  1. I knew you werent a Braun guy. I have read your posts about him in a lot of threads. I was just wondering why you dont seem to be a fan of his. Is it personality? Because his bat is great and getting better. It cant be fielding because Weeks and Hart are not great defenders. Braun loves Milwaukee. I am not saying you have to love him, just wondering what your deal with him is? I think if you take off your overall dislike for him I think you have to admit if you factor in injuries and ballpark he and Tulo are very comparable
  2. The gap is definitely NOT huge. Braun is a better hitter while playing in a park that is not a hitter's paradise. Last year was the first year Tulo put up better offensive numbers than Braun. Lets also put in the durability factor as Braun has played 92 more games than Tulo since he started playing in the majors. That is an average of 30 games a season that the Brewers have Braun and the Rockies dont have Tulo. That alone would seem to even out any defensive differences. Add the park difference and I dont think you can say the gap is huge. I do want to ask a question and I am not trying act like you hate Braun, but why do you always seem to be negative about the guy in every thread pertaining to him? You seem to not be very high on the guy and I am not sure why.
  3. I know Kotsay isn't great but since the Chicago series he is hitting .300 with 6 walks and 3 K's. His power is non-existent but he is not the blackhole in the lineup people are acting like he is. I like giving Boggs more starts but I get tired of people acting like Kotsay cant do anything offensively. His OPS is better so far this year Chris Young, Prado, Carlos Lee, Ludwick, Werth, Marlon Byrd, etc. So yes he is not very good but he is not the worst RF ever. He is better than Almonte right now
  4. I definitely think this will help us have a chance to land Greinke long-term. He wanted a team committed to winning, and this sends that message. Now whether we have enough money is another question
  5. It would be interesting to see how far out of the zone the pitches are. He doesn't seem to be flailing at pitches that are way outside or way high as he has in the past. I wouldn't be at all surprised if balls outside the zone that he offers at are just barely off the plate or close enough to swing at when protecting with 2 strikes. That is my question too. There is a difference between swinging at pitches out of the zone like Jenkins did toward the end of his career and protecting the plate. I want a guy who protects the plate and with his power Braun can put some of those just off the plate pitches in play. I dont want him watching a pitch that an ump could call strike three
  6. I started this thread and I knew some people would be quick to dismiss it as small sample size. Carnie brought a valid point with past starts by Braun but I feel like his approach just looks different. Maybe that will change but right now he has walked 15 times which is more than he had any month in his career. So in 18 games he has shown better pitch selection than any point in his career so maybe a change is occurring. His power numbers have been great along with his patience.
  7. That is a good call. I still have no clue as to who could bat there on this team outside of Morgan when healthy. I am sure that talk is designated for the Lineup thread. I dont blame RR for Kotsay. That seems like a Melvin call. Reed barely made a blip on the roster.
  8. I dont know if I have seen a message board that posts positive threads about a coach or manager before. Ron has made some puzzling decisions, but I think he done some good things as well. He is a little handcuffed by a bullpen without Parra, Hawkins, Saito, and obviously missing Greinke hurts. He is a little handcuffed with Hart not being there and Morgan being dinged up (and Melvins curious Kotsay signing). Not sure what all he should be doing that has some on this board up in arms, but I like that he does not over-tinker with the lineup. I would love to not have to play Yuni and Kotsay everyday but with injuries and lack of depth that is where we are. Unless you think Almonte is the answer.
  9. Yuni is bad on defense but right now who do we have that is good? Gomez and that is about it. Fielder is a butcher, Weeks has good moments than very bad ones, Casey is what he is at 3rd, Braun tries to do too much and makes bad decisions, etc. This is a bad defensive team and we knew it coming in. I think the complaints on Yuni go over the top a little, but he is the one guy we can replace (and Kotsay but that will happen soon enough). Weeks, Fielder, Casey, and Braun can all hit so they are not coming out. Yuni's bat is not good so if we have a no hit SS it would be nice if he played defense well. I remember thinking the same thing about Escobar last year. The guy could not hit but his defense is what disappointed me.
  10. I hope Carlos has turned the corner. He would look very good for a little while and then he would look like he could not get anyone out. In those same 9 innings he has walked 6 guys. Averaging over a walk every two innings will come back to haunt him. His WHIP the last 4 years was 1.31 or higher so once hits start to drop those numbers will slide to the norm. On the other side Green has not been good at all. But I dont know if you can say he replaced Carlos since Green wont be on the roster when Hawkins and Saito are back, will he?
  11. I am really impressed with Braun's improved patience at the plate so far. I know it is a small sample but he currently has more walks (10) than strike outs (9). He has improved this each year but even last year it was almost two to one. Considering he is batting in front of Fielder and pitchers would not seem to want to put him on at all, that is impressive.
  12. We will really only have two guys hitting well right now. Weeks is doing pretty good. Hart will help a lot. Lucroy should help as well. Morgan in for Gomez will too. Those guys along with ineptitude of the guys they are replacing (Kotsay, Nieves much more than Kotteras who is solid, and Gomez) will be a nice boost. Now if we could just have a SS on the DL that lineup could be really solid. 6-5 with no Greinke, Hart, or Lucroy while playing Cincy, Atlanta, Chicago and one Pitt game is pretty good.
  13. Yeah that double he roped really sucked.I dont think Bent is good but I do think the fact that he is already the team punching bag (even in games we are up by 6) is getting really old.
  14. I know Prince is going to cool down some, but with Braun, Fielder, Weeks and others I think this offense will be more than capable of scoring enough runs with a healthy Greinke, Yo, Marcum, Narveson and Wolf. I am really excited about this team
  15. The age of their staff has to be concerning as well since it was the young guys who got hurt. Zambrano and Dempster are not spring chickens so an injury to either one would not be a surprise. Garza was bad all spring and has been bad at the start of the season so who knows what is going on there. It will be interesting to see how their season plays out.
  16. You may not be able to empty your bench completely but you can easily signal you are throwing in the towel. If the Cubs or the trailing team pulls 4 starters than you know they are giving up which would tell you not to steal. Until they give that sign you have ZERO reason to quit playing hard.
  17. Interesting. As I reread that I can see where you are coming from. I still question what his "We will see how it plays out" comment means but I can see where you are coming from.
  18. Maybe complain is too harsh but the fact that he thinks a 5 run lead is too big to steal is ridiculous. Remember that Texas game a few years back, it would have been nice to have another run there. Quade should have simply said, well my catcher should throw him out then.
  19. Quade did say "we will see how it turns out" seeming to say their may be retaliation for Gomez stealing. I hope there is. I hope the next time we play them they hit Gomez on purpose and then he steals second and third
  20. Ran across "Unwritten rules apparently open to interpretation" today and I could not believe it. The Cubs are complaining about a stolen base in Saturday's game. Up 5-0 in the 8th Gomez stole two bases. Why on earth is this an unwritten rule in baseball? 5 runs is nowhere near insurmountable considering 3 teams have come back from 9 down in the 9th. EDIT: Fixed link --1992
  21. Completely agree. Not sure why you cannot steal when down 10. What is the limit on how much you can be down by? That's like saying down throw the ball deep when you are down 35 in football. It happens all the time. Considering teams have comeback from down 8 in the 9th 3 times in MLB history I think stealing when down 10 is okay
  22. Nice to see Wooten back in the box score. 1 IP 0 H 0 BB 3K. That is a nice inning!
  23. I love it. I am not sure why people feel like it has to be a baseball guy. The fans are going to love this and we know Braun is close with Rodgers so I think the Brewers players are going to enjoy it too
  24. Here is CNNSI's predictions. 4 of 12 or so picked the Brewers. Braun had two MVP votes and Yo had a Cy Young vote
