  1. I think Mertz isn't 100% yet after last week and they ran the ball as much as they could so that he could be put in a position to get hit as little as possible. On the read option play he ran in the 2nd half he ran out of bounds as soon as he got the first down; historically he has not shied away from contact.
  2. Thank God for Georgia. Can't handle Iowa as #1.
  3. Fantastic choke job by Penn State. Just their luck they knock Penn State's QB out and they have to put in a backpack who plays awful.
  4. Odd that the Cowboys are releasing him as his entire 2021 salary was guaranteed. Why not hold on to him through the end of the year? They're only four games into the season and they're in first place. Must be something else there.
  5. The last two years, yes. The last four years, no. The 2018 recruiting class had one low 4-star according to 24/7, Jack Sanborn. 2nd highest rated recruits that year were Nakia Watson, Aron Cruickshank, and Boyd Dietzen, none of whom are still with the program. In 2019 they had Brown and Mertz, but the only other 4-star was a low 4-star in Tippman and he's been good enough to push a senior 4-star out of the starting lineup. Brown has been hurt - missed all of 2019 w/shoulder injury and couldn't practice that fall, then no spring practice and limited fall practice in 2020, then had a concussion in fall camp this year and missed more time. For the 2019/2020 recruiting classes, keep in mind the loss of practice time in spring and fall of 2020. That makes it hard to develop your young players. The OL right now is starting two mid-3-star tackles, a former walk-on at LG, and a redshirt sophomore and redshirt freshman at C and G.
  6. There is a lot of truth to this. I manage people who are 22-25 and a couple of months ago when they didn't seem to understand why I asked them to do something, instead of spoon-feeding them the answer I asked them in a very non-threatening way why they thought I did in order to challenge them to think. Nobody was criticized for their answer; some people offered answers to which my reply was usually along the lines of, "that might be part of it... why else do you think I ask you to do that?" At least one of them complained to my boss's boss that they felt intimidated.
  7. CBS 2 in Chicago STILL hasn't switched over to the game yet...
  8. Those highly ranked recruits are freshman and redshirt freshmen. Their starting tackles were mid-three stars and one starting guard is a former walk on. The young guys weren't able to practice much last year and Brown was hurt in 2019 so he hasn't practiced much even though it's his third year. That being said, Rudolph needs to go. Not only is he the o-line coach but he's also the running game coordinator.
  9. "Big time game changers" are few and far between at all but about 4-5 schools. When is the last time that someone in the Big Ten other than Ohio State had one? The highest drafted non-Ohio State Big Ten QBs since 2012 (Wilson & Kirk Cousins) were Christian Hackenberg (late 2nd) and CJ Bethard (late 3rd), and I'm guessing that you wouldn't call either of them "big time game changers".
  10. Who ever thought he was? Uninformed fans who were calling for Mertz to get benched.
  11. I don't think that was the O-line's fault, it was two blitzers coming from that side between two DL and only one RB to block. It was a good blitz design.
  12. I know that technically it was a legal hit, but I have an issue with going in like that and making no attempt to tackle and wrap up. You hit someone harder when you try to drive your shoulder into them compared to proper tackling form with your head up.
  13. If we just block people with less than 100 posts from commenting you solve 99% of the problem. How do they get to 100 posts then?
  14. They damn near recovered it, and what had Wisconsin shown to think they could drive the field in under 30 seconds?
  15. I started a game thread - please place Michigan game posts in that thread
  16. So as not to overrun the other Badgers thread. Good drive there, FG is ok - when you get the chance to make it a one score game you take it.
  17. Why do people think it's Chryst and not the QB/OL?
  18. Welcome back.
  19. Can we lift the swear filter for this thread?
  20. That should be a bannable offense...
  21. Other than the facemask penalty, Nijman played fairly well against Bosa. They were chipping the heck out of Bosa, but you didn't hear them talk much about Nijman. One sack for SF, none by Bosa. That's a win for Nijman.
  22. Smith, Gary, and Clark need to step up now
  23. Unless it's with less than 5 seconds on the clock.
  24. And they keep trying even harder.
