Brewer, Cole Gillespie, Zack Jack, Dillard, Hernan, Alicedes, and so on. At this point, LaPorta, Jeffress, CV the younger, Parra, and I think Gwynn should be untouchable. I think TGJ has a bright future if he stays together with this group.
  24. I just realized that our top prospect in the minors right now is Matt LaPorta according to this site. I agree and everything but I can't believe how much movement there has been in the last few months. This is just another indicator that the Brewers are going for it hard this year. They are not sitting back and taking their time with guys like Yo and Braun. Those two are pretty special though, I love the YOUNG Brewers, and they are about to get younger with these picks stemming from Coco and Linebrink. I know someone asked how strong next years draft is and from everything I have heard, it is comparable to the Prince and the Braun drafts. Especially if Porcello and Brackman don't sign.
  25. You have to admit the Brewers are pretty expert drafters, so having 5 of the top 45 picks makes me feel very happy. Of course we would have to say goodbye to Coco and Linebrink for next year. I'm not sure what I would rather have. If money was not involved, I would much rather have the proven veterans than the draft picks. I just keep thinking of all that young talent we could add in such a short time.
