  1. Looks that way, doesn't it? Rock and Craig are certainly tired of it. And that guy earlier who committed fan interference looked like a tool.
  2. Karstens hit Ryan with a pitch in April 2009. Ryan assumed it was intentional and spoke his mind about it. There was talk at the time that the Pirates were still incensed that Ryan hit that grand slam off PIT in September 2008 and had the audacity to be happy about it. I thought back to the 2009 incident last night as GoGo was HBP, and wondered why they'd plunk him, as he wasn't even in the organization in 2008. Anyway, go Brewers. Isn't their record OK in Cerveceros games?
  3. Announced attendance last night (July 9) was 27,767. My attendance records indicate that it was the smallest (announced) Friday crowd since September 22, 2006 - when the Brewers drew 21,796 vs. San Francisco. Total attendance for the 2006 season was 2,335,643.
  4. Does anyone know the song played before the top of the first inning? (while defensive highlights are shown)
  5. After Wednesday night, this game was no small relief for me. I arrived with such meager goals as "no runs allowed in the first 10 minutes of the game" (Accomplished!) and maybe even no errors (Also accomplished!). Sharpie wasn't sharp, but neither did he pull a "July 7 Narveson," so I'll accept him for the placeholder he is in the rotation. I'll have to check to see how long it's been since a Friday night crowd (especially in the heart of summer) drew only 27K, but the fans in our section who didn't cut out in like the 5th inning were really into the game. The junior announcer and family sits two rows in front of our loge seats, and the two kids in that family were just living and dying with every pitch late in the game. There were lots of rally caps in our area. A late foul ball (I've forgotten who hit it) almost took out Robb Edwards and whoever was sitting on Robb's left. It did hit some black piece of plastic; I'd guess a corded phone handset, if they have stodgy corded phones at MP anymore. The Geoff Jenkins thing was nice enough. He was well received by the fans and his ceremonial pitch was OK if not Cirilloesque. On his way off the field he walked toward the visitors' clubhouse; I said to the S.O., "he's going to say hi to the Doorman," and they did indeed exchange a high five. thablingster will be happy to hear that I was thinking and in fact shouting "Epic Beard!" when Kottaras got his well placed triple. It's fortunate that GoGo went-went as quickly as he did to make the triple pay off. I said to Ryan in the 10th, "Stick it to the Pirates again"; and was thinking to myself, "no 11th! That's Riske warming up." So it is for multiple reasons that I'm glad the Brewers came through, and Ryan in particular.
  6. If you see a geek in a 2006 Doug Davis jersey tonight, it's very likely to be me. Guys, all I ask is a measure of on-field competence. Just competence.
  7. I refuse to hope for failure, and I am not a sap.
  8. I just finally saw the letter before visiting this thread. I dislike Comic Sans in most applications and this is yet another, so I'm glad you poked at that. Plus it's got quite a psycho "bad breakup" vibe going. So...Angry Dan Gilbert. Imagine if he'd been the Brewers' owner when CC bolted for the Yankees (albeit without prime-time spectacle).
  9. I think it happens Monday morning. Not that I am a Macha guy, but what would the point me in firing him this season now? Were done and out of it. Might as well finish out the season and start fresh in 2011. His contract was only good through this season anyway.Elsewhere in the forums (and I don't remember where, and am not going to look right this minute) was someone's rationale that while making a managerial change during the 2010 season is highly unlikely to salvage the season, it may show which, if any, players respond with improvement to that change. If they all improve, then you can feel more confident that the field manager made a difference. If not, then you have a better idea of what parts of the roster need change the most in the 2010-2011 offseason. Honestly, I think if I were Ken Macha, I might welcome the sweet release from this team, or at least find a silver lining in it. As for this game and series...sweet caroline, this reminds me of that four game Nationals series in 2009, which was the emotional low point of the year for me. And that one was "only" three losses. Truly, these are the times that try fans' souls. Edit: I found the post...courtesy of LouisEly. I did some paraphrasing above.
  10. For once, I'm not sure I'm disappointed that meetings and training will prevent me from monitoring this game live. Stop the madness! For all that is good and holy!
  11. The hawing party is now 7-7 at Miller Park, 8-9 on the 2010 season. However, in terms of horrendousness, we were at the 15-2 loss (all of it), which I think is good for some kind of perverse extra credit. Seriously, when a game heads immediately south and stays there, like last night's did, it'd be nice if the Brewers would hand a little something out to fans who stay to the end. Voucher for a future game (a do-over of sorts?) or $5 in future concessions...stuff like that. Just something small that says, "yep, this sucked, but we appreciate your staying to the end." The trick would be quantifying what makes a game "that bad." Last night's would have been a no-brainer for "that bad," though.
  12. I got home from Wednesday's dreadful game to find like 10 Facebook posts from the Brewers about this new scoreboard. I'm not going to lie, I wasn't really in the mood to read about that after 3 hours and 16 minutes of suck (which as you know started within about 30 seconds of the second pitch). If the new scoreboard doesn't have those green and red globs that make it look like Casey McGehee is crying, or like Craig Counsell has one of those dots on his forehead like you see on Indian women...then fine, go ahead. But look - by sometime in 2011, Yovani appears to be back in the rotation. Phew! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif More seriously, though, this quote from the Journal Sentinel link posted by AJAY is pretty impressive: Dang.
  13. You know, we've attended our share of games where the Brewers' chances looked frankly bleak "on paper," yet we've been pleasantly surprised in the end. Dave Bush vs. Cole Hamels; Seth McClung vs. Randy Johnson (albeit late-career Randy Johnson); even Chris Narveson vs. the Rangers a few weeks ago. We also experienced in person Shawn Green's 4-homer day vs. Milwaukee in 2002. This game was a lot more like that day. Jebus. I mean, really. At least it didn't rain on us as much as I anticipated, it wasn't the muggiest three hours I've ever spent in MP, and they opened the roof mid-game, which at least made things more physically comfortable. We also got to see a friend who moved out of state last year (around the time the Brewers' 2009 house of cards began to collapse - so I'm still blaming him for the resulting suck). 2008 made up for a lot of the faithful support and hoping against hope, but I daresay the Brewers have started a new tab since, and they added to their total owed us tonight. No foul ball. And my rock bottom expectations included "avoid being perfect gamed" (achieved relatively early!), "avoid being no-hit", "avoid the shutout", and no errors, just for one game. 3 out of 4! Finally...the Brewers wished Cory Provus a happy birthday. On the videoboard, of course...the on-field message appeared to be something else.
  14. Dear Brewers: We're driving through yet more rain to see you in person tonight. Please exceed my expectations. They really aren't that high. Thanks! hawing
  15. I think Baldkin's on to something. Remember when Ben Sheets tore his lat muscle in 2005? He was wearing a Braves throwback uniform.
  16. A visitor to my library just got a cell phone call. Her ringtone is Bette Midler singing, "Did you ever knooooow that you're my heeeeeeeerrro..." Ick!
  17. They got to meet with Robin. I believe a few of our members are among that group.
  18. I read that wrong on Gameday earlier too. I wonder if Gameday had it wrong at first. "Nah, it couldn't be just 1 ER out of 5....could it?" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  19. I'd like to know whether this is a matter of Yo feeling significantly worse than he did on Monday, or if it's more of a roster-management transaction. I see no value to having the Brewers play with only 24 guys available until Friday, even if 12 of them are pitchers. The brewers.com report states that Dr. Raasch "recommended further tests later this week." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/indifferent.gif So I don't feel like this situation is out of the woods yet at all. Edit: and Witrado's blog entry includes the following: Yeah...not a comfort.
  20. Randy: Remember that tweak of your mechanics that had you pitching so well last time out? Don't forget to do it again. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  21. Back in the day, I used to date a guy whose parents' motto for shopping was "buy cheap and abuse." As much as I like our new MacBook, we're keeping it mainly at home. If I were traveling extensively, I'd want to buy cheaper so I wouldn't be worried about sinking $$$$ again if it were lost or stolen or dropped. So, I'm not saying your parents are going to abuse a laptop, but I'd employ this family's 1980s mantra if I were you. And since that puts you in Windows territory, make it as secure as possible. The most likely thing you'll be contacted about (tech support wise) is malware type problems. Actually, if you have an Asus and love it, get them one too. Then when they ask you for tech support, you don't have to worry about menus being different or anything.
  22. We have a 20-pack in 217 (though we weren't at Monday's game) and have had our share of chances at foul balls (with one success). That press box area is a pretty sweet location, so I'm glad you at least had a good experience seat-wise.
  23. And in a playoff race, why would you need all 25 of your guys available?
