  1. Apologies in advance, but what?Maybe "intentionally" walk? Sorry, ilovebeer, just trying to clarify.
  2. which, sadly, we can also say about Dave Bush. Oh wait, now it's 0-1 on Jay. My bad. Edit: The chat room is open, if you're game. I will be away from the chat shortly to have some supper, but don't let that deter you.
  3. When Augie looks more camera-ready than you, you can figure there's a problem. Maybe Marney was called in on short notice.
  4. At the risk of sounding overly shallow...is Marney Gellner even wearing makeup? (I say this as a non-makeup-wearer myself, but then again I don't work in front of TV cameras.)
  5. That's exciting! Of course, your son is a Brewer magnet already, so even if there are no photos, I won't be at all surprised to hear good player-interaction stories.
  6. Well, the Pirates and the Mets combined to help. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif If we had undeniable proof that Suppan starting that NLDS Game 4 was 100% Sveum's decision, I'd be more inclined to agree with you.
  7. Dang, you guys, we could practically start up a bf.net diabetes support group. Indeed, stalton and I have already compared "friendly" food ideas in a few in-game chats. However, let's not do it in the draft forum. Back to (closer to) topic. The compensatory pick will be at least as much a crapshoot as Covey's signing would have been; and Diskono has a point that this doesn't stop Covey from ever signing with Milwaukee. That doesn't make tonight's turn of events less disappointing, though, and it's tempting to feel like we've experienced enough disappointment in 2010 already.
  8. It's your prerogative to opt for the money for yourself, but calling the Coveys idiotic is harsh and unnecessary.
  9. I can see where Dylan's coming from. When my S.O. was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last year, several weeks passed before our dual freak-out began to subside, and our household was not mulling over a long-term, athletics-based and travel-heavy commitment. I certainly would not have wanted to make decisions as major as a career-launcher at that time if I could possibly help it. The S.O. was told to expect about a six month adjustment period, and that's about how it went. He's currently managing it with diet and exercise (after about six months of prescription meds), but I still knock on wood allllll the time. None of us knows the extent of Dylan's diabetes (it affects each patient differently), but it need not automatically preclude a successful athletic career for him. Of course, this is stunningly bad timing for the Brewers. It would be nice if the Coveys eventually remembered the Brewers' efforts once he's got this under control, but there's no guarantee of that. Why can't we have nice things?
  10. Two women who I know are traveling together (because they spent the morning at my library) were in line in front of me at the Union grill at lunch today. Here is the conversation that unfolded: Woman 1: Can I get a hamburger? Grill employee (gesturing to rack of prepared burgers): They're right here. Woman 2: Do you have hamburgers?
  11. A tie score late in a game is just about always going to favor the home team, no matter who is pitching. We heard the 9th inning from the car and frankly, I thought it would be Grampa Todd with the game-ending heroics...until it came down to Tulowitzki. We also managed to hear Manny's error in the 3rd, but comparing it to the box score, I'm not seeing how each of the Rockies' first three runs were unearned. I assume Manny's error made runs 2 and 3 possible, but once it was tied Cory mentioned that all of the Rockie runs were unearned. Also - was there any explanation today of why Cory P was out of Saturday's broadcast? Bob did all the innings that night (at least once I had the radio on) and mentioned that Cory was out of the hospital, had antibiotics and would be back on Sunday. I couldn't tell how much of that was Ueckeresque exaggeration.
  12. I think you are limited to six characters...but I'll bet MR2999 stands a good chance of being available.
  13. Nice debut for Mike McNewGuy (as we dubbed him in the chat).
  14. The nonpersonalized retro plates all end in AB, and the nonpersonalized "M" plates in AC. I don't know why they used those codes.
  15. Yeah. Spilborghs' history as a Madison Mallard doesn't seem to have left him with any fondness for Wisconsin. Edit: Come talk about the game in the chat room if you wish.
  16. Today in Madison we saw a retro-logo plate which read TARHLS. Why spend the coin on a Brewers personalized plate to promote UNC?
  17. I know it's not the same situation, and compared to many posters here I've been relatively accepting of Macha. But the 8th inning tonight leaves me feeling much like I felt after that first game of the doubleheader with the Phillies in 2008 when Ned left us all scratching our heads, bashing in keyboards, etc. over his use of Shouse.
  18. Yesterday's game was easy to overlook since it wasn't televised. Edit: The chat room counter isn't showing it yet, but the room is occupied, with plenty of room for others.
  19. I am open to coining a general nickname for any Brewers backup outfielder...but I think not Diego.
  20. As of 6:00 PM CDT on August 13, the Big Ten Network is showing a classic Wisconsin-Minnesota basketball game - their exciting win at the Field House in 1990 (when I was a student!). I'm enjoying the chance to revisit Tim Locum's sweet 3-pointers and sweeter mullet...not to mention Kurt Portmann (Pride of Sheboygan), Danny Jones and a pre-motion-W Field House.
  21. Ohhh, now the Brewers have no Diegos, "real" or incorrectly guessed. Well, thanks for playing, Jody. We'll always have the cycle.
  22. This thread has had a nice hiatus...but not anymore. There's a tornado warning for east central Dane County, southwestern Dodge and northeastern Jefferson. The radar makes it look like a small storm began to grow and intensify just after passing through Madison. It's headed right along the I-94 corridor, enough to make me wonder if the baseball gods think we have a Miller Park trip to make tonight.
  23. That lil' Ben implosion game was definitely vs. the Twins. We were driving from Kenosha to Madison and listened in mild horror/moderate baseball horror.
