  1. Look forward to Lucas "With the Lid Off" Luetge's Oh, no you didn't. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. Heard #1 again on Saturday night - about 6:24PM Pacific. I think they will replay the Vonyc sessions at 9PM Pacific tonight (11PM Central), so this should be on at either 11:24 or 12:24 PM Central tonight (Monday). Pretty sure it was Vonyc sessions that was Saturday night; I think it started at 5PM Pacific. If anyone can listen to Sirius 38 at those times tonight and help ID it I would appreciate it.
  3. Chowyo rocks. I'm still amazed at the collective resources and knowledge of this board.
  4. Not to mention they asked him, I'm sure he asked to stay, and everything was fine. That right there is the difference between a good manager and a poor manager. A poor manager asks his players what they want to do; a good manager tells his players what they should do and think. That's called leadership.
  5. No its not. 110 pitches for a guy of his age, caliber and endurance is perfectly fine. It's not like he's getting to 130. The irony.
  6. You can't buy an iTunes UK gift card unless you have a billing address/method of payment based in the UK. There is a 30# gift card on eBay, but I don't know whether or not you have to have a UK billing address to register a gift card.
  7. I'm looking for a particular track ("Anthem" by Filo and Peri, the version used in the video) and it is only available on iTunes UK. (That particular mix is not on iTunes here.) I've searched LimeWire, eBay, Juno, and all other sources but it is only on iTunes UK. I've found the video on YouTube, but the sound quality is poor; I'm looking for CD-quality sound. The problem is that iTunes won't let you buy stuff on iTunes based out of other countries - when I try to go to iTunes UK they say I have to have a payment method that is based in that country. And you can't bill to Paypal via iTunes UK. Does anyone know a way to get around this?
  8. Capuano could go 60-man, and Richie Gardner could be DFA'd/outrighted. That could clear up two spots. So it's two spots for two of Gibbons, Stocker, and Bateman (I'll add a 4th dark horse - Narron). Methinks there was a handshake agreement involved with Stocker going from AAA to A+, so he is the horse I'm betting on to get any 40-man spots that open up. Cost is not an issue. The incremental cost of having someone for a month compared to the sunk costs already incurred is minimal. $200K for a month compared to already having spent $100M? That's couch change. The embarrassment and ramifications of being caught short-handed in an extra-inning game dwarfs what the cost would be to have an extra player in the dugout. Right now I'd say everyone on the 40 except Capuano, Escobar, Gardner, and Palmisano for sure, probably not Pena (need to send a message), and maybe Gallardo depending on how his rehab is going and if they want to risk it (could have him in the bullpen but not running bases). Add two of Gibbons/Stocker/Bateman, plus DiFelice, Dillard, Dillon, TGJ, Irribarren (because he is LH), Nelson, Rottino, and Stetter.
  9. If Green hit RH then I doubt that many people would think that he's really that special. The fact that he hits LH and the upper organizational need for LH to balance out all of the righties is the big reason people want to keep him. That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if the Brewers long-term vision of their infield is Hardy at 3B, Escobar at SS, Green at 2B, and Fielder/Gamel at 1B. A LH hitting 2B with pop and a good OBP is a nice bonus to have; Green will probably never be Utley, but I think that Fontenot is a very underrated component of the Cubs offense. Lucroy is the one I would least like to lose. Has a similar OPS as Green at Brevard, above-average defensively, and in the event that all of their catchers develop, catchers command a lot of value in trade. Fortunately Cleveland took another high-A ball top catching prospect in another trade so maybe they won't want Lucroy as much. Look at it this way - would you trade Lucroy straight up for Green, Brantley, or Cain? Brantley has some question marks (arm strength, power), but like Green being a LH hitter that carries extra value. I think eventually once Braun and Hart get more OF experience (Hart is relatively new to the OF also), one of them can/will be moved to CF allowing Brantley to play LF. Braun has speed and arm strength and once he gets experience playing OF he could be a good CF. I think people generally prefer that Cain is the PTBNL because he plays OF and hits RH, the two biggest areas of surplus in the system. Nothing against Cain, he's a great prospect, but it's just just that the best way to improve a team overall is to trade from surplus. I look on the bright side - after the PTBNL is named, they will still have three of Green, Lucroy, Brantley, and Cain. The cupboard will hardly be bare.
  10. When I saw him sitting on the bench last night I really noticed it. I'm not going on any tofu/soy diet any time soon. I wonder how many of you guys (if any) could outrun Prince in 90 feet? I'll turn 35 on Monday, and I guarantee I could smoke him around the bases (even if he didn't spin out at the plate from swinging so hard). Like Hardy Har Har, some of us are real athletes in our personal lives.
  11. Wow, based on a whole 5 ABs. And completely ignoring the catch in San Diego that very few would have been able to make. I do have to admit though, I could have told you that the pitcher was going to throw a fastball for strike three last night. Nix doesn't guess correctly much. BTW - Gamel post-All Star break: .532 OPS. He ain't exactly earning a callup right now. And Brantley is fresh of the DL, and Escobar doesn't play OF (and neither does Gamel).
  12. Bryson made the list because of his stuff, not his stats. Kind of like Robert Hinton - and his progression has been marvelous. I got ridiculed for saying that Patrick Ryan was a better prospect than Hinton... well, one of those two got demoted to A-ball, and it wasn't Ryan. When has any of those relievers made an impact in the majors? Never. When has any reliever been given a chance? After Steve Bray's season last year, I don't know what it takes to get called up as a reliever any more. Hey, I'm not saying that Frerichs should be #20 on the list; but if IP:H, K:BB, and K:IP ratios are important, those ratios warrant consideration for slots 45-50.
  13. Due for some Power 50 love - Corey Frerichs. 64 IP, 47 H, 81 K, 2.39 ERA. Walks a little high at 37, but those first three numbers in combination are very good. How you get 8 losses from those numbers I don't know. For comparison, Rob Bryson had 66 IP, 49 H, 26 BB, 82 K, 3.93 ERA.
  14. Steffan Wilson now tied with Gamel for most RBIs in the entire organization with 91. Clutch hitter right there. If Taylor Green is the PTBNL, then Wilson might very well jump to AA and be the starting 3B, but if he isn't the PTBNL then Wilson could very well be the 1B in Huntsville next year, or Green could slide over to 2B next year with Wilson the 3B in Huntsville (prolly still have Green split time at 3B with Wilson splitting time between 3B and 1B).
  15. If there has ever been a worse combination of music and lyrics in the history of humans creating rhythmic sound, I'd like to know what it is. Gotta give credit to those who mentioned "My Humps", "Milkshake", and "Hollaback girl" - those are in the top five. But no one mentioned that goddamned Ghosttown DJs track from about 10 years ago. THAT was the worst one of all time. A couple of years ago I heard KNGY in San Francisco play it, and I called them and told them, "I don't know what shallow grave you unearthed that Ghosttown DJs track from, but please respect the dead and return it and bury it deep enough so that it never sees the light of day again." Rounding out the top five - "Spider webs" (?). "It's all your fault I screen my phone calls." Was that Stefani on lyrics on that too? Geez, two in the top five for her. (PS - while the pop radio edit of "Umbrella" by Rhianna was not good, listen to the Seamus Haji remix - that will change your opinion of it.)
  16. We're not reading into things - we're Brewers fans. We have come to expect the worst. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. LH power bat goes down, call up next best LH power bat. With another OF down, Nix gets the nod due to OF defense and flexibility over Nelson. It's pretty simple. You have two power bats hurting right now (Braun, Branyan) and you can't afford to be playing with 23 players. DL the part-timer (Branyan) and get a healthy body up to be at least at 24. People think this reflects on Gwynn, but take a look at Nix's stats in AAA this year. He's quietly having a very good year. So what if he's 27; many players haven't broken into the majors until 27 (Jaha comes to mind). So what if he doesn't project to be an All-Star. Look at his stats in AAA and age aside, tell me one good reason he doesn't deserve to be called up right now. It is more about the good year that Nix is having and his power than it is about Gwynn. (Also, don't expect Branyan to be activated prior to Sept. 1st unless someone else goes on the DL. I doubt they will activate Branyan and expose Nix to waivers on Aug 28th with only four days to go before the rosters expand. Nix is up for good this year.)
  18. Bramhall with a nice outing, with 4 hits, 0 walks, 8 Ks and an unearned run in 6IP. Quietly putting up a very solid year. Heaven forbid if anyone else goes down in Milwaukee and they have to call up Nelson, then that Nashville team could be perhaps the worst offensive team in the history of AAA.
  19. I'm driving down from LA tomorrow for the game to watch CC. If anyone else may be driving down from LA or the OC and wants to carpool let me know. I was planning on leaving early afternoon to beat the traffic, but if I can get a carpool I may be able to leave later.
  20. Steffan Wilson with 12 hits in his last four games. Don't look now but Farris is up to .291 after his start. And Rob Wooten conspicuously has yet to do a certain thing this year.
  21. We have had too many arms in the bullpen certainly since Sabathia came on board We have been fortunate to have had the #1 and #2 pitchers in the NL in complete games in Sabathia and Sheets. We have also been fortunate to have few if any early blowouts from Suppan or Bush the last month or so. It never hurts to have a few extra arms or bats; you never want to get caught short in an extra inning game and/or have your bullpen taxed the next game. Like someone else said, just the experience and soaking it all in which might calm the nerves is valuable too.
  22. Its difficult for small players to cover the plate, and if they try to compensate for that, it can open holes in there swing. I've seen you compare Green to Cirillo, but I think thats unfair because Green just doesn't have Cirillo's natural ability. The MLB player that I think Green compares to is the Cubs Mike Fontenot. Fontenot has similar size and athletism, with the same patient approach, and has some pop. Even before I finished the first sentence I was thinking about Fontenot. I'll take a career .811 OPS and .360 OBP from a 2B; this year he's having a season that would (and should) make Rickie Weeks blush. (Heck, he's having a career that should make Weeks blush.) But considering he's playing in the offensively suppressed Space Coast Stadium and FSL league, Green's 13 HRs so far are very impressive. I've said this before, but it would not surprise me if the Brewers long-term vision of their infield is Hardy at 3B, Escobar at SS, Green at 2B, and Fielder at 1B (with Braun, Hart, and Gamel in the OF; how's that for a balanced lineup - 4 RH and 3LH.) And hitting lefty makes Green even more valuable.
  23. I am also a fan of Dykstra and think he has a bright future, but I don't get excited about anyone in rookie ball. I place a lot of value on AA or above and don't think that anyone in rookie ball other than first round picks should be above #30. I think #39 is about right; in fact, I think there are way too many draft picks from this year on the P50. That being said, if he starts hitting like this in A or A+ then I'll start getting excited. Speaking of rookie ball, Peralta with another nice outing and Kjeldgaard with another bomb. I hope Brock can develop some plate discipline, because he sure has enough power to make it. Potential LOOGYs Bramhall and Baron gave up a combined 10 hits in 4 innings. Ouch. I've said it before, but Nix is having a very nice season under the radar in Nashville, and IMO is more deserving of a September callup than Gibbons.
  24. I would put rotten potatoes, watermelon, and onions on the top of my list having worked in produce. They would come in a box all mushed and rotten, awful. You forgot rotten broccoli. I'd have to put a pig farm somewhere in the list.
