  1. EDIT: I'm rephrasing If Boston completes this comeback, they will have come back from 3-0 and 3-1 within 4 years to reach back to back World Series. Is this pure luck, good managing, or great composure by veteran teams? With the early lead tonight, I now think Boston will win the series. I think that Cleveland needed to slam the door shut in Cleveland to advance. Boston is just too good at Fenway and seems to have regained their stride. (Assuming Boston wins tonight), who are the pitching probables for Game 7?
  2. Yeah, i'd say 90% of that article is garbage. The one point where I always get suckered in though is the topic of publicly funded professional stadiums. In the yesterday, when baseball was more about sport than a business, I guess it probably would have been alright to stomach the cost (especially since the local county/city owned the parks), but in an era where baseball players make 100x what the average worker makes, i think its absurd that the taxpayer pays for stadiums. You'd think with that huge TV deal that the league could invest a sizable chunk in their own stadiums. That 0.10% tax equals about $90 a year to me, and thats enough for 5-6 more ball games http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif End rant
  3. Family Insurance Plan (through our school district) is approx $19,000/year. This is up from about $5,000/year in 2000. Whats wrong with this picture.
  4. Hilarious Casey! I had to think about it.... i was thinking about Jim Abbot (former Brewer/Calif Angel) but then wondered what connection he had to Hardy, Cappy, Soup, & Hall, but then i remembered the Young and the Playoffless appearance
  5. My thought was (also) that this makes the Rockies, essentially, our brothers.... i'd say an ugly, step-child brother... but since we're the ones who missed the playoffs, and have the boob of a manager, that makes us the "younger brother"
  6. I can't imagine that the feds will allow this to go through. I mean, i guess the two combined are still half the market share as bud, but weren't antitrust laws put in place for exacty the purpose of preventing #3 and #2 or #2 and #1 from merging? Or will they look the other way as long as #1 isn't the one "absorbing" another company. Not trying to be political, but i don't think its taxes that are hurting Miller BTW. I think in general their "new products" haven't met expectations, as many mid 20s somethings have gotten very attached to microbrews or the new glarus/lennies of the world. Brand loyalty is huge in beer, and i'd say 99% of miller's commericals are just downright stupid whereas the bud commercials of the early-mid 90s were funny and brilliant.... I site "the commish" ads, or the misguided current coors ads as "failure" in the marketing departments attempts to challenge bud for more market share
  7. Just make sure not to sign a lifetime contract until you're sure the team has World Series potential
  8. Remember this thread? Another scapegoat for our non-playoff season! Bud Selig! Jones was huge in the cubs overtaking us... if they traded him midseason, they might have completely floundered
  9. Fire Yost... bring back Davey Lopes....... *kidding* But Seriously... LaRussa is leaving STL... the guy breathes success everywhere he goes... Go get em Doug....... St Louis can have Ned Yost and endure 5 losing seasons.
  10. BAN VALPO BAN! (for that prediction of course) I have a natural hatred of the Cubs I have an exceptional hatred for both the NL East and the AL East I think Grady Sizemore is a great player and therefore will pull for the Indians... Plus... I was at all three Indians-Angels games at MP. It would be rather cool to be a part of the trivia question: Who is the only World Series Champion to play regular season home games at another MLB team's home ballpark during a World Series Winning campaign? Cleveland over NY (4) Angels over BOS (3) - read- Boston= NYM Arizona over sCrUBS (3) Colorado over Philly (4) - I love chase utley, but have the city of Philly Cleveland versus Colorado/Zona winner (its a toss up right now for me) Cleveland Indians, 2007 World Series Champs............ The "Cleveland Indians of Milwaukee" of course http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif 2008... is the year... Twins v Brewers
  11. 3-0 Pirates!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. BA over .300 and OBP over .400 (4 of the past 5 seasons)... where do I sign? Our new #2 hitter (hell, he'd even be a good #5)... Brewers have good luck with "doubles machines" Weeks Hart/Gross Braun Fielder Dome Jenkins/Hall Henry Blanco http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/pimp.gif Hardy
  13. Yeah, count me as one that doesn't care for Billy Hall either... I agree that we need a high OBP player.... While I'm not a Weeks fan, he has been on fire (OBP wise) since returning from AAA, and as long as he gets on at leadoff, I'm fine with him there. I agree with others that Braun should bat third, Prince fourth, and Hart fifth. Hardy is much better than an "8 hole" hitter, but he's on fire there, so I'd leave him either. I doubt we'll find a high OBP catcher, so that means we need to acquire a high OBP outfielder to bat 2nd in the offseason, have the other OF Hall/Jenkins/Gross hit 6th, and then have the catcher hit 7th. I wonder of packaging Billy Hall and Estrada together could net us anything.
  14. Ah.... well then that makes sense... I'm just imaging the outcry if some NFL team build a new stadium in LA and they decided to move the Rose Bowl to the new stadium.... I wonder what the "new corporate name" will be for Joe Robbie Stadium... Apple I-Phone Field ?
  15. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2984425 I wonder if this means they'll move the Orange Bowl BCS game to Joe Robbie Stadium? I personally think this is a very bad move, as tradition in college football means everything. I can't imagine the Badgers moving out of Camp Randall (not like thats an issue with all the renovations anyways). I know UM mentioned that it wasn't fair for the city to pay $200M to refurb a stadium for a Private University, though I figure that BCS game must bring tens of millions in revenue to the area annually. Plus, with their alumni base, it shouldn't be hard to raise the funds privately.
  16. Good Riddance to a Mediocre Athlete......... He had rare athletic ability no doubt, but was a mediocre quarterback Michael Vick never was nor will be 1% of the man or quarterback that D. McNabb was/is.
  17. Here's the thing though guys.... was Hall's breakout year in '06 an outlier, or is his mediocre '07 the outlier? 2006 Stats .270/.345/.553 .898 OPS 35 HR 85 RBI (Age 26) 2007 Stats .262/.323/.435 .758 OPS 11 HR 48 RBI (Age 27) ******************************************* Career Stats: .266/.322/.471 .793 OPS 78 HR 273 RBI I was excited as the next guy when we signed Billy for 4 years in the offseason... but six months later, I can't wait to get rid of that contract. Billy's #s are similar to his 06 season, and dead on with his career numbers, except for a MAJOR drop off in power? Not sure what has caused this, but a major power outage could be a result of struggling in a new position (CF), or..... I think getting Inman back for Hall would be a great deal for us and free up some salary. I'm not high on Tony Gwynn Jr, but if he can produce a .350-.360 OBP, he probably has more value to us that Hall who'd only give us 11 HR from that position anyways.
  18. Hey burnie, I had to do a double-take there http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/laugh.gif At first glance I thought you said that you were looking to sell a "toddler" before i went back and saw the rest of the sentence!
  19. Alright, if you are going to mention his wife... you must post a picture... i didn't even know Corey was married... http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/pimp.gif
  20. I'm a big fan of Santana, and GM Ryan as well, but I have to agree with Santana here. Hunter is having a career year, the ChiSox are in disarray, and despite Cleveland/Detroit being in great shape, Minnesota is usually a 2nd half team. With Joe, Justin, Cuddyer, Santana, Nathan, Hunter, and others, we (Twins) have a great core now, but that window is starting to close. I have to admit I'm pretty disappointed more moves weren't made. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  21. Bummer :x I figured we had a chance... but better that we don't overpay.... I think this is a blow similar to the 1992 season where David Cone went to the Blue Jays... well, not quite.... but close
  22. 1982 INDIANS vs BREWERS Ticket Stub Field Box $7.00 in 1982 (shortened link --1992)
  23. Sounds like a great deal! .... however... doesn't $8.00 for a ticket in 1982 seem a bit "high". I remember sitting in the Mezzanine (spelling) in around 91-92ish for around $14 (best seat in the house at that time) Maybe $8 was the price of an 'average ticket' in 1982? Sorry to nitpick, but that seemed kinda odd. Especially considering a bleacher ticket for the ALCS in 1982 was only $5...
  24. to throw a wrinkle in here. Since the Rangers are hot after starting pitching, why not include Bush? Dave Bush, Zach Jackson, and Tony Gwynn for Gagne and Laird ?? CV steps into the rotation for Bush, and we keep our current bullpen intact. Like others have said, getting as many as six top picks as compensation would be a huge haul.
  25. Hey All, I'm looking for property/summer homes north of Eau Claire... I tried to search using the Remax website, but its very slow/not user friendly. Any other "major" real-estate sites I should visit? No other big companies come to mind. I realized the "big" companies will be more expensive than smaller/local ones, but the local companies in my experience usually have a statewide/national affiliate anyways. Thanks for your help!
