  1. Because he's a cheating piece of scum. I would hope MU holds itself to a higher standard than wins alone (although based on some of the rumors about Buzz I'm not so sure). What rumors have you heard about Buzz, and where have you heard them? Read up on the DJ Newbill situation. Pretty much yanked a scholarship from the kid so that Jamil Wilson could transfer. Newbill had signed a letter of intent to Marquette and when Wilson came available Marquette used some pretty shady tactics to drop him from his scholarship. I have yet to meet a Marquette fan who could justify what happened there. It does not make Buzz a terrible person but it is pretty shady.
  2. What a great program that have developed at UW-GB. Seems like they are ranked every year but dont always get the best seeds. Nice to see them in the Sweet 16!
  3. I cant believe how easily people would overlook what Pearl did. He got caught cheating and then lied about. To act like it is okay because you assume everyone is cheating makes no sense. A - You have absolutely zero proof every coach cheats. A poster asked if someone would be surprised if Bo Ryan was caught cheating and I would honestly say yes. Not because I am a homer, but because there has not been the slightest hint of cheating on his resume. He is not the only coach like this either. Some coaches run clean programs and to consider them guilty because others cheat makes little sense. It is like assuming everyone used steroids in baseball a few years back. Some did, some did not. B - He cheated, got caught, and then lied about it. Is that really the guy you want as the face of your program. Maybe in a few years sure, but next year? I feel like there is a win at all costs motto for some people and I just dont understand it. I am all for letting him prove he is ready to run a clean program but I would want some time to settle for sure.
  4. I dont think it is quite that impressive when they had to beat each other to get there. The Big East was 7-9 against teams outside their conference. I am not taking anything away from Marquette but the Big East's 9 and 11th place teams made the Sweet 16 beating Big East teams so I dont think it was a great positive for the conference. Here are the Big East's wins outside their own conference - Clemson (12 seed), a 16 seed, a 15 seed, 2 14 seeds, Xavier (6), and Missouri (11) and two Big East teams. Not super impressive. Right now their marquee win is Xavier. Now I dont think the Big Ten did great either. They only have two teams in the Sweet 16 as well and according to seeds they "should" have 3. This has actually been the tournament of the mid-majors and so far the ACC has done pretty well too. It has been an entertaining tourney and the state of Wisconsin is doing well, just not the conferences the team reside in.
  5. Not a good opening weekend for the Power Conferences. Mid-majors have 5 of the 16 teams in the next round - by my count at least
  6. Nice hard fought win by Marquette. Lots of turnovers in the game, but it was Marquette's ability to crash the boards that won them the game
  7. The Big East has a chance to redeem their start with a couple team making final four runs, but when you come into the tournament with 9 teams seeded 6 or better and 5 teams 4 or higher, getting at most 3 into the Sweet 16 is not good at all. They have under-achieved by two wins (at least) according to seeds in the first two rounds. Without winning any they "shouldnt" in the first round they should have gone 9-2. Instead they go 7-4. Not terrible but not good. The next round they will at best be 3-4 when they "should have" put 5 in according to their seeds. That is under-achieving. Now a nice run by UConn, Notre Dame, and the Cuse/Marquette winner than they redeem themselves
  8. Badgers are in good shape but Butler is going to be one tough out. The Big East has been disappointing. At most 3 teams in the Sweet 16 for a conference that had 11 teams at 9 seeded 6 or higher. Will be interesting to see how tomorrow plays out. Notre Dame is a team I would not be surprised to see get upset, but they are better than Florida State. Cuse and Marquette will be a very good game
  9. It was amazing. I cant believe they won with Taylor going 2 for 16 and Pullen making everything in sight. Timmy J, Bruiser, and Gasser were huge in this game. Butler will be a fun match-up
  10. I think Bo needs a run to the Final Four to solidify his resume as a top coach. He has the Elite 8 run and 2 Sweet 16 runs, but he needs a Final Four run in most peoples mind. I think he is a great coach but just like Aaron Rodgers needed a Super Bowl, Bo Ryan needs at least another Elite 8 but probably a Final Four.
  11. Marquette with a solid first half. Xavier on the other hand played one of the sloppiest halves I have ever watched. Forcing shots, throwing the ball all over the place. Marquette's defense has a lot to do with that but Xavier looks over-matched. Will be interesting to see how the second half plays out
  12. I meant the last couple sessions of games. Outside of the MSU vs UCLA game the rest were pretty wide margins and for all but 5 minutes the MSU and UCLA game was pretty bad. The early part of the day was amazing
  13. Big East not having a great start so far considering they were higher seeds in all games but one. They still have Cuse, Marq, and Georgetown to play. They are currently 5-3. Now if those 3 win it turns into a pretty good first round, but when you are higher seeds in 9 out of 11 games you figure to have a good first two days and that has not been the case. Not saying the conference is overrated, just interesting. After a not so exciting last night and first batch today it has picked up today. Nova goes down late, Memphis and Zona locked up in a good one. FSU vs Texas AM should be close as well. What is crazy about the Michigan/Tennessee game is that Michigan won by 30 without making a free throw
  14. The Badgers were favored and were probably picked by 80% of those who made out a bracket. Belmont was a trendy pick for an upset, though I'm shocked Princeton wasn't with their history of upsets.A lot of the analysts picked the Badgers to lose. Here are the picks the jsonline compiled. 5 out of the 7 of the people in that list picked the Badgers to lose. Seth Davis and Doug Gottlieb (at least first he did he changed this morning I heard) had the Badgers losing as well. The Badgers may have been favored by Vegas but many if not most analysts had them losing. ESPN's bracket Predictor gave the Badgers a 52% chance of winning.
  15. They looked really good after the first 5 minutes. I was expecting a much closer game
  16. I have not noticed cutters being a big problem tonight, but their post defense has been terrible. They are shooting really well though. After a little slower start they became really efficient on offense. Hope Leuer shows up this half
  17. Marquette got a very good draw in Xavier. They have a few wins against lower seeded tournament teams but nothing against big name teams. The lost to Cincy, Old Dominion and Florida in their big games this year. They beat Temple, Georgia and Butler for their bigger wins. Should be a good match-up. I know they beat Cuse earlier this year but I dont like that match-up as much for them. Wisconsin got a tough draw in Belmont. They are deep team who has played big name teams close. They press a lot, but they do foul a lot doing it. They hit a high percentage of 3's which is Wisconsin Achilles heal lately on defense. I like the second round match-up with K-State or Utah State. Either team could make the Sweet 16 and not surprise me. Either team could lose in the first round and not surprise me
  18. They have been doing this for a while now. Buzz can recruit scorers with the best of them. Although dont over-hype Mayo because of his brother, he is nowhere near that level, if his recruitment says anything. They need to be able to recruit quality bigs. If they start doing that then the future really does look good. Buzz is great at recruiting athletes for sure
  19. I am going to go with Tyler Thornburg. Here's to hoping his secondary stuff can match his fastball Also want to give a nod to Jimmy Nelson. The Power 50 says it best when it says the Suppan comparison is scaring people away, but Soup never touched mid 90's with his fastball
  20. I just dont know who jumps them. Ohio State, Duke, and Kansas are in but I have a hard time seeing ND jumping Pitt. UNC and Texas shouldn't either.
  21. Yeah, but Marquette had the ball up 3 with 20 to play and threw it away on an in bounds. If WVU is patient they either have a chance to tie or get within one and put Marquette on the line with plenty of time to play. I am not belittling what Marquette did to comeback, but that play reeked of what happened to them all year. This time the other team did not make a shot though. Marquette did a good job playing defense on the play but he in bounds pass was terrible.
  22. It was a nice win for them. I think they are pretty even with WVU, Cincy, Villanova and even Georgetown without Wright, but they just could not close out games. They almost threw it away last night - literally - but WVU forced a shot after the steal they got. Louisville, Cuse, UConn, and St Johns (who could be in that prior group) are the next level. Then Pitt and ND are the tops of the division. You are right that Marquette wants to avoid the 8-9 sead if they can. I dont think they could face Pitt in the second round though could they? I thought conference teams could not meet in round 2 or is that impossible this year with all the Big East teams. BYU or SDSU would be great second round match ups for Marquette.
  23. Missouri State now joins the bubble teams. Will be interesting to see if they sneak in with the bubble being weak. Their best non-conference win was against Saint Louis, and the Missouri Valley Conference was a pretty big joke this year. If literally every other bubble team loses in the first round of their conference tourney, I still don't see how Missouri State should make it.Did not realize their overall profile was so bad but i have seen numerous people having them on the bubble and one had them as their first 4 out. Which at this point means you wont make it because so much can happen. Most people I have read say if Gonzaga wins both them and St. Mary's are in. If VCU beats Old Dominion they are both in with George Mason. And if UW-Milwaukee beats Butler both are in. Now I know you can argue all those but that would be mid-majors getting 4 extra bids at least. Could be an interesting Sunday depending on how the conference tournaments go
  24. That is a nice way to put it. Glad it only shows up as one loss because it felt like worse
  25. Simply untrue. Wisconsin beat Marquette on the road and lost to the number 2 Big East team in a very tight game on a neutral site. I am pretty sure they could easily hold their own in the Big East. Purdue is even better than Wisconsin. Honestly the top 2 teams in the Big East are not great teams - Pitt and Notre Dame are very good but not great. The next bunch Louisville, Georgetown, UConn, Syracuse, and St. johns are good but there is no reason to think they are better than Wisconsin and Purdue. Cincy, West Virginia, and Villanova have not proven to at the same level over the season.
