  1. So when do we find out how many picks this guy will be worth next year? I hope two first round sandwich picks. Could the Brewers even afford that? This is going to be fun to watch. Its kind of sad this is all I can think about during all this.
  2. This is really a bad break for our prospect conveyer belt. How long do they wait to make announcments on these types of things? Maybe this is why the Brewers took a couple catchers in the first ten rounds of the last draft. Maybe they knew something was going on. Purely speculation. LuCroy sure has looked good so far at least.
  3. Milwaukee Gets: Bedard bullpen arm Baltimore Gets: Carlos V. Inman A. Escobar Seems like a lot to give up for Bedard but he is leading the league in K's, plus he would be under our control for two years I think. I'm not sure why Baltimore would do the deal unless they really think they have no chance for two or three years, and they might. We would be losing three of our top 20 or so young guys, but Bedard would be another ace to lean on for the Brewers. It is such a longshot, but I would love to get Bedard.
  4. I just don't think Lofton is a good fit for our Brewer's. He would start once or twice a week at most, and I'm not sure if he would be okay with that. I would rather keep Gwynn personally. Now if we could get Otsuka, Gwynn is as good as gone. I'm not sure if it would take much more to get him either. Maybe they would rather have Parra instead. I would do either deal if I was the Brewers, and really, it wouldn't be a bad move for Texas eiither.
  5. The way I took it was as the ball approaches the plate, the new mark on the ball can be seen as it spins. Thus the mark is throwing off Barry's read on the ball because he can't pick up the movement/spin/center of the ball as easisly. I know Ted Williams always said he could read the lettering on the ball as it spins, so maybe this slight differance in the appearnace of the ball as it approaches the plate is throwing Barry off.
  6. Sounds great. Are him and Jeffress on the same staff? That would be a real nice combo to have come up together in a few years. Good stuff.
  7. Let me start this off by saying I checked the first five or so pages of trade threads and could not find a Gagne one. Also, Texas seems to have made it clear that Gagne will be the one to go, not Otsuka, based on his contract, age, etc, so I started a new thread for Gagne talk only. We all know DM is very comfortable dealing with the Rangers and I'm sure the Brewers would love to add Gagne. So what would it take to get him? Buster Olney thinks he will be the most 'valuable' piece on the summer market. He said this on Saturday nights' BBTN. Here's my proposal: Gagne for Bush Aquino Brad Nelson or TGJ I don't know if this would be enough to outbid other suitors, but my thinking was the Rangers would jump on the chance at a pitcher of Bush's caliber. What other contenders out there can offer a starter of the quality of Bush or Vargas in a trade? That fact might help us out the most. One of those two will be traded during this month. They know that Yo needs to be in the top 5. They will not let him sit in the bullpen long. I also want to keep TGJ. He may not be his dad but he will end up being an All Star at least once, I just know it. I would part with him at chance for Gagne though.
  8. I'll second that nomination. But yeah, those stats are awesome. I just am so happy right now. The win today must have really stomped on the hearts of those cubbies fans.
  9. I think the Brewers have drafted the top player on their board under Jack Z. Then, as the prospects advance and develope, they prepare the M.L. roster for their arrival. Some examples of this that come to mind are trading away Overbay to make room for Prince, signing Graffy and Counsell instead of a big name to keep a spot open for Braun, and moving Bill Hall to center to make room for JJ. I know JJ had the spot already and got injured, but Hall played well enough last year to keep that spot on most teams. Also, we signed Koskie around the time of drafing braun but that was always viewed as a stopgap. Saying LaPorta was drafted on need doesn't really fit either. He will have to perform at a very high level to tread his way through all of the Brewers' corner outfield prospects. Yeah, if he moves along like Braun, that would be amazing, but there will be some strong competition. I like the strategy of the taking the top player availible, because as long as you don't sign anyone to bad contracts at the ML level, you can always just trade away the depth for a weakness. LaPorta may have seemed like a reach to some people, but I just think the Brewers have no problem taking somone they rate higher than most other teams happen to. I look at LaPorta's resume post draft and i can't believe he was not higher on other draft boards. Just the fact that he was a senior must have dropped his stock unkess his defense is just really bad.
  10. I don't think the Brewers will bring him up this season. With the way they have handled Yo, Inman won't get a sniff until at least August next season. Yo didn't even get brought up last year for a team out of the race and in need of pitching even though he was by far our best pitching prospect. I think the Brewers know what they have in these two guys and they will be groomed as starters only and I don't think anything will change that. That means no Yo in the bullpen for the playoffs this year or ever. If Yo comes up, it will be to replace Vargas in the rotation. Same thing for Inman next year, if he comes up, it will be as a starter.
  11. I'm very ok with the pick. If LaPorta turns out to be good though, everyone needs to back off of the crew for any future 1st round selection that is a bat. Deal?
  12. well done my friend. I also was attracted to this site becasue of the excellent coverage of the minors and the draft. I am glad you are here to keep us informed.
  13. You know, it might be a good idea for them to trade Big Z. They have Lilly, Hill, and Marquis all throwing well for them, and they could really use some young talent to help them towards the future. Plus he is going to cost a fortune to resign and he is a total head case right now anyways. The Mets love players like Zambrano, and he will fit in very well with Delgado, Beltran, Pedro, Reyes, etc. So heres what I see happening: Cubs get: Lastings Milledge Aaron Heilman Phillip Humber Mets get: Carlos Zambrano Jaque Jones Bob Howry Lots of character issues involved with this trade, but I think it works out pretty nice for both teams, especially if the Mets sign Big Z to an extension right away. Let's be honest, Big Z still has amazing stuff and he could be a monster in the playoffs. Who gets the better deal? Does make you fear the Cubs more or less for next year? What should the deal look like if not this one?
  14. Yes I would. I don't know if that would be enough to get those two though. Might need to throw in Vargas or Bush to get that done. Man, that would be a blockbuster though.
  15. I agree Tbadder, I wouldn't have any problem with them taking six pitchers in a row after they get Heyward, Moustakas, Mills, or Wieters. Even if they took Dominguez, i would be happier than if the took Aumont.
  16. According to a few high ranking scouts, Aumont has worked out a pre-draft deal with the Milwaukee Brewers. Well, here's hoping that this guy is good. Now I kinda hope someone takes him in front of us. Oh man, this is going to be interesting.
  17. Nice post PeaveyFury, I agree with everything you have said. I just wanted to add a few more points. Both these guys do not have horrible contracts, I believe both are free agents after this year. We get picks back when we lose guys like them as Peavey said. Also, I think it is very important to remember that Jermaine Dye is a serious threat to add to any lineup. He won a World Series MVP a few years back and finished in the top five in MVP voting LAST SEASON! Plus whoever said that Dye needs to be surrounded by better players in order to play well must not think that Prince Fielder and JJ Hardy are for real at all. I do not think I can express properly how much Dye would help this team. I'd even take Garland over Buehrle if meant we could add on Jermaine Dye.
  18. I was just about to add Law's comments up there indiansfan, but instead I'll just comment. Wieters would be a very good value pick for the crew if he falls to number 7 however he is gonna cost a boatload to sign. That, along with questions about his production, would make this a pretty scary pick for the crew. All that being said, I think the Brewers can't really go wrong by choosing Wieters. IMO, he would jump right ahead of Angel as far as our catchers go. So heres a question: Who would you rarther have right now, ignoring money, Matt Wieters or Angel Salome. I vote Wieters.
  19. Matt Dominguez is a nice player but if we take him with Moustakas and Heyward still on the board, I might loose my mind. I realize Moustakas has some financial concerns associated with him but I have also read various reports that he won't ask for that much. Plus with the effect of the new rules in place, I think we have a better chance at signing whoever we take.
  20. why on earth do you have slome ranked so low? I'm just curious... Well it's not that low. Salome is still for sure top 12 in our system, but his age and level leave much more minor league baseball in front of him before we can get a true sense of his legitimacy. Like I said before, I see a speedy estrada at the plate and a yadier molina 'lite' type behind the dish. He also has some injury history to worry about. I believe in the guy, he is definitly the best catching prospect in our system, but losing him for a chance at a ring is worth it to me.
  21. The Sox are getting ripped off was the point. Inman and Solome aren't enough alone to get Buerhle alone and then you throw on jetsam like Mench to lower the value you give up. I think pogo said he wouldn't trade those two for Santana or Vladdy. The Sox wouldn't think twice about Inman and Angel for Beuhrle. He would be in Milwaukee within hours. I would have a major problem with that deal. Also, i was trying to convey the point that Vargas and Mench still have plenty of value to non-contending teams trying to rebuild. Just because they can barley carry their weight for the Crew doesn't mean the Sox couldn't really use them. They would be shedding payroll and paving the way for some of their prospects to come up and contribute. It seems like I am just trying to rationalize a scenerio where Vargas and Mench have value, but they are no means the centerpiece of the deal.
  22. this trade proposal is like a video game prosposal...you just unload the players you dont want, plus the teams two best prospect past yo and voila! dye and buehrle... wouldn't trade inman and salome for those guys...i wouldn't trade inman and salome unless i was getting vlad guerrero or johan santana... So are you saying that the Brewers or the White Sox are the ones getting ripped off? I thought it was a pretty fair trade all around. Yeah, the Sox get two of our top three prospects, good for them, but neither of these guys is within a year of the bigs at least, good for us if we trade them. Inman is much closer, as he seems to be on Yo's timetable, but Angel seems a few years away at least. As stated in the little blurb on ESPN MLB Rumor Central, if the Sox were going to trade these guys, they would want mainly prospects in return so they can try and 'rebuild on the fly'. This trade allows them to do that IMO. Also, Vargas and Mench are very servicible if not average major leaguers. Vargas is being pushed hard by Yo and CV for that rotation spot, and Mench is pretty much a spare part for this team. Even though these guys are looking like the weak links on a contending team right now, there are still a ton of teams who would definitley want these guys. Vargas fits in Chicago because he acts as a stopgap until Inman, Broadway, Haeger, or whoever come up and take his spot. Mench fits either as Dyes replacement or the main backup for a guy like Ryan Sweeney or (gulp) Brian Anderson, and this would fit their rebuilding plans. Dye could come to the Brewers with his World Series MVP and ring and mash for two or so years in the corner OF for us. Jenkins would definitley be let go next year, and Hart would start in the other corner full time next year while he platoons with Jenks and Dye for the remainder of this season. Buehrle also pitched great in those playoffs for the Sox and is having a very strong season this year with the no-hitter and all. He could take Vargas' spot and Yo and CV could remain as our injury replacements for any of the starters. To me the one thing that really holds this trade up for the Brewers is the money we would take on. But Jenks will be gone after this year, and I know Beuhrle isn't tied up for long, so the financial hit could be short-lived. Besides, if they help us win a championship, Mark A. won't care what he paid for them. Lastly, on not wanting to trade Inman and Salome unless you get Vlad or Johan, I think that's a little stiff for those two. I hope you are right about them though. I have much faith in Inman, not as much as some on this site, but I think a lot of things have to go perfect for Salome to really prosper. Right now, I see him as some sort of mixture of Estrada and Y. Molina. He's a little faster though I guess. In my opinion, Salome is less valueable than Yo, Inman, Gillespie, Fermaint, Jeffress, Gamel, Brewer, Braddock, Cain, maybe even Alicides and The Hurricaine. I might be forgetting someone but I think he is one of our shakier top prospects. We are getting a top five MVP vote getter from last year and an extremely solid number five pitcher, number two or three on most teams, in return for these guys. It's a World Series or bust during these prescious years with this group and this deal would put us closer to the goal than ever.
  23. Moustakas, Moustakas, Moustakas, how come I just don't believe that it's going to happen? with the 7th pick in the 2007 MLB Draft, the Milwaukee Brewers select Phillipe Aumont That has been playing so clearly in my head for the last few weeks that I have no doubt this is who the Brewers are going to to go with if he is still availible at 7, which he should be. You know what though, give it to me. I think out of Jones, Rogers, Jeffress, and Aumont, we should be able to get at least one all-star appearance. It might be as a closer as none of these guys seem to have great second tier stuff but that's fine with me. I think I'm keeping my expectations low on these guys. I know if we got Moustaka or Heyward i would probably be happier at the time, but both those guys are far from sure bets as well. I'll take the pitching depth please. On a side note, exactley how many selections can the Brewers make this year? How many selections do you think they will make?
  24. Vargas Mench Inman Solome for Buehrle Dye might be enough to put us over the top Weeks (when healthy) Hardy Braun Fielder Dye Hall Hart/Jenkins Estrada plus Buehrle takes Vargas' spot. Those are two solid upgrades in my opinion. I think Buehrle could thrive in the national league. Do you think this is enough for these guys?
  25. Dukes for PTBNL (Brad Nelson) Would have to think about it I guess, but Nah.
