  1. It's my mom's birthday to boot! (The first Milwaukee Braves game in County Stadium was also on her birthday.)
  2. I think a piece of one of my dental fillings just came loose. Naturally this would be on a Friday night. It's not painful (so far, knock on wood), but it's interfering with my bite and I wonder if I will have to eat soft food all weekend to not make matters worse.
  3. I'm mildly surprised that the Stadium Club is going away to accommodate the golf thing. So there will just not be a club level restaurant anymore? (I have no idea how often it's utilized, nor how much less it might have been utilized in 2021 due to the pandemic)
  4. The jsonline website itself, since it has to follow the Gannett format, is...lacking, to put it as even-handedly as I can. Following Curt on Twitter (@CyrtHogg), if you roll that way, would be a good way to link to individual articles, and maybe less frustrating than browsing through jsonline dot com.
  5. Hugs to you today, Kalle.
  6. Any CBB selection committee who doesn't consult Brewerfan on the regular is simply not worth its salt. A retired prof shares his basketball season tickets with us and we get the weeknight games, so this was our last game of the season and first in six weeks. It was the first time in several years (like years before the pandemic) that I deployed earplugs and I am glad I brought them. When it was loud, it was borderline overwhelming for me. There were also numerous times when it felt like the crowd was collectively holding its breath, it was so quiet. Nice time at the Kohl. I'm happy for these guys for defying and exceeding expectations and having fun along the way. Now, here's hoping it's not our last sporting event to attend until fall 2022.
  7. How about if I face east from Madison and give the peace symbol?
  8. I'm sorry it wasn't for a happier reason, but that's cool still. Happy Bob Day tomorrow!
  9. Many of us already know that Wisconsin is a big time political battleground state (for better or worse). A political ad that already started airing in Madison recently had some blurry jerky scenes that looked very much like my workplace. I found the ad online and IT IS MY WORKPLACE - right outside my office. I remember now that a film crew came in at my library's closing time to shoot some footage. That's not unusual because our building is a historic landmark. I left for home as they were setting up props for the footage. But now that I know it was for a political ad, I'm just all ew ew EWWW. (I will not disclose anything more about the ad, because forum rules, plus just the idea of our nice space being used for that grosses me out, regardless of affiliation.)
  10. Years ago, my SO went through a brief phase of watching Hoarders and I had to walk out of the room when he did because I'd want to go straighten up everything in my life. And I'm already pretty organized. It did not help me that at the time, Hoarders aired at 9:00 PM our time. Not relaxing before bed.
  11. https://www.mlb.com/news/gerald-williams-passes-away-after-cancer-battle Age 55. Got a writeup at MLB dot com probably because of his Yankees tenure. RIP.
  12. I'll admit, after literally two days of my first post-college job, I realized upon leaving that there was nothing I *had* to do at home. I adjusted pretty fast to not having to wonder what course readings or homework I was behind on. Of course, that night I spent time unpacking since I had just moved to Green Bay.
  13. In the first year of my post-college library career, I was fresh out of grad school, so the eldest of my student employees were just two years younger than I. I walked into the office once and two of them were talking and said, "She's back, let's ask her. Once you're out of college, does the stress go away?" Readers, I laughed. Then I told them that some stress does go away, but it's promptly replaced by other stresses.
  14. Of course, there's nothing funny about the passing of that celebrity. However, that the Weber grill people emailed out a "recipe of the week" of grilled meat loaf, then realized the unfortunate timing, then sent an email apology...is kind of funny. You shouldn't need a Twitter account to see the tweet.
  15. Keep it random, keep it pointless, keep it dumb.
  16. OR ELSE...it's on-brand for Betty to have had the last laugh, passing just as People magazine's cover story touting her 100th birthday came out. Allen Ludden, her husband, was a Wisconsin native and is buried in Mineral Point, a small town southwest of Madison. Can you imagine if Betty gets laid to rest with Allen? I don't know that the chances are great, but they are not yet zero.
  17. Have at it! It bugs me slightly that I didn't get this thread done Saturday morning.
  18. After decades of following this relatively niche sport (the hawing household has had season tickets to Wisconsin volleyball since 2000, which definitely included some lean years in the program), it's super cool to see a thread about it on Brewerfan! We've all missed things during the pandemic, and I imagine most of us have a 'thing' that bothered us more than any other. My 'thing' was missing Badger volleyball. I know, you'd think it would be the Brewers - and I'm not saying I didn't miss the Brewers in 2020 - but with the pandemic really kicking in around the time the Brewers would have started, I relatively quickly accepted that we were probably not going to be able to attend games (if there were any) that year. Meanwhile, I cannot get to work and back without going right by the Field House. During the spring and summer of 2020, the Field House got a big spruce-up, most noticeably including a replacement of the big windows. (Check this link for a before/after photo: https://www.grahamwindows.com/uw-field-house-12-10-20/) In the fall of 2020/winter of 2021, I'd ride or walk home at night, see the new windows and the light inside, and that's when I *really* missed volleyball. Before the 2020-2021 academic year, the 2020 fall season was postponed, and at that point I was just hoping the Rettke/Hilley et al group wouldn't have their college careers cut short. Instead, they got the bonus time and made the absolute most of it. It was totally worth the wait. This is college volleyball's World Series. (I was going to add that John Cook challenging that match point in set 5 was a total TLR move - Jimbo was not exaggerating when he compared Nebraska volleyball to the Cardinals - but I'm going to have to admit that Kelly Sheffield probably would have done the same, had the situation been reversed.)
  19. I'm annoyed that this year's clubhouse sale offered no authentics/gameworn section. From an observation shared on Twitter, it sounds like the exclusion was related to the lockout.
  20. I'm a 55 year old librarian and I'm wearing a Corbin Burnes t-shirt* to my professional job today because my team has a Cy Young winner for the first time since I was in high school. This is the shirt, which seems tailor made to my interests: https://rotowear.com/products/mr-burnes-is-excellent-shirt *Also a cardigan, because it's November and I'm a librarian.
  21. Dean Stockwell (most recently remembered as Al on Quantum Leap). https://www.npr.org/2021/11/09/1053851755/blue-velvet-and-quantum-leap-actor-dean-stockwell-has-died-at-age-85
  22. For a few years, I've wondered whether this time of year should still be called "standard" time when it now encompasses less than half of the year.
  23. I believe that's what we'll get in Levering. The only reason I'm even mildly disappointed in this change in his radio/TV ratio is because I so enjoy listening to him (paired with either Lane or Bob) on the radio. But this is vastly preferable to him leaving for another market.
  24. For those who prefer to avoid twitter.com:
