  1. This is what I saw when I woke up at 9am this morning. Hard to get a clear picture (obviously I am not a professional photographer - couldn't tell that it focused on the raindrops on the window), but I circled an area in red - compare that area to the same area I circled below when I took the same picture at 11am and to see how much the water level in the harbor dropped in two hours. 9am: http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/fe025f69e28493f91e4cea44be04a25e8d10447.JPG Now compare that same area to the picture I took at 11am: http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/2611539c8b3716cc39abf9eff681477957ad03a.JPG At 9am you can't see the squared off area - it's underwater. That's how much the water level dropped in two hours. At 9am it was up and over the walkway between my building and the harbor.
  2. The barometric pressure dropped so quickly last night that the pressure inside my liquid soap dispenser was so much higher than the atmosphere that it pushed the soap out of the dispenser and into the sink. This is what I saw when I walked into the kitchen this morning: http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/a8e15f968e3d16c73ba558b1d7a37011d9aa2fc.JPG
  3. And it happened against the Cardinals so if anything it should be counted twice.
  4. Do yourself a favor and go with the HTC Evo with Sprint. No need to wait for the iPhone - the HTC Evo can do everything the iPhone can do and more with a bigger screen. Again, I think its great that you're particular phone and the location you live in has worked so well for you, but the iPhone/AT&T have had well documented problems at every iteration. One of my best friends has an iPhone through AT&T, and the sound quality is terrible (I can hardly understand him half the time) and it drops calls frequently, especially when he is in his car and switching between towers. Another one of my friends who lives in the San Francisco area was at a festival, and so many people were using the network he had to drop down to the 2G network just to place calls and send texts. I've owned quite a few phones and the iPhone gets the best reception out of any of them with an internal antenna. I have an internal antenna that I got for free from Sprint and it works fantastic.
  5. Tell that to the 1,000,000 people who are without power in NC, VA, and MD, and the woman who lost her 11 year old son when a tree fell on their apartment building. The storm hasn't even hit NYC yet. When those areas flooded earlier this year, it wasn't #7 on the news. You aren't here Al, so you don't know what it's really like.
  6. A Carnival cruise ship is departing right now, heading right into it... that's kind of surprising. While now they are saying winds of 50-60 mph tomorrow, I don't know that I would be comfortable in any kind of boat heading into that. The big question mark though is going to be the rain.
  7. Wanna bet?Bet over something you have influence over? No thanks. Exclude your vote and open it up to more than the three of you? Sure.
  8. The issue with NYC is that the island and whole area is a very low-lying area. It isn't so much the storm as the rain. There isn't much of an area for the rain to go. Tunnels and subways could flood. If winds get up over 60mph they will have to close the bridges. Winds coupled with sea swell could cause major waves that could easily go over onto the island. I'm right on the water's edge so I'll have a first-hand view of everything. Rain is starting already...
  9. I believe his exact words were, "Bullpen my (rear end)." Methinks that as of the next Power 50 he will no longer be ranked lower than Rivas, either of the K. Davis's, or a Scooter.
  10. Just returned from the grocery store and the liquor store so I am adequately stocked with food and beverage. Building codes require windows on high rises to withstand winds of up to 120mph; only supposed to get up to 75mph where I am. Windows face north, not east, so winds won't be coming at them directly, they will be coming at an angle. The complex, just like any complex I'd expect Eli Manning to live in*, has backup generators; they test them every week and they were working on Wednesday. I'm on the 7th floor, so if I have an issue with flooding the only thing I will need is an ark. *Fun fact - Eli Manning has the exact same unit number as I do in the other building. His windows face directly east though.
  11. On a slightly related note I bit on yesterday's Woot of the Viewsonig g-tablet for $240. I am starting to regret it because I didn't read the developer's forums thoroughly before purchasing, as from what I can tell the Honeycomb 3.+ platforms have issues with the camera/camera app and the camera is one of the reasons I purchased it. Does anyone know for sure if the camera or any camera apps work with the Honeycomb 3.+ platforms out there, and if not, what platforms do work (Cyanogenmod, Vegan-tab - but I HATE that name, Brilliant Corners, etc.) well overall and with the camera? I don't "game"; I planned on using the tab for wi-fi internet access when traveling (instead of bringing along the work laptop), and surfing/watching movies/TV while on flights. Thanks!
  12. For some people. Also depends on your definition of "life ruining". If your definition of "life ruining" only means living in the gutter on skid row begging for your next hit and does not include unambitious, no desire to have/keep a good job/career, living in your parent's basement, not saving for retirement, and generally underachieving, fine, but my definition does. Yes there are people who are very productive members of society who smoke marijuana regularly. There are also people who drink and use "hard drugs" who are very productive members of society as well. I think the issue that Jim and others may be getting at is that there is a perception - depending on what this "stimulant" really is - that this "drug" is more important to Rogers than rehabbing and becoming a successful pitcher. We don't know that; but being a repeat offender means you didn't learn your lesson, either because you are ignorant or because you don't care. It's the possibility that Rogers might not care that is concerning.
  13. I think I just figured it out... Lopez starts game 1 of the double-header against Pittsburgh on Monday. After game 1 they release Lopez and "call up" Peralta, who is conveniently hanging out in the clubhouse, to start game 2. After game 2 they send Peralta down and call up Green. Green takes Lopez' roster spot on the 40-man. Well, we can hope at least.
  14. I think Kevin Nash looked more bad-arsed with gray hair.
  15. LouisEly, soon to be reporting from section 128
  16. Do they plan on moving him full time to OF, or is he playing there because of a lack of bodies and a surplus of catchers? Obviously they need extra catchers in rookie ball with the extra work they give the pitchers on the side. IIRC, McMahan was 2nd string behind perhaps the best catcher in the NCAA and thus was a little under the radar. Unless he is a significant defensive liability, I'd like for them to keep him at C.
  17. He could start the season on the 60-day DL and then "rehab" until ready.
  18. For cryin' out loud, you don't walk a guy hitting .188
  19. Hop on Homer, I've been driving that bandwagon for a year and a half. Plenty of room! Disappointed the only runs he gave up were on a HR to the opposing team's pitcher, but until recently that's been nothing new for Brewers pitchers. Fits right in!
  20. The only thing that I can think of is that they want to give Green as many ABs as possible instead of get rusty on the MIL bench, so they wait until the Nashville season is done to call him up. So they release Lopez on 8/31 and call up Green, and wait until 9/1 to activate Weeks. That way both Green and Weeks are eligible for the post-season.
  21. Schafer has an average arm. I somewhat question this, as Schafer had 13 assists in his only full season in 2009 (107 games) and has 8 assists this year in 78 games. Maybe not great, but to have that many assists suggests at least above average. I'd be curious to see where that ranks in terms of minor league CFs. I think Schafer is the reason the Brewers were willing to move Komatsu for Hairston. It's exactly the reason they were willing to move Komatsu. DM said it in an interview after the trade that Komatsu was behind Schafer (and Gindl) on the organizational OF depth chart. When the Brewers brought Schafer with them to their last two spring training games in LA in 2009, and he was the first OF reserve off the bench in those two games, I knew that the Brewers were really high on him. They didn't send him to minor league camp until after the last spring training game.
  22. Man, look at that 2005 draft: Braun, Gamel, Brantley, Jemile Weeks, Bailey, Braddock, Taylor Green, Arrietta, plus they traded Inman, Hammond, and Garrison for major league players, and Brendan Katin and Brock Kjeldgaard were a part of that draft class too. That has to be one of the most productive drafts ever in terms of number of major league players produced/acquired.
  23. 4 hits and 7 Ks in 6 IP and 7:3 GO/FO is a very good start for Arnett. 3 BB in 6 IP is not. While Marzec is on the older side for A-ball, so far this year in 56 innings he has given up 36 hits, walked 31 (cause for some concern), and struck out 60 with a 1.51 GO/AO and 1.60 ERA. Similar numbers in rookie ball last year. I'm hoping the walks are being "effectively wild", but he's striking people out and getting ground balls which bodes well for future performance. Free Jacob Barnes.
