  1. http://www.wispolitics.com/1006/090219WAJrelease.pdf This caught my eye this morning, and I have to admit i'm not sure where I stand on the issue. I already carry the higher liability limits for liability insurance and under/uninsured, so this won't affect me either way. Having worked for the insurance industry straight out of college, i understand the damage that underinsured/uninsured drivers do to everybody's rates. I also have first hand knowledge of what a $50,000-$60,000 judgement in property damage can do to a young person without insurnace. One would think that Wisconsin should join the dozens of states that already require car insurance in order to be eligible for a driver's license/car registration. However, that doesn't really fix the problem as the people that don't have insurance now, would simply drive without a license & registation as well, creating more headaches for the police. It comes down to personal choice and personal responsibility, but there are many people that simply can't afford insurance. Anyone here been in an accident with an uninsured/underinsured driver?
  2. The problem is, Hall is hurt to start the season, so we're really starting with Lamb/McGehee/Counsell. yikes
  3. I concur that Utley is worth it. He is a once in a decade player at his position however...
  4. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3923604 Great low risk move for my Twins. I'm stunned he didn't get more, but i think that the market has really impacted a signing yet again. Given our 3B situation, i sure would have liked to see the Brewers do something at 3B... but maybe Gamel will be up by June anyways
  5. What about Weeks Lamb Hardy Braun Fielder Hart Cameron Kendall It would seem that its in our best interest to give Hardy (and Braun) protection.
  6. Would this compare to us giving Weeks 4/40 in 2 years? Weeks has shown great flashes in OBP and as a leadoff hitter... I guess my problem is that i can't think of any 2B that i would pay $10/m year I'd prefer to save my $$ for elite 3B, SS, P, C, and CF (or def Braun in his case)
  7. Per the article, the deal is $10 in 2010, $10 in 2011, $10 in 2012, $10 in 2013. I still think given this market that this is way overpaying.
  8. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3921371 $10 million a year for age 33,34,35,36 at 2nd base (he was born in 1977 and the deal runs through 2013). What are the Os thinking? He went from very marketable to a white elephant overnight
  9. Anyone in a good softball league (especially on the East Side in Milwaukee??) We played in a Tosa League (through the school district for two seasons), but are looking for something closer to the east side. Either Co-ed, or just men's, though we're looking for a Friday night league. THANKS
  10. If i/m Melvin, i find out what Texas is offering, and offer $2m more... get it done Doug. Add Sheets, and we repeat as Wild Card Favorites

  13. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3880218 Interesting offer. I wonder if we could do something with Ben Sheets. Majorly overpay for one year, but gives us another golden opportunity to go for it. A one year, big offer, is good for both sides. The Dodgers limit their risk to one year, and Manny cashes in big time while being able to wait out the poor economic market.

  16. Hey All- Anyone know when single game tickets go on sale? I'm coming from a significant distance away and want to get good seats for the Scrubs, ChiSox, and Twins series. Thanks!
  17. well..... if he kept it concealed for three years............ i just am sick of these "role models" not taking responsibility for their actions.
  18. http://www.baseballthinkf...ke_3_year_offer_for_lowe/ I would offer 3/36 in a heartbeat. cmon Doug, are we going to let every decent player that could help our team at a reasonable price slip away?
  19. Apparently the incident happened in 2006, but thanks to a blotched legal settlement, the incident of Brian Giles pulling the hair of his wife and slapping her in a public bar has re-emerged. The incident, caught on video tape makes me awful glad we didn't acquire this scumbag last season. http://www.sportingnews.c...rn/viewtopic.php?t=501214 Is Bug Selig ever going to take a stand against players who commit violence against women? I don't remember the Myers incident, but something really needs to be done. The NFL has taken the lead on establishing "zero tolerance" behavior and MLB/NBA need to follow suit. Good Riddance Giles. IF you are somehow not suspended, i look forwarded to booing you heavily next season.
  20. I can guarantee that baseball revenue goes down in 2009. Corporate sponsorship will be WAY down, and the recession is going to majorly impact the entertainment industry. I agree that player compensation should keep up with revenue streams, but i think Corporate MLB Sponsorships are about to/have burst like the dot.com bubble. Without major corporate sponsorships, MLB will go bankrupt. Its the big corporate deals for suites, TV advertising, marketing deals that provide a huge % of revenue to MLB, and the average fan simply can't afford many current ticket prices let alone increases. I love the Brewers and Twins, but aside from a HUGE game, its hard to stomach/afford paying more than $25/ticket. I'd much rather tailgate in the parking lot all game long.
  21. #1- Free Agents- Effective with 2010, a new rule for free agents. The maximum contract ($$$/per year) that a team can offer to a non-hometown player is the average of the top five paid players at that position in MLB. For instance, if the top 5 pitchers in baseball (salary wise) averaged $15 million, then the max offer the yankees could offer Sabathia, would be $15m/year. Only the hometown team has the right to exceed that amount giving a clear advantage to the hometown team (similar to the NBA system). Teams "overpaying" to keep their own players would gradually increase the top salaries, though 95% of players in MLB would not be impacted by this. #2- Tagging a "franchise player". Each offseason, a team could tag a player as their "franchise player" If a team (such as the Yankees) signed a franchise player, they would need to pay a fee of $20 million to the hometown team in exchange for signing that player. To tag a player, the hometown team must offer a contract of atleast three years at the rate of the top-5 paid players at their position. #3- To be eligible to use a franchise tag or receive revenue sharing, a team must have a payroll of atleast 60% of the league average.
  22. Angels (per ESPN) have pulled out of the Tex Sweepstakes. This would seem like an opportune time to trade Fielder to the Angels.
  23. Looking it his stats, i'll pass. Born in 74. So he'll be 35, 36, and 37 in the three years of this deal (if its a three year deal). His ERA (4.9 and 4.1) = 4.5 avg as a starter = league average. Yawn. If we could get him for $2-3 million, fine. He is NOT worth 3/27. Not when we could get Lowe (who is essentially the same age and a proven #2) for 3/36 (according to some here). This signing screams of a panic move and majorly overpaying for mediocrity.
