  1. I was going to say, epic slip of the keyboard there. And if you did that on purpose, you apologize to Chris Dickerson right now, young man!
  2. I know we sold our tickets to this game because it's the first week of classes and I knew even six months ago I would be crazy busy at work...but I can't believe we sold our tickets to this game. If I find out the people we sold to left early, I will kick them both in the shins. Both shins! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif Edit: For a silver lining, imagine if this had been a WMLW broadcast. Phew!
  3. I'm not sure what value there is to raining on tonight's parade. Congratulations to Trevor for sticking with it and being a standup guy. Seeing his family join him on the field was heartwarming.
  4. I'm a little surprised at how many times Rock said "You never see that call made" when it resembles the one made in NLDS game 3 in 2008. I know Rock was watching that game. Sorry about the IGT - I don't know where pretendastronaut is tonight. I'll whip up lineups, at least. http://blog.nj.com/mets_main/2009/04/large_alex-cora423.jpg Kyle Lohse vs. http://nimg.sulekha.com/sports/original700/chris-narveson-2009-9-24-0-42-22.jpg Chris Narveson CLASSIES Lopez 3B Jay RF Pujols 1B Holliday LF Molina C Rasmus CF Feliz 3B Greene SS Lohse RHP BREWERS Weeks 2B Hart RFBraun LFFielder 1BMcGehee 3BDickerson CFLucroy CCounsell SSNarveson LHP
  5. Since we moved into our current house five years ago, I have been on the lookout for better-looking house numbers that didn't cost an arm and a leg. We finally found some and now the front of our house looks several percentage points nicer - not to mention the numbers are much more readily visible than the old ones.
  6. The Brewers have had a deal this season where at certain exits after a Brewers win, coupons for free fries at McDonald's are given out. The coupon is valid at participating southeast Wisconsin McDonald's locations, though, so it's only helpful for locals. Here's the 2010 promotion schedule (scroll down for prior months). By my reckoning, here are the flat-out giveaways that are not bobbleheads: 2010 Magnet schedule 1970s pennant (kids only) Police baseball card set (kids only) Luggage tag Drawstring backpack 1980s pennant (kids only) Prince Fielder growth chart Grill Master apron Ryan Braun luggage tag I don't know if the promotion/giveaway schedules of prior seasons are available online (for the sake of comparison). I've got them in print form, but I'd have to look them up later. If I get that chance I'll post again. Everything else does appear to be a coupon or something that requires a purchase elsewhere. Some are for Milwaukee area businesses, which makes them extra useless for those of us who travel from outstate. I'm no marketing expert, but maybe the Brewers are better compensated for coupon deals than for straight giveaway items? Especially in "these troubled times"? Friday's coupon for $300 off a home generator is a particular head-scratcher. I wonder how much Generac expects sales to climb in response to that. Maybe the MP crew should stage a blackout during that game to make fans believe that they really need a home generator. (If this happens, we'll know someone in the organization is reading bf.net.) The one giveaway I had looked forward to this year was a Chorizo keychain. I have the other four, plus a spare Hot Dog all ready to trade for a Chorizo in case it was a game we couldn't attend. Seriously, Chevy? You can still give away a vehicle on Fan Appreciation Night but can't get behind 25000 chintzy but sausage-shaped keychains? For crying out loud, there's not even a cap giveaway! I wonder if there was a focus group who said, "We have enough SGA caps." Edit: d'oh, I see in the time it took me to compose this masterful post, several of you responded with more succinct explanations. Well, my generator and keychain comments still stand.
  7. Meanwhile, Corey adds some interest to the bottom of the ninth. Nice, if fleeting.
  8. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif And he thinks others have an attitude problem. Gamel sighting in the on-deck circle.
  9. Exactly, but we all know by now how Macha handles young players. It's too bad. I hope to God they fire him.At least he gave Jeffress an appearance to begin with. And every time the topic of a post-2010 Macha comes up, I ask myself "if I'm Ken Macha, why would I want to return?"
  10. I just don't see Todd Coffey being invited back in 2011. /sigh/
  11. I didn't know Circuit City still existed until I read that post. Overnight I dreamed that I was watching a Brewers game where Casey gave Milwaukee a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the eighth, then Trevor came in for the 9th and save 600. I didn't see the end of the game, but I did see "600" on the banner later in the dream. So maybe it all works out for Hoffman. Incidentally, the game was vs. the Cubs and was played in daylight.
  12. Hey, Corey! Now if Yo can just make the lead hold up. Come on, there are too many bf.netters at today's game to let them down!
  13. Jake Westbrook now has four MLB hits, and two came in Miller Park vs. the Brewers. The first one was during a game with Cleveland in 2006.
  14. I never thought I'd say so, but I feel a bit of fan affection for Colby Rasmus now, just because he's on Pujols' bad side.
  15. No kidding. Maybe there was only one employee available during this holiday weekend...which still doesn't make sense, if a holiday weekend coincides with a homestand. If it really is the case that the roof can't move without one specific employee being present...I doubt that will be the case much longer after today. I would consider an elaborate celebration vs. the Cardinals (if the situation warrants, which is probably a big enough if) to be crazy awesome, despite my personality being the polar opposite of "in your face."
  16. Haudricourt reported around 11:30 AM that the morning storm in Milwaukee soaked the field because the roof was open: I've got to admit, I join TH in being surprised that only one guy can close the roof, if that in fact is the case. Well, go Brewers. I doubt it's possible to top the overall entertainment/enjoyment value of one year ago today, but find a way to make it fun.
  17. Hm. Here's hoping Axford has enough left in the tank.
  18. Randy Wolf recorded his 1500th career strikeout today. Too bad it couldn't have come earlier in the season, but nice for him.
  19. Hey, those of you spending part of your holiday weekend on bf.net...come chat with us.
  20. So - the brewers.com headline writers can simply reuse the headline from last night's recap: "Crew's outfield mistake costly vs. Phils."
  21. But he didn't perform. Back to the bench with you. I debated whether to put that in blue.
  22. Just got home. Thanks to the wi-fi access at the Field House I was able to follow up to the point where Loe had the bases loe-ded with 0 outs in the 7th. I'm actually mildly surprised the Phillies "only" got two. So, Lidge has been bested before...hawing said hopefully.
  23. I got home just in time to see Macha state in the post-game show that Cappy's groin was tightening up on him. He spoke as if that explained the early-ish exit, though I don't know that I would have expected more than 80 pitches out of him anyway.
  24. Here is a USA Today link that supports pretendastronaut's statement that two suspensions potentially apply: the original 7-gamer (which has been appealed by Nyjer) for throwing a ball into the stands and hitting a fan, and the new 8-gamer for the more recent on-field incidents. I agree that some of the on-field incidents are relatively arguable, re: whether they are "just part of baseball" or worthy of discipline. The frequency of incidents - and, for me, especially the throwing a ball at a fan - make the whole enchilada hard to write off.
  25. I was thinking William Schallert, but 1992casey and I are probably on the same track here anyway. http://www.cinefania.com/pics/personas/9/9162.jpg Another bug: Now that school is back in session, our bus is full of high school students for the first few stops of our ride to work. It's not a problem to stand for a few stops, but it bugs me when they crowd the bus so much that we can only stand by the exit, then get impatient when we're blocking the exit when they want to leave. I think they'll figure it out eventually...before June, I hope.
