  1. A guy who intrigues me for the Bucks second round pick or as a free agent is Gary McGhee of Pitt. Didn't have huge numbers, but when I watched him play he definitely passed the eyeball test - very athletic for a big man (listed 6'11", 250), playing in Pitt's system probably stifles the numbers their players post, but can't knock the competition he played against. Modest numbers (6.9ppg, 7.7 rpg) but I think he's the type of guy who could be a better pro than college player, especially coming out of Pitt, and would make a good backup PF and role player.
  2. Says Bucks on the clock... Charlotte already has a proposed trade for the #7 pick? Edit: nevermind, said picking for Sacramento
  3. That's the point. We would be in favor of trading Bogut if this was a draft class like 2003 or 1996 or maybe 2007 or even 2008. But this is looking like a weak draft class, so why not wait until it's a stronger draft? No point in dumping your strongest trading chip when there is a weak draft class and nothing to build around. The answer is getting high lotto picks. Not quite - the answer is getting high lotto picks in years where there is talent and depth in the draft. And with the lotto there's no guarantee that you'll get a top 2-3 pick even if you have one of the worst 2-3 records in the league. The other thing that is hampering the Bucks chances of landing a star player is that high school players are no longer eligible. It is less likely that a Kobe Bryant will slip to #13 or an Andrew Bynum slip to #10 or a Tracy McGrady slip to #9 because these guys now have to go to college or Europe where scouts will have a better idea of how they do against better competition. Also with being able to hold their rights now for several years coupled with having to wait a year after high school, those guys are less likely to hold out if a team they don't like drafts them because they won't want to wait three years before playing.
  4. If I'm reading the standings correctly Wisconsin is 7.5 games out. Don't know that there is much of a playoff push to be had.
  5. 1) Get to the World Series = ~$30M additional profit from extra home games. 2) Trade Hart and Gamel for a good young cheap SS. Have Katin and Gindl platoon in RF. Replace Hawkins and Saito with Kintzler and McClendon. That combined would free up $11-12M. That creates an additional $40M per year to spend on Fielder, Marcum, and Grienke.
  6. You can have some garlic fries with the Rev. at Gordon Biersch on the Embarcadero.
  7. Don't care what anyone says, Carlos Gomez is deserving of a roster spot for his defense alone. A backup roster spot, but a roster spot.
  8. Brock's slugging % the last 10 games is 1.083. His OBP is .500, making his OPS 1.583. Has anyone ever had a 10-game stretch like that before?
  9. Kjeldgaard's slugging % the last 10 games is .971, and his OPS is 1.421. And he's stolen three bases.
  10. As much as people want to peg Fiers as a reliever, he sure has no issues being a starter. The odd part is that this year he has been much more successful against lefties than righties. Whatever adjustments the roving hitting instructor had Kjeldgaard make sure are working wonders. Could we have that roving hitting instructor's next go-around with Brevard involve a lot of quality time with Kentrail Davis? Edit: just noticed that Kjeldgaard's splits vs. lefties in 44 ABs this year are a .490 OBP, .727 SLG, and a 1.217 OPS. That's ridiculous. The OPS vs. righties is an ok .812, but it comes on a .319 OBP and .218 BA.
  11. Conner’s selection makes him the fifth player in Ashbrook history to be chosen in the major league draft – joining Wes Helms (1994) That Wes Helms?
  12. From what little I've seen of Loe this season, it seems he is throwing a lot of almost side-arm sliders, and because of his height they are often up in the zone. Has he always done this? It seems that with his height he should be throwing more over the top to generate downward plane and induce ground balls. Those sidearm sliders up in the zone are getting pounded.
  13. If you want to explore a lesser-known, not-so-touristy area of town check out the Marina and Cow Hollow districts. Lots of hole-in-the-wall restaurants and bars. I recommend a local steakhouse that's been around forever - Izzy's - just off of Lombard and I believe Steiner? Good food, very reasonable prices, not pretentious at all, and lots of history. I think it's closer to chestnut. But then again if you're in your late 20's and like sushi I'd recommend Mas Saki - the sushi's good but it's more of a scene, good looking people, fun, and often have a DJ playing. It's on Lombard as well, I believe near Steiner. That whole area you can just wander around and find all kinds of places. It's a younger part of town so it's fun, and mostly locals.
  14. Win the World Series. How much extra revenue will be brought in from home games in the NLDS, NLCS, and World Series? Tickets, parking, concessions, souvies, etc., for 45,000 fans for 10 or so home playoff games - how much would that be? If the average fan spends $200/game for their ticket/parking/concessions/souvies, that's $9M per game, times 10 home games = $90M in additional revenue. Or lose the World Series. They get the revenue from the home playoff games, and maybe Prince takes a hometown discount because he feels he is *this* close to winning the World Series with the Brewers that he wants to stay.
  15. There was an interview with Kjeldgaard the other day and he said that the Brewers roving hitting instructor worked with him for a few days a week or two ago and Brock said his recent success was due to his work with the hitting instructor and the adjustments he had Brock make. I think it was in a Link Report the first or second day of his consecutive 2-HR games. 15 HRs before June 10th for a RH hitter in Brevard is very impressive. Brock is also picking up his walks as his OBP is increasing. Edit: here's the link: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110605&content_id=20101754&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb The name of the game is making adjustments - that's the only way you make it to the next level. Looks like Brock is doing that and now seeing the ball better.
  16. Slacker - Kjeldgaard has 6 5 in 4 games. (Edit - addition fail)
